BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
Are you saying you want to watch it live during its broadcast airing time? If so with that package you just have to go to the CBS local station feed attached to your account and its right there I honestly hate that and prefer the upload to be after the national airing. I always have to avoid Eastenders and Corrie spoilers on my timeline super early in the AM, I was happy BBC waited to upload during the EE anniversary week.

Episode 3 was fantastic. Watching this show feels like buying a train ticket and happily having no idea where the stop is. The Bill and Dani confrontation did not disappoint, Karla M and Timon KD have electric chemistry already. The visceral and violent way Dani went after Bill only for him to softly disarm and return serve arrogantly vicious reminded me of JR and Sue Ellen at their nastiest from Dallas. None of the other soaps give you meaty fights like this so I’m glad BTG is delivering on that front. The dialogue was really strong in these scenes too, I loved Dani telling Hayley “past is prologue” before walking into the elevator and breaking down. I like that Bill seems to be genuinely protective of Hayley as well, they could easily just play him as an outright scoundrel. Naomi and Chelsea talking about their dysfunctional parents was interesting, so Dani’s always been the “gotta check their temperature or they may fly off the handle” type and its made the girls want to get as far away as they can. 🤔 I can’t wait to unpack this family dynamic more. Vanessa being on freaky frog time with somebody not her husband was kind of odd but because I like the actress I’m definitely curious to know more about what the hell is going on there 😂 Dani cockblocking was hilarious, as was the have nots gossiping about the Dupree’s at Orphey Genes So much mystery being set up with Nicole’s side of the canvas. I wanna know what happened to Andre’s parents and why he’s so adverse to pictures. Leslie being such an obvious Nicole hater then running the assistant off the road was crazy lol, great filming and editing for that whole juicy cliffhanger. I wasn’t expecting this actress to be as good and natural as she is, I’m fully locked in for whatever she and Eva have planned. I want to like Martin but the actor is definitely going in the weakest link pot alongside the white people who aren’t Vanessa 💀 He’s set up to be the most important Dupree grandchild but leaving a lot to be desired because of his weak acting. Hopefully he improves over time but if its still this cringe in 13 weeks I’d call Tahj Bellows or somebody for a “The role of Martin will now be portrayed by ____” announcement That said I’m really curious what’s causing Martin’s bad dreams and why Anita and Vernon feel the need to protect him from Bill. Watching them summon the whole family so they could force them to go to Bill and Hayley’s wedding was the kind of stuff I watch soaps for. Poor Dani lol I’m glad Nicole at least had her back. I loved Anita dressing Dani down for cursing at her and Vernon swooping in to convince Dani to go along with attending. I still have to pinch myself that we’re getting more and more episodes. They’ve packed so much soapy goodness into the first 3 already I can’t wait to see whats coming next

She honestly reminds me of the ingenue casting blunders of AMC in its later days (Babe #2, Marissa #1, Colby #2). They were supposed to carry story for their set of the canvas but never had the presence or charisma to pull it off, hopefully JJ improves where they never did. It worked fine for me this morning

Phideaux Xavier was one of my favorite GH directors and he did a great job with episode two. There was a marked improvement with the way the camera moved, shot framing, staging, etc. I especially liked what was done in the Nicole vs Hayley scenes, Dani confronting Bill at the office at the end, and the Anita & Dani opener. You can tell he put some effort in directing as opposed to just doing the typical static framing we get in soaps now so kudos to him, I hope the rest of the roster follow his lead. Anita did a great job comforting Dani, there were so many layers displayed with their dynamic it was fascinating to watch. Dani does seem a bit deluded about what the state of her marriage really was so I look forward to unpacking that further. The shot where Dani was holding the wedding invitation and began breaking down and questioning if Anita knew about Bill and Hayley was especially good use of the set and cameras to follow a characters train of thought I loved being introduced to Nicole’s side of the world. Her and Ted have the most natural chemistry of the couples we’ve seen so far, I loved meeting their staff and their home set 🔥 They’re definitely building these two up for a mask reveal and I’m actually going to be a little sad about it, I wonder why Leslie was so disturbed seeing him at the hospital Hayley continues to be audaciously delusional, I can’t at her bringing Nicole a plate of cookies trying to get on her good side after all the mess. 💀 Nicole is a great sister and the “I fell in love with an inconvenient man—And now you have to deal with the inconvenient consequences” dialogue between the two of them was great stuff. Bill is like a black JR Ewing with how sly he is man. I appreciated his protectiveness of Hayley and the way he blackmailed Vernon subtly into getting everybody to go to the wedding was hilarious. The end scene with Dani wrecking hell in his office was amazing and I can’t wait to see their dynamic in full. Ashley is still a huge weak point for me and I hate that she seems to be the anchor of the “Beyond” side of the canvas. Her scenes with her mom, Eva, and Leslie instantly had me checking out of the show until Ted walked in and made Leslie react as they were leaving, I also liked Shanice her trainee but I think its a problem when the recurring day player is more interesting off rip than the contract character we’re meant to enter the world with. Martin is another casting red flag for me, the actor was stiff in the first episode and it only got worse here. Hopefully they stop giving him the civil rights diatribes and he can give a more natural line delivery. I’m super curious what his bad dreams are about and what secret Anita and Vernon are trying to protect about him 🤔

