  1. They finally uploaded an episode from 1998! An episode surrounding the killing pool story. https://www.youtube.com/@SoapsDaily/videos Wonder if it will be random or if they'll eventually go the B&B route and upload full seasons.
  2. It was quite peculiar how everything unfolded. Numerous websites share the Top 10/Top 15 rankings of streamers weekly, and I would say that until around the middle to late 2024, Days consistently ranked in the top 10 on Peacock from Monday to Friday. Then, all of a sudden, it just stopped trending completely. It didn't slowly tapper off, it just disappeared and as far as I know, it never regained its popularity. I found it strange that the show didn’t trend during significant events like Doug's memorial, John's passing and memorial, and the 50th anniversary. All of these were highly publicized events. I would assume that fans tuning in during the summer of 2024 would have watched again. Not to imply that a significant number of viewers didn’t stop watching due to the show’s decline in quality; I recently stopped watching it daily myself. It feels like Peacock may have made some adjustments. I recall one of the individuals who posts the streaming charts mentioning before the show vanished from the rankings that Days was trending in the morning but not in the afternoon. They also had a second Peacock account where Days didn’t trend at all during the same period. Once again, I’m not defending the show’s quality because it’s quite poor at the moment, but I can definitely see Peacock not wanting Days to feature in their top 10 to redirect viewership to other programs. NBCU has never fully supported Days, similar to other networks that tend to look down on soap operas, even though these shows have historically been more financially successful for them. These networks wouldn’t even exist today without the revenue generated from them in the past. An interesting point to note is that Peacock recently announced it will finally turn a profit this year after six years. https://deadline.com/2026/06/peacock-profit-nbcuniversal-streaming-matt-strauss-1236939081/ This is largely due to NBCU holding the rights to nearly every major sporting event in the past year, including the Olympics and the Super Bowl. However, I think we can’t overlook the fact that Days has contributed to the streamer reaching this point, where it could become increasingly successful year after year. Hopefully NBCU won't overlook it as well.
  3. I just got my hands on all 14 of the Soaps and Serials Days novels from the 1980s. I've given up on the current Days for now, hoping these will help fill the gap. Has anyone read them? They appear to cover the show's early days all the way to when Mickey discovers the truth about Mike's paternity. I'm curious to see if they align perfectly with what I've learned about that period in Days history.
  4. What a boring mess that promo is, and this is the summer and early fall.....yikes. Like holy DiMera! I get the show sees value in having a villainous family front and centre, especially one spawned from one of the show's most well known characters, but this is really overload. I've said it before, without Joe Mascolo or Eileen Davidson, this just doesn't work. DiMera corporate and back from dead stories are boring and overdone. It was all Carlivati did for 8 years, did they not fire him for change? Like just burn the DiMera's to the ground, I wish Lexie would go Gwen Alden on them all! Like just kill them one by one. Instead we'll probably see her argue with Theo and EJ about how the DiMera company should change for multiple episodes, it won't of course, then we'll watch her slowly die again while everyone screams and beats up on EJ. And I assume we'll be getting another DiMera...the one hiding the "Easter eggs"? 😵‍💫 Awful. The few other things not tied to the DiMera's....like snooze town. I assume Johnny and Chanel will have a crap load of boring scenes whining about their love and worrying about her cancer and the baby, and they'll all end up fine in time for their 2027 exit. That love scene will probably be one of the 2 or 3 times we'll see Lani and Eli between Summer and Christmas. I assume Sarah and Xander will just have a bunch of angst and shouting and Xander will continue to sleep with Gwen while Sarah and Brady continue to keep the sale of ambien down amongst Days fans. And this summer is the 50th Anniversary of Marlena???? All we see from her is a scene telling Xander to get over Sarah and another of her with her family in the pub. I assume she'll get the same treatment everyone has gotten in the past 5 years for anniversaries, some scenes in a random episode, sitting around a table at the pub or bistro remembering 5 or 6 key moments with everyone saying awe and how sweet everything is. I get the show has a 0.99 cent budget and shoots 5 episodes a day, but there has to be more compelling stories than this? Like read a history book on Days, look to the 1960s and 1970s when the show had a small budget but told compelling stories. Even if they copy the story word for word into the scripts today, it would be better than this.
