Days Actors

Bryan Datillo is surely improved but I don't think he has as much insight into the psychological state of his character as the above do. It's more his choices than his execution, which is often entertaining.

Have to say, this is brilliant, imho.

Days- Actors

Drake Hogestyn- Not because he's talented, imho, but because he is that character so fully, and his amazing eyebrow is at this point a hallmark of the show.

Darrin Brooks- I like Max in spite of myself (he's not that well-developed yet) because he's so good.

Kyle Lowder- gone soon, I know. But he felt more Phillip to me than anyone else in that role.

Billy Warlock- Similar to Brooks/Max, I care about the character in spite of the storyline.

John Aniston- The man radiates power in this role, it's perfect.

Days- Actresses

Alison Sweeney- My love for her is irrational. But also, she brings a vulnerability and depth to Sami that's not always written. And I give her a lot of credit because she probably could have left for something bigger/better at this point, but she's stayed. It's rare to see that in a younger actor, and it's...it creates more of a connection with the character.

Deidre Hall- I used to say that it was time to backburner her, but watching the show when she's not there...I have to admit that she's necessary. She brings a warmth to the show when she's on.

Martha Madison- She's rare on NBC, imho, in that she always (from what I've seen) makes an effort. She's talented, and she's made me root for Belle.

Rachel Melvin- Like Sweeney, it's irrational. I think I enjoy the committment to the role. She doesn't appear to be consciously making Chelsea more sympathetic or anything- she just does it, and it's really enjoyable.

Suzanne Rogers- The first time I really saw her was during the stupid neverending kidnapping crap, and I think I wept when Maggie was murdered. That's talent.

It's hard not to add Lauren Koslow and Judi Evans. I have problems with Evans, because I think part of the problem with the character is that she's so good at portraying every iteration of Bonnie. Still, she's an amazing actress. Koslow, for her part, is so charismatic an actress (that purr!) that Kate continues to be a viable character despite never getting punished for wrongdoings. And I don't want her to get punished, is the thing- that's because Koslow is so cool in the role.

Passions- Actresses

Liza Huber & Lindsay Korman- both have brough depth to two characters that...honestly I hate the characters at this point, but they are both very good at playing them. For Korman (or Hartley, whatever), she made a one-note villain into a character that's been discussed and debated for years despite doing essentially the same thing. She's got skill.

Emily Harper- I love her. Like Madison, she's one of those rare NBC-ers that tries all the time despite bad writing.

Passions- Actors

Um...yeah.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES:

ACTORS:

Peter Reckell (Bo)

Stephen Nichols (Steve)

Bryan Datillo (Lucas)

James Reynolds (Abe)

John Aniston (Victor)

ACTRESSES:

Kristian Alfonso (Hope)

Mary Beth Evans (Kayla)

Renee Jones (Lexie)

Martha Madison (Belle)

Alison Sweeney (Sami)

Lauren Koslow & Deidre Hall have performed well enough in other years to absolutely make this list and are still great, but the above 5 (especially Alfonso & Madison) have proven they are deserving enough to make the top 5 this year. Hall and Koslow have just been too backburned this year.

GH

Actress

Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis)- This cancer s/l has been great. She knocks the ball out of the park daily.

Julie Marie Berman (Lulu)- She came in with guns blazing. It's been a long time since a young actress has done what she's doing. She's so believable as Luke and Laura's daughter.

Jane Elliot (Tracey)- Funny when need be and still gives it when she has the material.

Kim Mc (Robin)- The writers are waisting her talents. I really don't know why she came back to the show, but I'm glad she did.

Robin Christopher (Skye)- Loves how she has just a natural chemistry with everyone she works with.

Actor

Ric Herst (Ric)- Makes Maurice look like a child. He acts circles around him daily.

Greg Vaughn (Lucky)- This drug addiction s/l just shows what he can do given material.

Jason Thompson (Patrick)- Has really grown on me. Also has great chemistry with a lot of the cast.

Tony Geary (Luke)- One of the best actors in daytime.

Ted King (Lorenzo)- He makes being bad look so good.

Y&R

Actress

Michelle Stafford (Phyllis)- You can say what you want about the character she plays, but Michelle brings it always. Her range is off the charts.

Victoria Rowell (Drucilla)- Makes crazy look funny without trying. Also can turn on the emotions at the drop of a hat.

