Could DAYS earn some Emmy recognition next year?

Hello guys.

I've been asking myself this question for a while now: Can Days of Our Lives FINALLY get some Daytime Emmy nominations next year? It's not as if DAYS have had a really good year (they really haven't...it's been more like a rollercoaster so far). BUT, if there's one thing I've learned over the years is that when it comes to the Emmys (daytime AND primetime) it's not really necessary to have a good CONSISTENT year in order to receive nominations. I know I'm not in the minority when I say that DAYS has improved A LOT since Hogan Scheffer (sp?) has taken over as headwriter.

What episodes (if any) can DAYS submit into the Best Drama and Best Writing categories?

Kristen Alfonso and Peter Reckell are obvious choices for Best Actress and Actor. Does anyone remember specific episodes surrounding Zach's death that either actor could submit?

Martha Madison's name has been mentioned before. What about her?

Anyone else?

Anyone else?

Rachel Melvin and Bryan Dattilo.

I believe that Rachel has the most difficult character to portray and does a supurb job.

Bryan is top notch and has stretched as an actor, too.

I really think Kristian Alfonso is terrible and I'm hoping the usual DAYS snub is still in place at least for her. Compared to the depth of performance given by so many others like Martha Byrne, Sharon Case, Victoria Rowell, Kim Zimmer, etc. she is WAY out of her league. All she did was lots of crying and no subtext. There has to be a point A to B to go to in a scene, but she was on the same level in all her scenes. Most overrated acting I've ever seen.

For an example of how losing a loved one is done, watch Peter Bergman or Eileen Davidson for John's death on Y&R or Joshua Morrow and Sharon Case's BRILLIANT performances when Cassie died. I don't think Alfonso came close to that.

But I do hope that they get Emmy nods for what is most likely going to be a great 2007.

I disagree. Did you see the episode when she and Bo were standing over Zach's body in the hospital? When Bo had to pull Hope away, and she was struggling... wow. I thought she was fierce in that episode! I can't remember if she was telling him to 'wake up for mommy' or 'squeeze mommy's hand,' something like that... but she wasn't over the top at all. She wasn't screaming or wailing or TRYING to full-on cry. She had real tears, but acted as if she was trying to hold them back, which is ALWAYS more effective than a full-on cry (in most cases).

And then, of course, there's the scream from when she heard from Lexie that Zach was dead. C'mon now! Anybody can scream. But that wasn't just a scream. That was a primal scream! A scream that came from the pit of her gut. She sounded like she was in complete agony. It's difficult to watch!

I want Renee Jones to get a nod for her performance during Zack's death. It wasen't showcased much, but when it was, she nailed it! Seriously, RJ and JR were fantastic. I liked KA's scream when Lexie told Hope, but what got me crying was Lexie and Abe's grief.

I'm waiting for late November and December for Hogie to write Emmy-worthy material for the actors/actresses on Days. Right now he's still trying to put all the pieces in place for some storylines to move forward.

I said before Sheffer even began as headwriter that I hoped that he would write great material that the actors/actresses could sink their teeth in. So far the actors/actresses have stepped up their performances and I think with Hogan's material, they should get some nominations....

I started watching Days at the middle of the year so I can't comment on the Zach death scenes. The only Emmy-worthy material that I've seen since I watched the show was Sami telling Austin that she didn't want to be his 2nd choice anymore. Ali did a great job in expressing different emotions.

I'm waiting for late Nov/December to get Sheffer's good stuff!! Given how he was treated at ATWT, I'm sure that he every incentive in the world to write some of his best material in the next 2 months to show that he's still got IT AND to show ATWT what they lost. Based on at least one interview, reading b/w the lines, it seems that Hogie is still resentful of what happened to him at ATWT. Success is the best revenge and I hope that Hogie remembers that when he's writing the shows for the next couple of months....

I want to see Days get some Emmys or at least some type of Emmy recognition.....

ALison Sweeney should be at the very least nominated, she has stepped it up a notch. BD too. IMHO, I think those two are the best actors on the show. No way will KA be nominated. James Reynolds always gives solid preformances so I can see him with a supporting.

Will they actually win. Doubtful. Maybe next year, but at least a nomination is a step in the right direction

I think Kyle (former Phillip, sob) had a lot of emmy winning performances before he left.

I wish he would have stayed... Days is not the same w/out him.

