1. Peter Reckell (DAYS)- 2 scenes really stick out for me. The one at the gravesite and the other in the alley with Billie.

2. Kristian Alfonso (DAYS)- The scene when she says goodbye to Zach. I cried when Bo grabbed her so they could leave Zack.

3. Van Hansis (ATWT)- When he comes out to his parents.

4. Maura West (ATWT)- During her breakup scenes with Jack.

5. Martha Madison (DAYS)- The episode when Philip terminates her pregnancy.

6. Victoria Rowell (Y&R) The fighting scenes with Carmen or when she was by Devon's bed side.

7. Alison Sweeney (DAYS) The episode when she tells Austin it's over between them.

8. Eric Braeden (Y&R) Anything. He's really surprised me this year.

9. James Reynolds (DAYS) When he discovered Lexie & Tek together.

10. Christie Clark (DAYS) Her scenes when she confronts Sami & Lexie.

-Kristian Alfonso (Hope, DAYS)

Scene: Lexie comes out and tells everyone that Zack is gone. The look on Hope said it all. Hope's entire world fell apart at that very moment. Alfonso hit it out of the park. She just kept saying "No, no, no..." and they started getting louder and louder until she was clinging to Bo and screaming at the top of her lungs, jumping up and down, not wanting to believe it was true. I swear to God, if this woman gets passed up for an Emmy nomination...

-James Reynolds (Abe, DAYS)

Scene: Abe finds Lexie and Tek in bed together. I had no idea Reynolds had that in him. I knew he was a good actor, because I remember the baby switch reveal, or so I thought he was. I completely forgot that magnitude Reynolds can play when he's playing angry. Magnificent!

-Stephen Nichols (Steve, DAYS)

Scene: Steve finally remembers Stephanie as a little baby. I only added Nichols because I needed a 10th person. I have to admit that I'm not impressed by Nichols and Evans' returns just yet. I understand that Nichols is currently playing a character, so different than Steve.

-Julie Pinson (Billie, DAYS)

Scene: Billie confesses her scheme in front of the court. Julie Pinson proves why she should've been chosen as Billie back in '96. We could've went right from Rinna's great performance straight to Pinson without even having to endure Krista Allen's sexy and vulnerable Billie. I never respected Pinson as a great actress until that scene. I have so much respect for the actress now. One of my faves!

-Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R)

Scene: Jack says goodbye to John before he dies.

-Judith Chapman (Gloria, Y&R)

Scene: Gloria comes to the realization that Jack changed the locks and she is truly out of the Abbott family for good.

-Melissa Archer (Natalie, OLTL)

Scene: Natalie faces the truth that John's not coming back at the station.

-Victoria Rowell (Drucilla, Y&R)

Scene: Neil finds out that Lily isn't his daugther and Dru tries to explain.

-Eric Braeden (Victor, Y&R)

Scene: Nikki tells Victor that he pointed a gun at her, but he doesn't remember.

-Van Hansis (Luke, ATWT)

Scene: Luke comes out to Kevin.

1.) Kristian Alfonso: Everything she did during Zach's death affected me so deeply. Better get an emmy nod.

2.) Peter Reckell: Zach's death, especially the graveyard scene, and also when he disowned Chelsea this past summer.

3.) Alison Sweeney: Her scenes when giving up Austin.

4.) Peter Bergman: John's death.

5.) Martha Madison: Claire's illness and the recent loss of her child.

6.) Renee Jones: Her work during Zach's scenes.

7.) Nancy Lee Grahn: Her work during her illness and during this Ric/Sam story.

8.) James Reynolds: Learning of Lexie's affair.

9.) Julie Berman: The abortion story.

10.) Stephen Nichols: Steve remembers Stephanie.

HM to Julie Pinson (Billie's confession), Bryan Dattilo (Lucas learns about Carrie), Christie Clark (Carrie takes on Sami and Lexie), Lindsey Hartley (Theresa gives up on Ethan in Rome), Matthew Ashford (Jack and Jennifer talking about his fear of dying), and Jennifer Ferrin (Jennifer's death).

Here are two scenes from Kristian Alfonso this year, IMO they offer a hint of her greatness and these would not even be the scenes I chose for her to submit for emmy contention, but then again they are FANTASTIC moments that were OUTSTANDING!

CLIP #1 (Hope learns Bo got Chelsea released from Jail)

-

CLIP #2 (Hope learns that Zach is dead and loses it in Bo's arms)

-

If I had to pick her episodes for submission, they would be the episode in the church where she says goodbye to Zach before his funeral. She was SO damn good in this episode, I mean the character interaction was SO real it was scary..with Hope brushing Zach's hair and tucking his teddy in with him...UGH so emotional.

The other episode I would submit would be the episode where Bo has to pull her away from Zach's bed in the hospital and she can't let go and is weeping...I wish someone had this online!

IMO if Reckell and Alfonso are not included in the Top 5 at the Emmy's this season for Lead Actor & Actress, then the winner TRULY did not beat the best of the best and a MAJOR MAJOR crime will had been committed by the Emmy's!

I so agree Mitch-those would be my choices too and for Peter Reckell I would choose the graveyard breakdown scenes and maybe when he disowned Chelsea this past summer because it will show his range.

I remember the episode where Bo had to pull Hope away and she just kept repeating "I can't" in regards to saying goodbye. I was just in tears and it takes alot to do that to me while watching something. Nothing on daytime this year has moved me like Kristian and Peter did in that storyline and if they don't at least get a nod (at this point they should win in my book) then I will be more angry then I have ever been in regards to the emmy's.

