The only noteworthy thing about the Jessica Walter episode was that this helped jump start Diana's obsession with NYC and fashion designing..reasons provided when she moves there at the start of season 6.

Looking at the Paige character...wouldn't it have made more sense if Annie Fairgate have been on instead of Paige?  Other then Paige's brief fling with Michael..every other story given to Paige could have been given to Annie instead.

Season 4 still really holds up (and yes, Ciji is still singing). They're coming up on "Abby's Choice" in a bit. It's very comforting to pop in and out on the show live.

It's gonna suck to only get in a few S7 eps on Sunday as I have no intention of bingeing all night (though it's happened before with Knots!). I hope on demand happens fast.

I have been enjoying watching when I can, I almost wish I could call in sick when we hit season 5.

The episode I watched this morning was such an interesting hybrid- the one with Diana’s kidney transplant. It felt like the original seasons but was clearly also in the transition period the show fully dives into with season 5 with intrigue stories, and Greg’s arrival.

I don’t think they would make a good swap at all. Paige had the monied background and Anne being a thorn in Karen’s side works better with a husband still alive. I do not see Annie as a good fit at Summer at all. Lotus Point I could see though.

I do think Annie would have made a great foil to Paige though, something she really lacked in her age range.

Such a maximum impact character. Cast Ciji wrong and it doesn’t really work. But she had chemistry with everyone and it helped set up things beautifully. When watching again I noticed how much she fits better than Ginger or Kenny ever did. Totally get why they brought her back as Cathy.

Season 4 retained the original 'Scenes of the Marriage' concept/atmosphere mixed with the soapy attributes it became known for later on.

Kenny/Ginger were actually used to great effect with Kenny/Gary partnering up to help Cijii.. with Ginger feeling neglected in work and life by Kenny.  Abby/Gary made a great power couple.

Richard/Laura's marital issues come to a head when another venture by Richard fails as Laura continues to be supportive yet thriving in her role in real estate.  Mixed in with the pseudo triangle with Cijii when Laura/Cijii become emotionally close with Richard left out again.

Val finally having enough of being strung along by Gary in the first half season 4 was awesome... and I kind of understood her backside a bit when it came to Gary.

Karen finally getting closure in regards to Sid, plus her new relationship/marriage to Mac is a new lease on life for the character.. and we start to see her character start to morph into the know it all without a sense of humor that we become accustomed to in later seasons.

@titan1978 I think Annie could have come back.. but the show thought Diana and later Paige filled the role of the wayward rebellious daughter role.  Annie at Lotus Point would have been interesting.

Lastly, seeing season 1 through 3.. it is so apparent that Val and Gary were not going to make it as a couple.  Gary was too hot and cold.. while Val was too clingy... and Gary wanted more while Val just wanted a typical suburban life.

I often think Gary loved both Abby and Val because of the functions that both gave to him.  Abby encouraged him to not wallow in his self-doubt while Val was supportive of him whenever he failed.

    • The timing is strange, though. How far in advance would they normally be on location? The Achille Lauro hijacking was on October 7, 1985. Nancy had arrived in Egypt in the storyline by October 18. But the character of Hawk, Chris' Native American friend from Arizona, had already appeared onscreen by September and brought a letter telling Chris to be in Egypt by October 25th.  Why did they already have the link to Arizona before the reason to cancel the shoot in Egypt?  The dust and the jar it came in were from Egypt though. Nancy bought it there and sent it to Mac as a gift before she came back to the states and followed Chris to Arizona.
    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.
