That sucks, as if the Platts need to get any smaller.

How are all these exits going to reflect on screen is anybody’s guess. Is it too much to ask for to have Gemma and Cheney exit?

Yasmeen had a good run despite the departures of almost all of her family. To be honest, I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did. SK was kind of limited as an actress and the character was inconsistently written during her first several years on the show. Alya is now that last Nazir standing!

I am several months behind, but the teens' excessive screen is annoying me. Max is probably the best of the lot, but I won't be sad when he leaves.

Debbie Webster will be killed off later that year :( whyyyy? Out of all people that brings in some glam and humor will be axed :(

Because on Corrie there must always be at least one character dying of a terminal illness. It's the rule.

Good riddance! I’m a Platt family fan but him, Lauren and Bobby are the worst characters on the show. I feel like someone up stairs saw he could cry on cue and mistook that for him being a good actor, he’s awful and the character is insufferable.

This popped up on my video options and I remember this like it was yesterday.

Then it dawned on me it was roughly 22 YEARS AGO!

The show had really rediscovered its feet and the nation was gripped by the Richard Hillman/Platts story.

That promo still holds up - that story was oddly both the best and worst thing that could’ve happened to the show. I’ve lost count of how many times they’ve tried to recreate it since.

So you could say it's Coronation Street's equivalent to the plane crash on Emmerdale?

As well as other shows, especially Hollyoaks, with its embarrassing number of serial killers over the years- especially under Bryan Kirkwood, who I believe worked on Coronation Street during this period, so you could argue there is a through-line.

It can’t be overstated the rescue job Kieran Roberts did on this show did after the very commendable if slightly controversial job he did on Emmerdale (from 1998-2001, taking it on a step after the ubiquitous Mervyn Watson tenure, but I digress).

Jane McNaught had failed to compete with Eastenders on their patch with a proliferation dark, issue-led stories, such as Toyah’s attack and rape, and the show a husk (and of all the lessons recent producers have learned over the last decade, that heavy-handed approach was not the preferred takeaway for viewers), and this story, as well as the general show direction turned things around.

Today’s episode was really good. Kudos to the production team for the Platt family home burning sequence

Abi, Toyah, Max, Hope, and LeeAnne have been insufferable for months so I feel no ways about how they end up in the aftermath of all this

I love how they’ve been writing Sarah since Gail’s exit. The scene with Todd talking about the baby they lost was sweet even though it doesn’t land the same way with the recast of him

Definitely for the best in Corrie’s case. I often look at my phone halfway through episode wondering how much time is left because the full show can feel longer than it should especially when the episodes are mid. Eastenders never feels that way

Really? I feel the opposite especially with Cindy accusing every freaking person 5 times an episode lol both shows a bit slow these days

Good News. They could honestly cut another half hour while their at it. The show has become to much. Why does a show that is suppose to be set in small backstreet need 6 half hour episodes a week and 65 regular characters? It's insane how greedy ITV has been, and it will probably be that greed that ends the show.

And it continues:

I’m still confused as to why they kept him for so long since Suanita died. Yeah his kids became a bit more central and they needed their father around but was he really needed? NO! This is a character that should’ve put to rest almost 2010’s