Sharon Case (Sharon)- Hate the character, but must admit, Case has been rocking this past year and a half.

Jess Walton (Jill)- I wish she had her own s/l. I miss that.

Jeanne Cooper (Katherine)- She's the dutchess.

Actor

Eric Braeden (Victor)- Victor has so many layers and EB displays all of them effortlessly.

Peter Bergman (Jack)- I love to hate Jack.

Christian Leblanc (Michael)- No matter what Michael has to deal with, Christian always brings it.

Joshua Morrow (Nick)- Has really grown into the role over the past couple of years. No longer the boring character he used to be.

Kristoff St. Jonh (Neil)- When he has the material, he's awsome.

DAYS

Actors

Stephen Nichols- Clearly a no brainer. The guy is phenomenal in every respect.

James Reynolds- I'm not a fan of Abe but JR brings a tremendous presence and moral gravity to the role. His emotional scenes are always captivating.

Peter Reckell- His character is sometimes written as too macho for my taste but- thanks to Reckell's portrayal- he can be funny and endearing. He has created one of the few genuine "heroes" on soaps.

Bryan Dattilo- One of the most underrated actors in daytime IMO. He has improved enormously over the past 10 years. I like the subtlety he displays in many of his scenes. He also plays romantic scenes very well.

John Aniston- Very, very cool. I always enjoy his scenes.

Actresses:

Alison Sweeney- She is just a big ball of emotions in every scene. She is always entertaining, can do comedy and injects a vulnerability to the character that has never existed in the writing.

Susan Hayes- Capable of stealing the show even when her character is not the focal point. There's a reason she was nominated for an Emmy no less than 4 times in the 70's.

Suzanne Rogers- Always knows exactly what is expected of her in a given scene and- despite crappy treatment by TPTB- her effort level has never wavered.

Mary Beth Evans- Understated elegance

Ashley Benson- I know she can't yet be compared to the established performers, but she has impressed me more than any younger actor on the show in the past 10 years. There is a refreshing naturalness to her portrayal.

DAYS:

Stephen Nichols

Peter Reckell

John Aniston

James Reynolds

Bryan Dattilo

Ever since he came back, Nichols won my heart as Nick. He instantly became my favorite character in the history of the show and I have to give to Nichols completely. There's something so raw and dynamic in the work that he does, especially when he gets to play drama, like Friday. The way he was shaking and bellowing when he remember the tiniest slither- just wow. Reckell has always been up there for me. When he gets the right material, he knocks it out of the park. Aniston is great. I think to this day it was a big mistake to soften him in making Isabella is daughter. They didn't have to soften him to make that work; in fact, the dynamite could have been all the better if they clashed a bit more than they did, IMO. Only having read about the Victor of yore, the clean businessman of Titan is majorly unappealing. Still, he's great. James Reynolds- lordy, lordy, lordy. Abe may be boring as hell, but this guy is the one reason I could neve runderstand those who'd want him gone. EVER. His storylines generally suck, but Jim is just phenomenal, especially with anger and sarcasm. The greenest of the list, Bryan Dattilo, is so highly underrated, it's not even funny. He's truly grown. Honorable mention to recently departed Matt Ashford who, much like Aniston, really lost a lot when he was softened unnecessarily, and to Billy Warlock, who somehow makes me not laugh at Frankie's misfortune.

Suzanne Rogers

Alison Sweeney

Martha Madison

Judi Evans

Renée Jones

Suzanne Rogers is great. There's a reason she's the last actress on this show to have one an Emmy for her work. She has more talented in a strand of hair than most actresses have throughout. The fact that she's reduced to dayplayer status is appalling, but she even sells that like hotcakes. Alison Sweeney, of course, has carried the show for the past decade or more. While this may have been during a dark age for DAYS to many fans, she's not why. Madison proved Friday just what a gem she is as Belle. I can not stand the character for the most part, but this lady has IT. I never saw Judi Evans in anything but Another World before. Paulina was such a bland character, yet I was fond of Judi's work. Her range is unpredictable, something that has become more and more obvious with the improved writing. Jones has been robbed of an Emmy Nomination more than once. The last several years, beign reduced to resident doctor made me want to scream after her work during the whole of the babyswitrch storyline. Unlike most of the players in that, she sold it all. And I enjoyed every last minute of her beautiful wickedness.