Also, MM as Belle had some really good stuff.

And I liked the episode where Jack came back to find Jen marrying Frankie, and Steve and Kayla saw each other.

I miss that time - Days was so good.

Patch's return story was so good.

And I loved Kayla's entrance story. MBE as Kayla was so emotional in "The Rose" montage. If montages could win emmys for the shows, that one would win hands down.

I think KA's acting during the Zack has been overhyped and overrated. I agree with Chris that it was alot of crying and not much else. She is a decent actress but nowhere near in the league of Flannery et al. Lead actress is probably the strongest Emmy category, remember.

The DAYS actors most deserving of noms are James Reynolds and Bryan Dattilo. JR totally rocked in the Lexie/Tek reveal scene. Bryan was superb when Lucas found A&C on the roof and also with his appeal to Will's kidnappers.

Ali Sweeney is also long overdue a nod.

I imagine DAYS will get snubbed again, though. Hogan needs longer than 3 months to make his mark. Right now, he is still cleaning up JER's mess.

Martha Madison over AS any day! I don't think AS had any scenes worthy of a nom this year. MM did. I want DH nominated, but they didn't give her anything to do that gives her a shot, even though she did awesome with what little she did get (Sami confrontation, dealing with the miscarriage after MI was about the only thing she did get... other than that she was on 2-3 mins per episode max 2 episodes a week average and off the air for like three months unvoluntarily).

I see an Emmy nod for writing from something that Hoggie does.

Sad to say, I don't think DAYS will get any acting noms next year.

In a perfect world, Martha, Alison, Renee, James, Peter, Rachel, and Kristian (I think she was good during the early part of the Zack story) would be nominated. I would give a nomination to Stephen Nichols just for that scene where he remembered Stephanie. But I don't think the Emmy panel is ready to fully recognize DAYS yet. They're still too far up CBS and ABC's butts to recognize the talent at NBC.

Sadly, I agree. NBC will get it's token nod again and that is it.

Here is who should be up from Days and who I feel has the material:

Kristian Alfonso-Overhyped? Yeah right. You can argue the writing was not perfect but her performance was raw and right on par with those other women, all of whom I have seen perform because I watch those shows. Not only should KA be nominated she should win. Like Kenny said, and he mentioned the scene I was going to mention, her performance came from the gut and was amazing. I do agree Sharon Case was robbed last year but I thought KA blew her out of the water.

Peter Reckell-He has alot of good material. Finding out Chelsea killed Zack, saying goodbye to Zack, the graveyard scenes, disowning Chelsea. Reckell also has the stuff to win IMO.

Alison Sweeney-Giving up Austin would be my choice for her. That episode showed alot of range.

Renee Jones: Her performance during Zack's death were brilliant and she could always submit the episode after her affair was exposed too. She has some material.

James Reynolds: He has godo material too but his most notable was learning about Lexie's affair and the episode after that.

Martha Madison-She has loads of material from Claire's illness, to the Shimi wedding and Shelle goodbye, and most notably losing her child. Martha deserves a nod for sure.

Matt Ashford- His scene with Jennifer when he talked about his fear of dying was brilliant. That episode was good enough to warrant a nod in supporting in my book.

Stephen Nichols-The episode in the bar that ends with him racing after Kayla and most notably the episode where he remembed Stephanie.

Julie Pinson and Rachel Melvin-Both had solid performances during Zack's death and Pinson performed brilliantly during her confession on the stand to Hope. Melvin has lots of solid material to be in younger actress.

I would say Billy Warlock too but he only had his breakup scene with Jennifer. James Scott may be an option next year since he doesn't have the material this year.

For show and writing, I think they should go with episodes around Zach's death or the Zach funeral episode.

It's a process based on numbers. NBC doesn't have the numbers. So, Unfortunately, no. I don't think so. Maybe one or two, but they usually get one or two random ones.

I agree with you Kenny. KA did a wonderful job. I had to stop watching DAYS for like a month before I could actually watch those scenes. And of course PR did a great job too. The whole scene whenBo had to pull Hope away from Zach's death bed was REALLY hard to watch!

I don't think anyone else besides perhaps Renee Jones and Billy Warlock have done a Emmy worthy jobs this past year. It's not that their acting is bad. It's just that they havn't gotten the material to really act out and show what they've got.