  5. He co-head wrote with Dena Higley from Fall 2016 until Summer 2017, right before RC joined. A significant amount occurred during that period, with plenty of story developments, to be honest, I believe many of those stories were more his influence than Higley's. I think Higley lacked creativity and often made poor story choices. I was more engaged during that period. I would say it was a mix of old school soap with a dash of action/adventure. Kind of how I think the show should be approaching things now. They just need to slow down their production schedule so they're not 10 months ahead :/ You can find weekly recaps from that period on Jason47's fantastic site: https://www.jason47.com/days/synopsesweekly9.html
  6. That's precisely how I feel. The show seems to be caught in a rut right now, in my opinion, due to the current cast of characters and the rapid pace at which everything is filmed. Until those aspects change, it won't make much difference who the head writer is. I must say, I really enjoyed the end of 2016 through 2017, even though Quan was co-head writing alongside Higley, I felt the show made significant improvements after the whole Griffith mess. The Orpheus/Clyde/Xander storyline, the Greece storyline with Stefano/Shane/Carrie/Austin, the plane crash with Paul's jungle fever, the return of Eric and Valerie, and the introduction of Eli. I believe it set the stage nicely for Carlivati to take over in the fall. Hopefully Quan can help make the show less dull.
  7. This ^^^^ that would have been great. It makes no sense Johnny being so shocked and angry after finding out about his conception last year, but being totally fine being in charge of a company owned by the side of his family that tortured the other side of his family for decades.
  8. Wasn’t it this time last year when Gabi and Tony were having this exact same conversation? Like if I could change one thing about this show I would make it so we never have to hear the words CEO, DiMera Enterprises, Titian, Basic Black and whatever corporate names we’ve had to here non stop for the last 7 years. Like can we just stop with this stuff. I know it’s a cheap way to create drama, but it’s boring and predicable. Days is not Y&R, heck Y&R isn’t even Y&R anymore.
  9. The first 60 minute episode aired on January 23 1975. The episode Retro TV has available to stream for that date cuts off at 24 minutes, the last 15 or so minutes are missing. Not sure if it aired on Retro TV like that or not. The next special episode, the 90 minute episode that aired on March 15 1976 and included the return of Nick to save Althea aired in 3 half hour increments on RTV and is available for streaming that way. The other 60 minute episode which aired on March 29 1977, the return of Carolee to Madison, is the same as the 90 Min episode, broken up into 2 half hours segments.
  10. I noticed that the soap channel Sony set up on YT to release clips of it's serial content a few years ago got a different look and name. The banner says it will be releasing daily episodes of Days from 3 different seasons. https://www.youtube.com/@SoapsDaily/ Has there been any news or discussion about this? Seems very random. Season 30 would be great to relive, especially with good video quality.
  11. I've definitely indulged in the episodes on Youtube over the years. The early years are great, been waiting for certain 1995/1996 episodes, so that's great to see they are included. This is one of the very few things I'll give Brad Bell kudos for. He sees the value in getting those episodes out there. Even if there isn't a great profit to be made, it's a great way to bring attention and publicity to the current show. I really hope Sony is paying attention! We need classic Days and Y&R next!
  12. Such a surprise, but I guess we all should have seen it coming. I know I haven't watched a talk show on linear television probably since before covid, I know I am not alone. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if NBC exited the late night television market in a few years too. Podcasts and social media have taken the place that all these shows had with an audience. People aren't going to tune into a talk show at a specific time to watch an interview with a celebrity when they can listen to at their leisure a half dozen podcasts that person probably appeared on promoting whatever. I wonder if any podcasters will start selling their shows to these local stations at some point? That would definitely be something cheap to fill the airwaves with and something different than local news or reruns of some repetitive primetime crime drama.
