Happy anniversary. Maybe I'll get back to my slight backlog this weekend, I've been so busy with other stuff IRL and now there's a bit of a GH historical binge for Jackie Z. I'm still not through with the very end of Season 6, and eps are hard to come by at present.

I didn't hate Ben, but I did think he deserved better than to be Val's perennial second choice.  And the less I say about his ridiculous exit story with the horrible Jean Hackney, the better.

I thought Doug Sheehan had such an easy chemistry with the rest of the cast.  It was really a shame that they couldn't have held onto him.

Val/Gary/Ben was a well-crafted triangle with conflict between two very different types of love. Val's love for Gary was that of a young girl's first love that was supposed to last forever but it didn't. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life.

Whatever happened to Doug Sheehan?

From a few primetime guest spots to contract and popularity on GH, leading to KL and then starring on a sitcom (Day by Day) it seemed that another series was on the cards or some prominent appearances in TV movies or mini series and perhaps a return to soaps when things cooled off but he just seemed to vanish.

Maybe his choice?

No, I remember Sam Behrens as Gregory on SUNSET BEACH.  But I think (although I can't be sure) that Douglas Sheehan did a one-or-two-day role on PASSIONS.

I think Ben was a great addition to the show, and I missed him when he is gone.  But I prefer Gary with Abby, and Val with Ben. As much as I love the push/pull of Gary and Val, I am okay with them not being together.

Douglas Sheehan was great with Joan Van Ark, but Val could be so damn exhausting, lol.  JVA blamed the Lechowicks for turning Val into the "village idiot," but I think the character assassination, for lack of a better term, had happened long before.

That makes sense, @Soaplovers.  I think the producers should have addressed that issue, too.  Val had been through every parent's worst nightmare.  Getting the twins back seemed to put a nice bow on everything, but it really shouldn't have.  We should've seen Val struggling even after getting Betsy and Bobby back.  Val should've been paranoid about losing them again to the point where she refuses to leave the house without them or have them sleep in another bedroom.  And Ben should've been beside himself (again) over how to handle the situation.

Of course, being the cruel bastard that I am, I would've had Ben convince Val to leave the twins at home with Lilimae or one of Karen's sons for an evening out with Mack and Karen, only to have Ben and Val return home that night to discover that the twins have been abducted yet again.

    • The first time I cried from a soap, Zane's death. I cried for 3 days.
    • Very happy to see GH hit #1 on Hulu! The show's been on fire and deserves the added eyeballs.
    • I really appreciated all the movement in today's episode.  It resonated with me that it felt like the sort of nervous energy that can surround a family after death. I want to point out the EJ scene.  I was riveted by his multi-layered performance. When he told Belle that he went to her because he loved her, and then saw that she was embarrassed by him, and rejected the part of her that was attracted to him.  It started to make even more sense why he would try to protect Johnny (who I still don't think shot him).  EJ feels like a pariah (although TBH, it wouldn't have hurt to bring Marlena some of that tea that everyone had been promising her all morning).  And he doesn't want to pass that along to his son by exposing him as the shooter.  It is interesting that we see none of those same concern between Kristen and lil'Rachel.
    • -- What a stupid party. Devon and Abby leave while Victor goes upstairs to the GCAC bar and talks with Kyle. Then we see Jack giving Nikki ANOTHER birthday toast as if the party has just begun. Huh??? -- This party perfectly encapsulates sweeps month for this show: lame, deadly, boring af. -- Once again, Cole gets really sick and no one insists on an ambulance or the ER. They really want him dead, don't they? Instead we hear multiple characters say "Gee, I hope Victoria doesn't catch it." Cole will be dead before Dumas. -- Kyle is really offering to make a contract with Victor so he can continue to see Claire? Jesus Wept. -- And then the shoe ends with Victor praising Nikki for softening his heart over the years -- after we've seen him treat Kyle, Michael, and Jack like sh_it for days.
    • Your welcome! Will never understand the point of Budig! I forget she’s there 95% of the time and Thudley does too!
    • I do think Zane could have been a decent long-term addition if they hadn't disposed of him - up to Lucas' arrival, at least.
    • It is 4 feet!!! https://www.hulu.com/hub/tv/collections/9979 Today, GH, I am amazed. #1 Up from #2 on Saturday, which was up from #4 during the week last week.

    • If he was responsible for Egyptian dust, you should have led with that! That one thing cinches it for me.
    • I would consider recasting Nikolas again just for the sake of those around him, but you may be right.
    • Watched Mondays episode, wow! That’s all I have to say. It was heartbreaking to watch. You really don’t know how invested you are in these characters until moments like this. Deidre was absolutely phenomenal in that whole episode, as I am sure she will be in the coming weeks. I was a bit torn about having Bo and Hope being the contrast in this episode, but I understand why they did it. And when Bo woke up and said fancy face to Hope, it broke me even more! Honestly, there are no more words except bravo to everyone involved and RIP to the greatest hero that ever existed in soaps John Black