The emmy for lead actor is going to either Peter Bergman or Anthony Geary. Michael E. Knight is the darkhorse. If both Eric/Peter are nominated then Geary might take it.

Top 11 Performances I've Seen This Year (in no particular order)

Maura West, As The World Turns (CarJack breakup scenes)

Michael Park, As The Wolrd Turns (CarJack breakup scenes)

Peter Reckell, Days of our Lives (Zach's death, mainly the graveyard stuff)

Kristian Alfonso, Days of our Lives (Zach's death, and finding out Chelsea caused it & Bo covered it up)

Kim Zimmer, Guiding Light (everything she's done with the breast cancer story is solid)

Crystal Chappell, Guiding Light (the whole Ava reveal has been phenomenal, though the writing sucks)

Sharon Case, The Young & the Restless (her edginess through the whole divorce has been phenom, I'd cite the episode where she confronted Nick about his affair, clad in lingerie identical to what he'd bought for Phyllis)

Eric Braeden, The Young & the Restless (Victor getting his cojones back, Victor waking up in the hospital after pulling a gun on Nikki)

Peter Bergman, The Young & the Restless (John's Death, Jack finds out about Phyllis's affair with Nicholas)

Kelley Mennighan Hensley, As The World Turns (Emily loses it and attempts suicide)

Benjamin Hendrickson, As The World Turns (all scenes confronting Emily, stuff shortly after the Paul/Emily wedding, Jennifer's death)

No way does Peter Reckell not deserve to be included with these other men this year. His performance IMO has rivaled the best that these men have done this year. If Reckell is nominated and submits the correct episodes, he absolutely has just as good a chance of winning.

IMO his performance is better than Knights, Geary's and Braedens. I think Bergman is the one to beat myself, but Reckell is a close second!

I agree. I think the final 5 will possibly be:

Peter Bergman (Y&R)

Eric Braedan (Y&R)

Anthony Geary (GH)

Michael Knight (AMC)

Peter Reckell (Days)

That is giving Emmy voters a lot of credit and assuming they don't vote block style again. If they do then I think Robert Newman or Ron Raines could sneak in. I think both are great actors, but I just think those 5 are the tops for this year as far as material goes.

I do think Peter Bergman will end up being the winner. He has just had better material to work with.

Sorry I'm not really a DAYS fan, so I'm not THAT aware of his work. As for MEK I had the pleasure to watch his tour de france performance when he admitted to killing that guy (Madden?).

As for Anthony Geary....his best work will be coming shortly.

ETA: I have seen some of PR work earlier this year and he will most likely get a nom.

I agree with you - MEK was amazing in those scenes at the Madden trial and then with Dixie afterwards. He deserves a nom. I haven't seen Bergman or Braeden's work - so I can't comment. Reckell was great earlier this year when I saw his stuff. It'll be a tough race. I don't think Geary has a chance with what he's produced so far (which has mostly been comedy)....BUT when Laura returns - well from what I've already seen in the promo - is going to blow us away...his stuff is coming up and he'll be a top 5 contender shortly.

I'll give my Top 10 performances later tonight...

Some probably won't agree, but Thorsten Kaye had emmy worthy material in May Sweeps. Not many people can carry off a storyline where the person you're working with their character is in a coma.

I do agree that Peter Reckell deserves a nom, he was great during the death of Zack stuff.

Him getting the nom is going to be the work though. Even though I am not watching Days right now, I don't think they should be shut out of the Emmys for their performances this year. Alfonso, Reckell, and Sweeney esp. all 3 deserve noms, and some others like Reynolds, Jones, Nichols, Reid, and Warlock have been really good too - but those first 3 I want to definitely see get noms for their outstanding work this year. They absolutely have earned the right to be there this year.

But Days still has to overcome the voting hurdle against them. I still believe the networks are going to vote block style. I want to give them credit that they will vote on merit, but I just don't see it happening. I am sure there are some out there, but for the most part I see them voting as they are told to vote to keep their jobs. And to give their show the publicity that it gets for a few months there surrounding the Emmy noms. I don't think that actual viewers let it influence them too much, but there may be some viewers who are impressed by it.

I think this year with the show getting better and the increased buzz about the show - if Days is ignored, the outcry about it will be lots worse. And it will expose the whole process to be as flawed as it is.

Oh yeah - I forgot about TK - he had some awesome stuff in May with the coma - but also had AWESOME stuff in February/March when Ethan died. I thought that might have been even better.

As far as the voting process goes, it's always seemed to me that the easiest way to even the playing field would be equal representation on the voting panels from each network. That way it is weighted properly. I'd even go so far as to say that when determining the panelists from CBS, they are split evenly between the Bell & P&G contingents. The solution seems so simple to me, why can't they see it? I'm seriously becoming aware that people are so anti-mathematics that when simple mathematics can be used to solve a real-life problem, they don't even bother looking for a solution in that direction. Sorry- RANT.

The lead actor race- I couldn't agree more with the 5 basically everyone has stated:

Bergman, Braeden, Reckell, Knight, and Geary. But of those, the only one that I think is a lock is Peter Bergman. The others could all be ignored in favor of dark horses Thorsten Kaye, Michael Park, Robert Newman, Maurice Benard, and Trevor St John. I'd say Braeden & Reckell are particularly vulnerable, given their history with the Emmys.

Since you named the lead actors, I'd go a step further and say the following 5 are the gals most worthy of this year's spots IMO:

Kristian Alfonso, Maura West, Sharon Case, Kim Zimmer, and Nancy Lee Grahn. To me, those are the five ladies who have given the most fully realized performances of the year.