  13. He did. The character owned a funeral home. Stephanie ended up in a morgue drawer there at one point. I am happy this story is finally moving along, though I feel this part of the story is gonna include a lot of Alex huffing , puffing and whimpering about Stephanie, while Stephanie does the same tied to that chair, not very exciting 😑 I just hope Jeremy gets a proper apology after all this is said and done. No matter his past, he doesn’t deserve to be thrown under the bus for this mess.
  14. It is baffling that the writers thought this storyline was a winner. I think the characters discovered the truth about the attempted Halloween stabbing (and the flying pumpkin intervention) and the soda poisoning from the fall. As usual, there is absolutely no action. I understand that the filming style and budget limit story, but does the show have to be this boring and devoid of suspense? You don't need blockbuster explosions or car chases to create drama. There are plenty of low-budget ways to build tension. Instead, we just get characters having the same circular conversations 50 times without any interesting conflict. When I started watching full-time again last spring, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't fast-forward through anything lately, that promise has gone out the window. The Stephanie/Alex and EJ scenes are unbearable. I’m practically draining my remote batteries skipping past them. I just can't force myself to watch; half the time, the show is just glorified background noise now, and I still can't bear these characters 😑
  15. I figured he didn’t exit next week cause there are scenes he is in that haven’t aired from the winter promo. His whole story has been such a disappointment. As others have said, that actor is capable and attractive. I would rather we be saying goodbye to Alex and Stephanie. Like they are so insufferable to me. I can’t stand seeing them in pictures let alone watching them on screen 🤮 I would love both he and Mike permanently on the canvas, but we can’t have nice things sadly. My guess is he’ll return and help rescue Stephanie from her stalker, further redeeming him. If he ever returns in the future it will be with a clean slate, though I doubt we’ll see him again with this regime in charge 😠
  16. With all the time he spends being shocked with the stalkers message board posts while burning Adrienne’s lasagna and lusting after Stephanie’s blandness, all while Papa Steve is in the next room searching the dark web….I cannot even imagine. If the stuck up little bitch was doing that though I might just change my mind 😂 😂 Hell, it would probably be the most exciting thing to happen in years.
  17. Catching up on this week's Days. I will from here on out be referring to Alex as the "stuck up little bitch"! I really wonder if the show knows there is a pretty large section of the Days viewing audience rooting for the stalker. Like please take this snooze fest of a couple out!
  18. I've caught up for the week. It's been nice not having EJ around, if only this could be a permanent occurrence! I actually enjoyed a lot this week. Minus the coldness between Deidre and Suzanne, I enjoyed the book club scenes. I think it makes sense Marlena isn't ready to face her grief yet. I've been thinking for months it would be nice to have Marlena in scenes with Maggie and Julie discussing losing their husbands, considering it has happened to them in rapid succession. In terms of the beef between Hall and Rogers, I think it was actually pretty tepid this week compared to the last few years. I remember the scenes after the Horton house fire last year, Deidre looked so annoyed throughout that whole sequence of scenes with Suzanne, she didn't even try and hide it. It really is such a shame. Julie, Maggie and Marlena have been on screen together for half a century, they should be in scenes together regularly and sharing stories. The one thing that I noticed this week, probably more than before is how low stakes this whole show is. Both the custody battle and this stalker story for example is just scene after scene of people talking ad nauseam about these things, but there is little action involved. The show built this brand new courtroom set last summer, they should of trotted it out and had a real custody battle between Chad and J&J. This could have been a huge story for the Horton family, and the 60th anniversary. During that mediation, when Chad brought up Jennifer's addiction, I literally said out loud, what isn't Chad bringing up Jack raping Kayla? Why isn't J&J bringing up Stefano and EJ? Chad literally is the last person to call out any horrible behaviour with in his own family lately, why wasn't that brought up? I just kept imagining the scenes we could have gotten of this going on in court. Imagine having Horton's and DiMera's testifying on the witness stand, and all their dirty laundry being aired out. The same with this