Thanks @Huntress for listing all the different events in such detailed form. I would have no idea what most of this meant otherwise. That last clip with the cult is genuinely shocking. How was this story received? Did any of the main characters die?

 

What do you think of UU's efforts? I wonder if this is really bringing any old viewers back. Most of the time, when they are gone, they stay gone.

Really enjoying the show at the moment. 

I'm a couple of weeks behind, but catching up fast as there's so much to make me want to keep watching. 

 

I've enjoyed the Nihat storyline,  the Laura/Felix/Nazan storyline is going along nicely,  and now the Katrin/Tobias/Melanie storyline is getting really good too!  The Toni storyline is a little too complicated for me to completely understand what's going on, but seems to be interesting.  

 

The other storylines are providing good comedy relief / entertainment as well - enjoying Maren/Mickey and the Jon/Philip/Emily storyline being much lighter at the moment is really rewarding after everything their relationships have been through. 

 

Only Tuner really seems to be on the periphery of the show with not much to do. At least Moritz gets in some workplace or family scenes.

Starting September 6th, AWZ celebrates 15 years on the air with a "special anniversary week". In typical AWZ fashion, there's going to be huge drama involving stolen money, blackmail and a hostage situation. Two familiar faces will return, and reportedly, a thrilling love story will keep viewers on the edge of their seats (well, we'll see about that).

The two returnees are most likely Francisco Medina as Maximilian von Altenburg and Amrei Haardt as Nathalie Reichenbach von Altenburg, who departed the show last fall and already returned for several guest appearances in June. (I mean, why else would they be featured on the new promotional pics?)

In addition, three cast members are leaving the show: Original cast member Julia Augustin, who has played Dr. Vanessa Steinkamp since the 1st episode, and her on-screen husband Lars Korten, who joined the soap in February 2015 as Christoph Lukowski, are departing in early September. Augustin has been on contract from 2006 to 2009, 2010 to 2012, and since 2014. In 2013, she made a few guest appearances. Also, Cheyenne Pahde is taking a leave of absence, reportedly for a year. Pahde joined AWZ in July 2016 as Marie Schmidt, taking over from Judith Neumann who played the part from 2015 to 2016.

After AWZ's anniversary week, RTL promises more drama on UU: An extraordinary double wedding, a strange encounter in the desert, and a cruel murder will play a huge part.

On GZSZ, Thaddäus Meilinger (Felix Lehmann) is exiting the soap this fall after being on contract for 5 consecutive years. According to a press release, the actor "needs a break to focus on other projects". He is set to return sometime in the future, but who knows ...

Definitely Vanessa on AWZ. She's basically the only sane and clever character on that show, and she is needed as a counterpart for her mother Simone and her sister Jenny. However, she and Christoph have barely had an interesting storyline in ages. Last year, Vanessa's fling with Yannik was universally hated by the fans.

Right now, the only characters that are keeping AWZ afloat these days are Justus and Chiara. Matthias Brüggenolte is such a great actor and it's well deserved that he's involved in so many storylines. (Of course it also helps that he's very attractive

The actor Niklas Osterloh is taking an extended break since he has received a main role in a new crime series on ZDF which will debut in early 2022. Good for him, because so far, he has been utterly wasted on GZSZ. I mean, he's been on the show for 5 years, but he hasn't had any major storyline except that one time when that crazy author posed as his long-lost sister – and that was 4 years ago. Paul's basically just Emily's good conscience. Osterloh may not be the strongest actor but he has good chemistry with almost everyone.

As for Moritz, I'm glad they're doing this kind of story, but I still don't think that the character is working at all. Also, they're basically using this story to redeem Laura – whose faked pregnancy was just exposed – because she will be supporting her brother so dearly. Tuner will also be involved, and I'm not sure if they're aiming for a Laura/Tuner or even a Moritz/Tuner pairing. IMO, both would make awful couples.

Yeah,  Paul has been wasted on the show I agree.  Thanks for the info!

I really enjoyed the Tobias/Katrin storyline and the Laura/Nazan/Felix one, and thought they're the best storylines that GZSZ have done for a long while.  However, now both of them have finished,  they don't seem to have anything particularly lined up to take over and be the next big storyline.  The Felix storyline is awful (and makes me just worry about Lilly, who's had so many awful things happen I don't think I can cope!), and there's nothing else interesting going on at all. 

I agree, a Laura / Tuner pairing would be crazy, but a Moritz / Tuner pairing would be just awful! I really hope they don't go down that route.
