Mama Khan had a similar experience with the mother of her first husband.  (She's still friendly toward her, for some, unfathomable reason).  Except, my grandmother (well, she's not REALLY my grandmother, but...) took a step farther by manipulating Mama Khan out of her and her then-husband's house as the two were divorcing, leaving her AND my older brother virtually out on the street.  (Again, why they have remain in contact all these years is a total mystery to me).

????????????????????????

And now, Bernard in repose:

But the Times, while necessary, is not our friend, and this long thread from Oliver Willis on Maggie Haberman's latest Hope Hicks puff piece explains why:

I was wondering if someone is going to post this. I don't really understand why it's taken so many to catch onto Maggie Haberman. While the paper still does great local coverage, their political beat is garbage and has been for years. It's hard to match the garbage the Times put out during the Iraq war and how they lead the propaganda arm of the White House, but this is worse IMO. To use your stature in the country to spread this BS is a disgrace.

I agree.  I stopped reading anything that she's written some time ago.  I guess I just assumed others have done the same.

I still maintain that the best part of the NYTimes remains their Metro NYC section.  Their Arts section can still be good as well, if you skip most of the reviews.

Hate to risk ruining what's left of everyone's holiday weekend but what I'm seeing is that Trump's lies don't take time off, even if we do.  I thought this piece was interesting, especially given that it's Memorial Day.

Also, remember when we were all talking about the Israeli elections, not too long ago?

@DramatistDreamer That story about the Israeli elections is really something. I'm in shock to be honest. I've been trying to sort out what happened in Europe yesterday.  It seems the left populist movement gained ground in both France and Germany. 3 Brexit party MP's elected in the UK(and UKIP failing thank goodness). Greece throwing out their populist leader, Macron cozying up to the left wing socialists in Spain. It's topsy turvy. Italy is really no surprise to me. They always go the crazy route.

That's for damn sure. Truly, I don't think I've ever known (or known of) a person who lies as much as he does.  My mind automatically discards everything he says now, I don't even consciously think about it.  I just see him talking and put his statements in the figurative trash basket.

Mueller basically came out, resigned, refused to exonerate Trump and pointedly put the onus to act on Congress.

I don't believe there is a choice anymore. Maybe not next week, but before the election is over.

Sadly, I agree.  Congress must act.  If it doesn't, then it will look complicit.

I just wish I could shake the feeling that seeking impeachment will ultimately deliver the Democrats' fate into the GOP's hands.

People were not on the side of the Nixon impeachment when inquiries started. Public hearings covered on television have power.  Enough at this point who knows.

At this point I agree with Sewer. And American Exceptionalism is a joke. We are a nation of C students who want the cliff notes version or someone to spoon feed us the answers.

    • Mid 1979 to mid 1981 was A+ quality for the show.   I even found things to like about the show in the final year or so when the quality had somewhat declined.
    • From what I heard, the actress playing Leslie opted to leave so instead of recasting again.. they killed her off.   Holly brought it on herself by lying and pretending Christina was Ed's child.  Although I do think that Rita's actions with withholding that message from Ed weighed upon her.   Even though she won Ed in 1976, she realized over time that she never truly had him. There was no Rita/Tim/Evie triangle.  Tim and Evie dated after Rita broke up with him (which happened before Evie and her mother came to Springfield).  Ironically Tim did to Evie what Rita previously did to him... leading someone on that you're not interested in.
    • I mean, he is but he's also still an ásshole.
    • The most beautiful thing about getting into a new soap opera is getting to know the characters yourself and figuring everything out slowly. And EON is one of the easiest when it comes to that. Pretty soon you are so well oriented in who is who and what are their motivations. I only struggled with the episodes before Mansion of the damned started.  Then after that it's pretty smooth sailing.
    • I don't hate Hayley but she would absolutely cry about falling for Jacob.
    • @BroderickThank you for the reply. Such acting that they Sharon Gabet and the actor playing Draper still played their relationship after it's over. I picked up on it even though I had no idea about their history. That's such good acting/continuity.  Raven has just moved to London and a custody battle is now brewing for Jamey.
    • Ha-ha-ha, I thought it was Marland who turned Mike into a jerk, but apparently not. I get that they probably felt the Mike/Leslie story had run its course, but they should have at least let them have a kid. Especially since they were soon ensnaring him in a storyline with a woman who couldn't have children (Elizabeth). Of course, no one could have predicted there would be a dearth of Bauers a few years later. I remember this! I remember Holly sitting by the phone, desperate for Ed to call so they could stop the divorce. I forgot it was Rita who never gave him the message. What a bitch.

But, yeah, this is the Rita I remember at the beginning: very determined to bag Ed. I contend that Holly never, ever got over it, never stopped regretting that the divorce went through. I wish at some point over the years they had let Holly and Ed reunite for more than a brief affair. It feels like a thread that was left hanging. There she is! I was beginning to think I had dreamed up the Rita/Tim/Evie triangle.
    • In the interview posted on knotslanding.net, William Devane described the Greg/Paige storyline as "juvenile".  From that interview I also got the impression that William Devane was on his way out near the end so he wouldn't have returned if there was a season 15.
    • Just started this show. I’m on episode 3. I’m starting to make the connections and understand the family tree better. Still will take time to fully understand everything but it’s exciting. So glad we have a new soap opera in 2025! Excited to join the discussion once I’m caught up.