stalker story. We get scene after scene of Stephanie and Alex in that apartment now with Steve, talking about how dangerous this stalker is. What has the stalker done that is dangerous? Posted disturbing messages about Stephanie. Do any of these writers read social media. People post vile and disgusting comments all the time about celebrities, it doesn't mean they need police protection and criminal investigations. This stalker should have been doing horrible things, not just posting messages about it. Literally the worst thing that has happened at this point is Alex has huffed some powder sugar, and Stephanie and Alex had to go stand in the HTS for 5 minutes, not exactly the type of material that leaves you on the edge of your seat. My advice to these writers is amp up the stakes here. Less talk and more action. I know the budget makes it hard to write a lot of things, but be creative. It's not really that hard, Chat GPT could probably help lol
  19. Interesting. I assume her scenes will be with Rafe as he mentioned this week going to see Vivian. She seems to be at the point where she returns once a year, which is totally fine with me because I love Vivian and Louise so much! I saw a video a few months back on YT, someone accosted Louise in a airport (she was a great sport about it), it seemed to be from last spring, and she mentioned that Ivan would be returning at some point without her, I assume she wasn't available at the time. I wonder if this means we'll be seeing Stefan soon as well?
  20. I am not sure how long, maybe @JAS0N47 may have a better answer, but the show was extremely popular. I remember seeing TV ratings from SA in the late 2000s early 2010s and the show was one of the top “Soapies”, ranking high up amongst the original SA soaps, which are some of the highest rated programs in the country. I think it had a later time slot on TV, so it must of had a lot of young people watching. I believe part of the reason it was cancelled was because of government mandates for more local programming. From what I saw from a Google search that reason got it cancelled a few times as it bounced around channels until 2022. I wonder if the show streams there now?
  21. I haven't watched today's Days yet...but did they actually have that little girl eat a piece of paper? 😳 WTF
  22. I am not saddened by this as I feel like these characters should have gone with RC. But, with this probably being done more to save money and not to make changes on screen, I can see why this is disheartening to some. These characters should have been written as the next generation of Days, but sadly they received horrible writing, and I personally can't see a path moving forward where they work at all on screen at this point. All four actors are good, and I am sure they could work anywhere else, wonder if Y&R will pick any of them up? They already hired a few Days cast offs. I hope there are more cuts. The cast is too big, and filled with characters who are well past their expiration date. It would be interesting if Days was doing this to bring back vets. Bo and Hope maybe. It probably is budget directed though. It does sound like the budget is slashed with each renewal they receive, they have to save money somewhere, and having 30 something cast members, even with small episode guarantees must be tough on a shrinking budget.
  23. Train 48 was a very interesting concept. It was based off an Australian series. The whole show took place on a huge train set. You never see the cast off the train, until the last episode, when it shows them all exiting, symbolic I guess. It aired 4 nights a week, then cut back to 2 nights I believe in its final months. I watched pretty regularly for a year. It definitely drew a lot of its plots from the more humorous side of life. A lot of the actors were from improve groups around Toronto. The whole series is available on YouTube I believe.
  24. Not sure if this had been posted, but all 65 episodes of the early 90s drama/soap Fifteen is streaming free on CTV's throwback section of their website. https://www.ctv.ca/shows/fifteen It stars a very young Ryan Reynolds. The show definitely gives off Saved by the Bell vibes, mostly because of the look and era. It's also comparable to Degressi as well, though it leans more to innocent after school special lol
  25. So delicious! Kay and Jill on Y&R are definitely one of the greatest. Both Brenda Dickson and Jess Walton brought fire opposite Jeanne Cooper! I would add Marlena and Kristen from Days on any list....pre Carlivati that is. One of the biggest sins of the previous writing regimes was taming their relationship. I will forever say Eileen Davidson was one of Deidre Hall's greatest screen partners. The scenes right before Kristen locks Marlena in the secret room where she confronts Kristen about Susan and her pregnancy lies literally are some of my favourite Days scenes ever! Love LOVE them.
