Well we are into October, and I have been thinking about this for awhile. I was going to wait and start a post on it later, but tonight posted this in another thread. But decided to make it a separate thread and see what others thought.

Think about the year so far and pick your Top 10 single performances for the year (or a combination of performances over a single week). Not overall Top 10 performers for the year, but just for 1 single or 2 combined performances.

Mine are:

That makes my 10 Top Performances this year so far:

1) Tom Pelphrey(GL) - (the breakup scenes with Tammy)

2) Peter Bergman (Y&R) - (the week of John's death)

3) Kristian Alfonso (Days) - (the week of Zach's death)

4) Maura West (ATWT) - (the break-up scenes with Jack)

5) Allison Sweeney (Days) - (the Monday she ended it completely with Austin)

6) Stephanie Gatschet (GL) - (the breakup scenes with Jonathan)

7) Peter Reckell (Days) - (the aftermath of Zach's death, esp. with Billee when he broke down in the alley)

8) Michael Park (ATWT) - (the breakup scenes with Carly)

9) Jerry Douglas (Y&R) - (the week of John's death)

10) Kim Zimmer (GL) - (the Oct 13th episode in which Zimmer gave one of the most muted well-acted scenes of her career when she talks about dying with her son Jonathan, and going out on her own terms)

Honorable Mention:

Kate Collins (AMC) - (scenes in the cabin);

Billy Warlock (Days) - (finally realizing that Jennifer is gone);

Frances Reid (Days) - (saying goodbye to Jennifer);

Van Hansis (ATWT) - (coming out scenes with Holden & Lily)

Benjamin Hendrickson (ATWT) - (Jennifer's death)

Michael E. Knight (AMC) - Tad admits he killed Dr. Madden

Trevor St. John (OLTL) - the scenes as Todd nearly breaks down just as he thinks he is going to die

Dan Gauthier (OLTL) - the Kelly/Kevin breakup scenes & then Duke's memorial

Heather Tom (OLTL) - the Kelly/Kevin breakup scenes

I'll only do Y&R/GH/ATWT since there the soaps I watch most.

I can't really place them in order, and my choices are pretty subtle;

Y&R

1.) Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters): A fierce actress and has been a big source of Y&R discussion this year. Also, kudos to Devetta Sherwood who has been a terrific acting partner for Ms. Rowell. The best scenes these two shared was when Dru was on the prowl for her daughter, which led to the brilliant confrontation at the Carlton's house. Rowell has probably had some of the "shortest" scenes this year, but she turns two minute of dialogue into an expressive piece of excellence.

2.) Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters): Neil learns that he is not Lily's biological father. The revelation as Neil slowly learned that he was not the father of his daughter Lily was heartbreaking. KSJ played that scene extremely well.

3.) Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott): Peter has SO many scenes, but the one standing out in my head right now was when he confronted Phyllis over her affair with Nicholas. He was on point and didn't miss a beat. Oh and John's memorial/later Gloria confrontation comes to mind as well.

4.) Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor): Probably surprising because she's RARELY on, but that scene where Katherine told her "old friend" John to fight for his life. There is just something about that scene that still gets to me.

5.) Eric Braeden (Victor Newman): Victor dillusioned by his epilepsy points a gun at a horrified Nikki. Later when Nikki reveals to Victor that he pointed a gun at her, Braeden brought it home, and proved something to many people -that he wasn't just a one note actor, but a versatile and equally good one.

6.) Christian Leblanc (Michael Baldwin): Michael prays for Lauren in the chapel. CLB was excellent there. Those scenes are hard to pull off and he was just marvellous.

7.) Michelle Stafford & Michael Graziadei (Phyllis and Daniel Summers): Daniel learns of his mother's affair and they have it out. It's a shame Y&R refuses to show more of this relationship because these two are exceelent together.

ATWT

8.) Maura West (Carly Snyder): Carly breaks up with Jack. MW acted her ass off in those scenes, and you empathized with her character. MW took a rather repetitive story, and turned in some briliant performances.

9.) Colleen Zink Pinter and Benjamin Hendrickson: (Barber and Hal Munson): Both did a terrific job surrounding Jennifer's death.

GH

10.) Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davids): Her stuff dealing with Sam was sensational. NLG is full of charisma, and makes lesser actors more appealing.

I really couldn't think of much for GH/ATWT because its late, but there were certainly more performances.

I'll do a few from OLTL, since that's the only show I didn't drop or fast forward 95% of:

(in no particular order)

1. Trevor St. John - the scenes during Todd's execution and also the goodbye scene with Starr earlier

2. Nathaniel Marsten - Michael at John's crash site and telling Marcie

3. Erika Slezak and Jerry verDorn - Viki and Clint watching the "Tess" tape

4. Bree Williamson - any scene towards "the end" when Tess realized integration was inevitable and had sad goodbye talks with Brennan and Nash.

1. Linsday Hartley: Theresa finally gives up on Ethan while in Rome

2. Kristian Alfonso: Anything related to Zach's death

3. Frances Reid: Jack and Jen's farewell

4. Tom Pelphrey: The breakup

5. Stephanie Gatschet: (see above)

I'm going to end up looking like I'm completely biased here since I've only watched 2 soaps (currently 1) this year:

1. Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan, GL) - tie between his breakup scenes with Tammy and his second ITL where Jonathan imagines his life tied down with Lizzie and his baby and without Tammy

2. Stephanie Gatschet (Tammy, GL) - break up scenes with Jonathan and also Tammy's ITL which dealt with Sandy's death and her acknowledgement that she helped cause it

3. Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus, GL) - Gus finds out that Harley & Mallet had a one-night stand and feels completely humiliated since Dinah knew as well...causes him to turn to drugs once again

4. Maura West (Carly, ATWT) - breakup scenes with Jack

5. Jesse Soffer (Will, ATWT) - Will gets drunk after his non-grad and openly admits he has no ambition

6. Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) - Dinah threatens to kill Alan-Michael thinking he killed her father. She is reminded how she will be viewed by everyone else if she goes through with it.

Eek! I can't even come up with 10. :(

Can't think of 10. Here are three that come to mind...may post more later.

1. Hunter Tylo(Taylor, B&B). The credit may be more due to the scriptwriter that day, but when Taylor told off BFF Stephanie, that was a moment I can't seem to forget. Even though her face can't really move, I was totally feeling Tylo that day. There's no chance in hell Brad will do it, but I'd love for the pre-noms for Supporting Actor to be Tylo/Lesli Kay.

2. Tom Pelphrey(Jonathan, GL). Pelphrey proves he's top notch in gimmicky episodes like "Baby Daddy," where he treats every scene as though he were acting in an Oscar-contending film. The progression from his present day to his future were given subtle, realistic shading by Pelphrey that very few actors in his contemporary can pull off.

3. Julie Marie Berman(LuLu, GH). During the scenes leading up to the abortion at 7. Berman shows us spunk, vulnerability, and life in the role of Luke and Laura's daughter. Emmy will be very kind to her next year.

Kristian Alfonso/Peter Reckell (DOOL)- beginnig with Hope discovering Zach lying in the street and all that surrounds his death.
