"Loving," a soap opera created by Agnes Nixon & Douglas Marland in 1983, aired for 12 long years on ABC,
but never was a success on daytime. The show premiered as a TV movie on primetime, and during it's early years,
it centered around the blue-collar Donovans and the blue-blood Aldens. The stories revolved around alcoholism,
post-traumatic stress syndrome, murders, and all storylines known to the world of soap operas.

In 1995, ABC no longer wanted to keep "Loving" on it's schedule. The ratings kept falling. Yet, ABC didn't want to
just make it disappear, so they asked the head writers to write a storyline which could allow some of the character
to return in a spin-off called "The City." Relocated from the fictional town of Corinth, Pennsylvania to the trendy SoHo
neighborhood of New York, the residents all lived and worked together in a single building. This building became the
new setting for the series and housed a bar, a medical clinic, an ad agency, several residential lofts and a penthouse.

Unfortunately, none of these changes were enough to ensure the success of the series. After initial viewer curiosity wore off,
the show began to post lower ratings than its predecessor Loving. Then, in October 1996, the series star Morgan Fairchild
departed the show after her one-year contract expired. In a last ditch effort to keep the show alive, the show transplanted the
popular General Hospital character, Tracy Quartermaine to replace Fairchild as the show's lead villainess. However, ratings
did not improve and the show was canceled after less than a year and a half.

Lois on GH, in 2004.

I can see that. I know her and Lisa LoCicero auditioned for that role too.

I'd forgotten Lorraine's debut episode on TC was already on YT - much earlier than I thought, January '96. They do discuss Charles. I hope I can finally see Steffi and Cooper's exit.

I think Erica would've worked on TC provided it was kept to six months to a year - no longer, though she could visit. Home needed to be AMC.

Garin Wolf tried to revisit Tracy's TC ties to the Soleitos in 2011. It didn't go well.

Steffi wasnt needed on The City. Cooper should have returned the last week of LOVING & Cooper & Steffi exit. Tony goes to NYC and has a relationship with Ally earlier then it happened on Screen

Erica on the city for 6 months then followed by Jane would have been magic

Tracy & the Solietos on GH failed because they didnt bring on Carla, Tony etc. That was needed. Having Skye talk about bedding Gino Jr had no payoff

There were rumors about Carla being cast in '11. Not sure how legit they were.

Still making my way through LM. As much as I love LLC, any time Lisa Peluso enters the scene her force of presence and chemistry with the delightful (and DILF) Randolph Mantooth dwarfs Lo Cicero's decent chemistry with him.

Unpopular? opinion: I think Steffi and cute little Richard have real chemistry too.

I'm surprised Amy Van Horne didn't get snapped up because she was so good in the show.

I also wonder if the creators of FELICITY watched THE CITY because the vibe is very similar.

God I want to break my screen everytime I see Richard on it. Having watched the first few episode of Tha Cit-eeeeeh, I can understand sorta why he is the way he is, but damn I can only handle him in very minute doses.

If you are ever curious, look up some of Corey Page’s work on Heartbreak High (the early 90s Australian drama that he was on before he scored his role on Tha Cit-eeeeeh). He’s actually really good in it.

So I’ve been bingeing on any old City episodes that I could get my hands on on YouTube, including the final episode, and I have questions (putting in spoiler tags for people who might not know the storylines)...

Spoiler

Sydney was murdered by Molly in the final episode?? Why would they choose such an ending for such a pivotal character of the show?

Am I correct in gathering that Richard turned out to be Sydney and Nick’s son? What was the actual story behind that? And how was Zoe involved?

Glad to see Tony and Ally got a happy ending, but one thing I picked up on - Danny was in love with Ally after all? Particularly after the very toxic relationship they shared post Casey’s death?

I think they killed off Sydney for shock value and an act of spite against Morgan Fairchild. Danny was obsessed with Ally and schemed to try to get her, which led to his relationship with Carla, who was obsessed with Tony. I don't think Richard was actually Nick's son - Sydney had lied because she didn't want him to be with Zoey, who was Richard's daughter.

Hi there -- longtime lurker, first-time poster. I watched Loving for years and followed The City from beginning to end so I just wanted to chime in:

Spoiler

Richard DID turn out to be Nick's son. It was confirmed by Sydney and Richard also traveled to Australia to verify that it was true. I think Zoey might have thought Nick could be her father but that wasn't true. All we ever learned about Zoey's identity was that her real name was Mary Katherine, and that her parents were "Cassie" and "C."

And having watched The City all the way through, I enjoyed the implication that Sydney was killed at the end. She was a miserable character and it was a satisfying wink at the audience.

Best of luck to her but those posts make me likely to never, ever want to read her Facebook.

Yeah her trump posts and the Covid 19 stuff but then she has a pic that shows she is a LGBTQ Ally

Well, thanks for finding the page, anyway. Sorry for not saying that before.