Its so crazy that this is a real show lol, my goodness how lucky it feels to get this at this time. I watched live and then rewatched on CBS app and plan on doing another rewatch later this morning but wanted to wait to share my thoughts. The show did not disappoint at all and gave me everything I look for in a soap, high drama, good production, good characters and (mostly) good acting The opening scene with Nicole driving a Mercedes into the gates with Best of my Love playing and Anita and Nicole being greeted and seated just immediately felt RICH as hell and distinctive and I loved the way the camera moved. Starting basically in medias res was a great choice because even with the early dialogue being exposition heavy it made me feel like I’ve already been watching this family for decades and TT, DD, and KM specifically did a great job just feeling lived in in there characters already. I can’t at Bill and Hayley sending Dani an invite to the wedding lmao, right out the gate we see how trifling these two are and it made me side with Dani early on even as she displayed some pretty destructive and vicious behavior. I’ve seen a lot of Erica Kane comparisons but she actually reminds me of Tamara Braun to early Laura Wright Guza era Carly with how vicious, controlling and confrontational she is. The way she runs her daughter Chelsea’s career while simultaneously melting down over the end and betrayal of her marriage makes for the kind of characters I LOVE and I can’t wait to see what happens when she finds out Chelsea and Kat are scheming to cut her as manager. I loved the early confrontation with Dani and Hayley, this mistress got some audacity and I was already cheering for Dani to whoop her ass at this point but I also find her weirdly sympathetic? The actress is sexy and talented too and might have my favorite shot in the opening credits with her little wink to the camera. The “Back UP Hayley” moment was chef’s kiss. Nicole and Anita trying to calm Dani down and Nicole disarming Dani’s attempts to make digs at her was even better, Nicole might actually end up being my favorite of the Dupree’s I love a calm person who can get you together without breaking a sweat and Daphnee Duplaix is just so natural and at ease in the role already. I like Vanessa but the fact she made sure to secure her real estate commission with Bill and Hayley before ratting them out to the Dupree’s is hilarious! 😂 Her warning about the Dupree’s and the kind of woman people in Fairmount Crest fear and give a hard time to was a great way to set up Hayley’s arc on the show. Bill’s intro scene was great, I love his office set and he feels like a good antagonist already. Right from the jump we see him leveraging favors for favors like a slime ball and Anita, Nicole, and Dani telling us immediately that he’s always been a cheater and likely manipulated Dani to clout chase off the Dupree family name and connections is instantly believable. I think this is going to be a great character to watch and I’m curious if his daughters or scenes alone with Hayley humanize him a bit or have him look even more ain’t sh!t. I loved the scenes with Vernon and Martin so much. Reminds me of me and my Grandaddy and its so rare to see a black man and his Grandson dynamic properly showcased on Daytime, hell tv period. I buy what they’re selling with Vernon as a celebrity and Martin as a congressman. Naomi and Jacob hunching all episode was funny, FINALLY a soap with love in the afternoon again! I’m not a big love scene guy but this was actually nice to see compared to the stiff unsexy stuff we see on the other shows. I like both characters already and they have good chemistry. Now for the only part I disliked of the show—Ashley and boyfriend/husband who’s name I’m not even bothering to lookup. What a waste of airtime lol, yuck. Neither one had much charisma and they took me all the way out of the viewing experience. Who the hell cooks breakfast shirtless in an apron? And why should I even care about these two when the rest of the show is so centered to the Dupree’s? All of their stuff was a chop for me even her little flirtation with playboy at the end who could be a same mama and daddy sibling with Jacob to the point I thought they actually were the same person at first. I loved the scene of the whole family gathering around Dani and giving her a pep talk. You can already tell who Vernon’s favorite child is and it seemed like it actually bothers Anita a little bit. I felt the devastation for Dani once Vanessa made her announcement and I LOVED the final confrontation with Hayley. WACK HER AGAIN lol and the family shooting Hayley eye daggers ( especially Anita and Chelsea, whew) and Karen Huger with the “Welcome to Fairmont Crest” was amazing, really great first episode. I can’t wait to really live in the world of this man, I still have to pinch myself. Its the soap I always wanted but thought I’d never get 🥹

When considering the LA fires, the fact Jeff Kober was filming his final scenes and headed out the country right after and another guest actor/character was booked for those shooting dates, and the fact that that specific set build is only scheduled to be up for a certain days in production rotation yeah, I think its more down to schedule and not an assumed beef with one actor that has very little evidence of support. 🤷🏾♂️

@janea4old the whole segment aired during the original broadcast of the Awards on CBS, BET, etc but I’m guessing the promo video portion was meant as an ad similarly to how the Grammy’s will debut videos for artists sequenced in with the show but not include them in the rerun edits. That moment with Kerry Washington is one of the most viral of the night so it was a good marketing spot for the show

Melrose Place
The longer the pod goes the more layers of info that get peeled back. I had no idea Courtney Throne Smith was an alcoholic and got sober right before Melrose.

