Okay, but assuming a what if where Sonny cannot just keep on as he has been for years, then what could or would be a satisfying end for him?

Well, what if this is the set-up to usher him off? He shoots a Fed. He is arrested & charged. He gets bail. Brennan told Jason he would want something from him & they would talk again. Jason goes to Brennan to see about him breaking Sonny out & making him vanish into thin air, i.e. he & Brenda go to some country with no extradition treaty.
