Geez they really are running out of ideas.

My guess is Viv and a good but never used character like Gennie or Terry will die. Or Alan. Or someone brought in just to add up the body count -- like that man with the mustache who works at the factory. I just hope they will do this better than the farce that was the Hollyoaks fire.

I don't know if I even want to watch Viv die because it'll be all about that hag Hazel. Why is it so popular to despise/loathe/abolish history?

Why are fires so popular at the moment? Is it b/c they are easy to do?

EastEnders and Hollyoaks have had massive blazes, and following on from the news that Neighbours' season finale, will centre around a fire at #26, now ED are having a fire, too.

I bet Viv will either be a victim, or will leave after her business is burnt to the ground. The other person will probably be someone they never use, like Gennie, who I always forget exists anyway.

I still find the show watchable, even if certain stories suck. IMO, the show still has something that others, like Corrie, have yet to get back.

I wish they would pace Chas' revenge better, instead of rushing through it. I'd like to see more scenes of her conflicting emotions, and trying to deal with the fact that revenge really isn't helping, but is something she feels she has to do.

Also, who exactly is that moustache man that has popped up randomly and hangs around w/ Lisa? Why so I have the strange feeling that he'll start hitting on her sooner or later.

This story with Jai/Charity/Debbie/the Dingles must be the story that TPTB said they had to put on hold when CW took maternity leave, last year.

It looks like there might be a very sad announcement coming from ITV later today. There isn't a lot being said but...I'll just link to the Twitter and you can read. I hope that this isn't as grim as it reads :(

Sh!t! Looks like Gavin Blyth did die.

Susie Hill from the Daily Star said that the the Emmerdale folks are in the process of releasing a statement on it...

Emmerdale press office are in the process of putting together a statement about Gavin. Should be over soon....

I wonder who will replace him and be the next Series Producer...

It's so awful. This type of thing has almost never happened with a soap -- I'm not sure it ever has with a UK soap. I guess they will have to pick someone close who can implement planned stories. I feel so terrible for his loved ones, and for the cast and crew, especially since they lost Clive Hornsby only a few years ago.

I had my share of complaints about some of Blyth's decisions but there's no question that he brought acclaim and relevance and increased viewing figures to Emmerdale, after a time when many had written the show off. It's not easy for a soap to return after being dismissed as irrelevant or as played out.

It's a big loss, and just shocking, and I hope he is at peace.

'Emmerdale' producer Blyth dies, aged 41

Saturday, November 27 2010, 11:38 GMT

By Daniel Kilkelly, Soaps Editor

Emmerdale's series producer Gavin Blyth has died at the age of 41, ITV has confirmed.

The show chief - who took office at the Yorkshire-based soap in January 2009 - passed away last night following a short period of ill health.

An Emmerdale spokesperson said today: "It is with great sadness that we confirm our series producer Gavin Blyth passed away last night after a short illness.

"Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this terrible time. He will be greatly missed by us all. Gavin leaves his wife Suzy and children Tom, 15, Anya, 11 and Carter, aged 1."

Emmerdale's executive producer Steve November added: "Gavin has made an immense contribution to Emmerdale since taking over as series producer in January 2009 and during many hugely successful years at ITV.

"As a friend and colleague, he will be missed an incredible amount by us all. It is a very sad day for everyone at Emmerdale. Our thoughts are with Gavin's family and those closest to him at this difficult time."

More soon.

That is horrible! Horrible. And very sad.

How far in advance is Emmerdale filmed and written?

My guess is that it's written until, at the least, early January.

RIP Gavin. He was so young and was married with three young children. They must be devastated.

I'm not completely shocked. A week ago, poster on Digital Spy said that her father had been in the hospital with Gavin who was doing quite poorly.

This reminds me of when Marland passed away. I hope that Emmerdale does not meet the same creative fate that ATWT did after losing Marland.