The Paley Center panel was amazing to watch on Livestream glad you had a good time @BetterForgotten I could listen to Tamara Tunie for hours, Daphnee Duplaix’s recount of her last story on Passions was also hilarious and it was cool to get so many BTS insights. Jibre Hordges talked about the first few weeks being kind of rough for the newbies and a huge learning curve for everyone collectively and some the details they dropped in this panel confirmed it. I’m glad TT convinced production to stop giving the cast too many scripts in advance. Also nice to see the Y&R and B&B cast members at the event in LA. I spotted Keith David chopping it up with Clifton Davis in one IG story, he’d make a great villain on the show. The first 15 seconds are good then it just kind of falls flat. The mundane ending was the worst part for me.

I wish American tv could still inspire this kind of audience gathering outside of sports. Game of Thrones was probably the last of it

It was definitely a sad death but the anvils were pretty obvious the last 4 or so months so I already expected it. The montage at the end with Julia’s theme playing and then the waling to close the show definitely got me choked up, solid episode ☹️

The anniversary episode was great, I’m so glad I didn’t have Angie Watts return spoiled lol, what an amazing surprise this morning! Thinking about her appearance in Ross Kemp’s documentary on the show and doing Lacey Turner’s podcast I should have known something was up! My favorite moments were obviously Angie’s ghost motivating Sharon to scream so Grant could save her (and how amazing to have that all take place at the destroyed staircase at The Vic), Phil’s breakdown with Grant, Linda and Nigel with Nigel revealing his dementia and Phil finally getting help, Kathy saving Cindy, Grant and Bianca teaming up to get in The Vic, and Reiss psychotic loser ass dying by fallen bathtub. Martin and Stacey do nothing for me as a couple I actually like him better with Ruby so I’m mad Stacey’s petulance has him in dire straits. Also wish I was in the UK so I could make sure to vote Jack to win the national poll because I find Denise and Ravi so weak as a couple, I like him better with Chelsea and Priya. Looking forward to the live episode today I slick want to find a BBC stream so I can watch in real time

Rebecca Herbst usually doesn’t respond to things but I’m glad she did. Conspiracies run too deep nowadays, I didn’t realize so many nonsensical rumors about the show were coming from Zooms that people are being charged money for 😂 I got access to the ABC NY feed so I might start watching the show via that after BTG starts instead of waiting for Hulu uploads.

Without commercials, soap opera episodes are only about 36-40 minutes each, making a full week’s viewing under 3 and a half hours. The idea that this format and episode length is some huge hurdle just feels…outdated. The most popular content consumed right now includes daily multi-hour livestreams/random topic deep dives, people watching 200+ episode series like Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order or binge viewing every new show these streamers drop that have legit hour long episode run times for 8-13 episode seasons. Streaming has completely changed how people watch TV and all of the current US soaps are some of the only content that stay perched in the top viewing lists of their respective on demand platforms. Beyond The Gates just has to get people hooked quickly with compelling characters and good drama and be consistent with it. Based off of what we’ve seen so far I think it can meet the challenge.

Loved the first episode of the ET specials. I have to pinch myself seeing all of the actors and sets and the love and care from everybody bringing this show together, its still insane this is really happening. They gave us so many great details and nuggets. The diner being named after MVJ’s mother, CBS head George Cheeks father being canonized as Vernon’s, the black history being sprinkled throughout every fabric of the show. Jon Lindstrom really hit the nail on the head with his comments on diversity. Major TV networks have talked a big game for decades but most times its been pure lip service or temporary. With this show we have real representation in front of and behind the scenes as well as a serious investment from the companies invested and its such a joy to witness.

Love the anniversary edit to the opening and Sharon reading a letter from Angie while they showcased the various families of the square. I enjoyed Honey and Billy’s wedding overall but the Grant and Bianca scenes were the absolute highlight of todays show, what a great reunion to witness. I’m glad Bianca kept her foot on Grant’s neck for how he treated Tiffany. Poor Phil is a depressive trainwreck and none of his family and friends seem to really grasp it. I can’t believe Tracy just gave him a pint knowing his history. His scenes with Lexi and Linda were particularly sweet but sad and I’m just glad Cindy swiped his gun before he could get to it I enjoyed the twist of Priya working for Cindy to con Ian so I was sad she switched sides so easily lol. Cindy’s meltdown in The Vic was good and I just love her and Ian going at each other so viciously. My last guess for the shovel culprit is Peter now but I still think it could be Gina or maybe Bobby with a surprise return and if it is Bobby I hope she puts a bullet in him.
