I’ve catched up with ED to the newest episode and I’m like: wth is that show even on about?

THIS is the exit storyline for David after 17 years? On paper I would’ve kinda liked it with him Leaving the village hurt after his son sleeps with his ex etc. But what was that on screen?

And Jacob punching him again? THIS is the legacy son of that damn evil Eric and he lets himself get cheated on by his own son and his girl and lets himself get slapped by his son.. again?

Thank god the actor has enough lol

A Statement About Steve Halliwell | Emmerdale (itv.com)

Just adding the official statement.

Steve was a good actor, charismatic, the anchor for several generations of the Dingles. Zak really wouldn't have been anything without him.

He was also extremely good in a small but important role in Threads, as part of the bunker team of "experts" who slowly succumb.

Wow, this is a shock. I don't think anyone have missed how I feel about the Dingles, but those feelings only apply to the fictional characters, not the actors. Steve was a fine actor, and he has been a part of Emmerdale for a long time. I wish all the best to his family and friends. It's always hard to lose a loved one.

I've only seen bits and pieces over the years, but I am in fact watching the plane crash saga this holiday season in time for its 30th anniversary. (There is some claim online Kathy Tate is apparently returning in 2024 after years, but I don't think it's credible.) I always did like Kim and Leah Bracknell's character.

I can't believe it's been 30 years already since the plane crash!

Of course I didn't see it until roughly 1996, since we were a few years behind at the time.

I have mixed feelings about the whole storyline. Yes, it was successful, and well done, but it changed Emmerdale forever and the show has tried over and over again to replicate that success, with varying results.

As for Kathy returning....what would be the point? Don't get me wrong, I loved Kathy when she was around, but she's been gone for over 20 years, and the village is not what it was when she lived there. Practically everyone she interacted with are gone, the only real exception being Kim. And I wouldn't trust the current writers to know what to do with her. I would rather have her memory intact than watching her get destroyed, which she undoubtedly would be. And then there's obviously the issue of Malandra Burrows' health. She was battling breast cancer last I heard. Hopefully she's on the road to recovery, but I haven't been able to find any news about that.

    • I know at one point they were on Hulu & i-Tunes. I just checked it on JustWatch.com & it indicates 1 season on Prime Video & on AppleTV. Have fun!
    • That era is so weird...they made a big deal out of all three of those characters and then they just..disappeared! Not that I am complaining. We talk about the bad out of character writing for Alex under JFP..but this was one example that may have led them to write her being so obsessive with Nick.  WHY would Alex accept Flock of Seagulls guy as her brother? They had her in one scene (setting up the Alan return) complain that Alan abandoned her...she blackmailed him into leaving town and she had been angry at him for helping Brandon with Lujack and also using Spaulding for that dumb dreaming death thing. Endless scenes of her with Simon, I can't believe Bev wasn't bored to death! I would also add Pam writing the scene where she lets Ms. Sally die in front of her to protect Alan and  the writing for Alex could be screwy even before JFP.
    • On this day 34 years ago the final episode of Dallas and came in at an astonishing #2 in the ratings after two straight seasons of weak ratings. Interesting Knots was #27 for that week as well:

    • Thank you for clearing that up. I wasn't watching GL regularly yet at that point, but seems to me I should have remembered the big wedding after Leslie's death (which I do remember) described in the profile. Is there a web archive of SOD summaries, or are referring to your own personal collection?
    • I was bummed that 2.0 ended because Mcpherson (headwriter) had really set up some interesting stories and we never got to find out where the stories would go once they resumed production on 'season 2'. I remembered the EP (Ginger Smith) and a lot of the stars gave a lot of credit to McPherson being able to come in on very short notice and come up with stories/plots (I think it was a very short turnaround time of a few weeks).  It was nice that she got to redeem herself after her year long Days stint was not well reviewed/liked.

    • It seems like a setup for failure to review a single episode of a soap, but Cleveland Amory was a foolish man.  His taste was so predictable, that one wondered why bother reviewing a medium he so clearly disliked. (found on Facebook retro TV group) Another case in point of his misogyny from his review of Dark Shadows (Can you imagine the magazine with the widest circulation in the country insulting its customer in this way today?)

    • They could easily be re-created, or even re-shot in different ways, especially if they were re-shooting scenes at some point, as well.
    • The Ted recast really is a shame because now they won't be able to do flashbacks to the best scenes the show has done to date.
    • That would be an AMAZING twist.
