Oh dear, 3 soaps with a 1.9?! Soaps are dying! It also looks like Days lost those viewers they might have gained after John's death, what a shame. As good as some of us find the sorority stuff good, I think it's turning off many people who turned back in.

ABC seems like it's rapidly dying, even GH couldn't rise for the begining of sweeps.

Again, sad when the #3 soap is at a 2.3.

Days' decline had nothing to do with John or the sorority story. Nothing happened last week. The week after John's death had Phelle sex, Sami having twins, etc. The show itself wasn't bad last week but when nothing big happens the ratings will tumble.

Although, then again, looking at the numbers for all soaps, not even big events give you big numbers anymore. Fans are seeing through GH's sweeps stunts now, even if they are good.

I knew Days would go down but I didn't expect AMC, GL, and OLTL to freefall with it. We have 6 shows in the mix for 3-8 and that is a shame. Soaps are in trouble. As far as Days goes, the balance has been improving and hopefully the show continues to see increases as we go along and other stories begin to develop.

I think GH's sweeps isn't nearly as interesting as it's been in the past. The hostage crisis and train wreck were interesting. This Ball concept is boring even me, and I put up with a lot from my soaps. It takes a lot for me to tune out and I still haven't, but I'm bored.

That 2.0 on Friday saved Days too. That actually bodes well for this week. That episode had some good stuff between Steve/Kayla, EJ/Stefano, and Bo/Hope. Bo and Hope have been on all this week and the Shawn/Belle/Philip stuff did a good job with the numbers last week so, hopefully, it will help for this week along with the wedding.

Scary numbers all around though.

The numbers do not surprise me for OLTL. The show is awful right now. There is nothing to watch but people walking around with nothing to do. That is why i no longer watch.

GH did not do great but hopefully next week they will increase more. They are still years ahead of OLTL.

Welll...on a more positive note at least Days only fell .1 and had a 2.0 on Friday!

Damn...AMC and OLTL are just falling and falling. Some of it may just be fans who were tortured for such a long time by Mctavish's writing even with what little B&E have done it caused them to just quit watching. But also it seems not much even happens on it anymore. Damn.

I know. AMC is in free fall. I really don't think it's that bad myself. I wonder if more and more people are getting DVR's and that's why the ratings keep falling?? I know I don't watch any soap live and haven't for months. Why do that when I can use my DVR and skip the commercials?

I don't know if this makes a difference but Comcast Cable in NJ is discontinuing the basic cable. So, those of us who have basic cable had to get digital cable with dvr. That's the new "basic" cable. We just got ours last week. I know NY has Cablevision, but I can't tell what the other states have.

The problem with DAYS is that despite a good week or two for John's death, fans have still been rejecting Hogan's vision for DAYS since he arrived. In order to even have a chance at long term rating success, they need a new headwriter. Hogan has been a flop from day one. DAYS doesn't need hardcore fans who read soap mags or the internet and know when there is a good episode here or there. They need those large numbers who can turn DAYS on, sweeps or not, and see the fantastic soap the fell in love with.

Glad that ATWT held steady (shame about Friday!) and B&B is doing good as well. B&B deserves a huge boost for their sweeps story. Not surprised about GH, I think GH fans are sick of all this darkness. They need to call Claire Labine to work her magic again.

But DVR viewing is captured in the ratings. Specifically, for the ratings reported in SON, the ratings capture all shows watched within one day of their initial airing. I think there is also a rating which includes DVR plus seven days (for primetime at least - not sure about daytime but I assume so and obviously these ratings come out much later).

    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
