Van Hansis was hamming it up today, my goodness. Lucas was so grating I actually found myself siding with Nina, Willow and Drew. I will say I was glad when Lucas called out Drew trying to use Sam’s death as an excuse for him and Willow hunching, that was nasty work. The way they keep showcasing Drew and Nina pulling Willow’s strings will only be interesting for me if they have Willow lose her sh!t and don’t just try to excuse away her own trifling behavior. Michael’s scenes with Jason continue to show him to be a pansy in what should be his own quest for vengeance. I’m over him. I enjoyed Emma’s snark and games of deflection with Sasha and the Scorpio women. I hope the reason for her quitting her internship and transferring to PCU is messy and the character maintains this early bite and shadiness going forward. They gotta stop scripting bedroom scenes for Chase and Brook Lynn. The only time I’m fine seeing someone hop in bed in a sweatsuit is when their character is broke with no heat or supposed to be fighting a cold. I’m all fertility issue storied out after sitting through Molly and TJ but this is clearly just a way to add drama to the Gio is Brook Lynn’s kid reveal. I liked the Jack/Joss/Carly scenes. Its such a shame Charles Measure wasn’t a Jax recast because he and Eden McCoy have decent chemistry. I was hoping for a Jackly kiss at the end, I’m surprised how slow the show is going with this pairing. Lulu going off to Prague and Brennan’s assistant tailing her was interesting. The way French lady’s call with Brennan went made me think he wants her to take Valentine out for good. Of course Dante didn’t make it to the airport in time lol, Lulu was wrong for forcing Rocco to lie but I’m glad they didn’t stretch that out. Sonny and Kristina scenes did nothing for me but that last shot with him grabbing his chest in pain made me intrigued 👀

It’s mostly TPTB’s fault that Trina not being paired with another white guy is automatically seen as devaluing her, but it saddens me that’s the narrative reinforced when she gets a Black male love interest. Some of the comments thrown at Kai, his actor, and the Kai/Trina pairing have been so gross that I can’t take a lot of the supposed advocacy for Black characters from that fanbase seriously anymore. The nitpicking and loud refusal to let Trina grow outside of Spencer just ends up contributing to her marginalization on the show. They flirted with Gio and Josslyn a bit when he first started at the Metro Court, but he and Trina’s dynamic has been developed much more meaningfully IMO. Their bonding over grief and their conflict over Ava and Sonny were solid moments, but I wasn’t surprised the audience’s rejection of a potential pairing led to the introduction of new love interests. That said Gio and Trina were still given cutesy moments as recently as when the YA group went Christmas tree shopping/decorating so I’m hoping they eventually circle back to a quad with Kai/Trina/Gio/Emma. As for Joss and Trina’s friendship, it feels balanced to me now. Most of the time, Joss comes off as the second fiddle. I get the complaints about how they’ve been written in the past but the way people talk about it feels overblown compared to what’s happening on the show right now.

I can’t blame the show for moving away from a potential Trina and Gio pairing. Her “fans” (air quotes bc I think they only support with terms and conditions that include NAC’s Spencer) continuously rejected every scene Gio and Trina had together saying he looked like a little boy next to her. Their tone only started to shift once Kai showed up. 🙃

These Christmas episodes have been pretty good. A lot of nice family scenes and the utilization of the large cast to make the holiday feel real has been on point. I love the way they’re playing Lucky clearly falling head over heels for Liz again and the scenes with him, Lulu, Laura, Dante and Rocco were nice. Tracy gave Lulu that speech on not forgetting Rocco and she still ended up leaving after Charlotte gave up her location, poor kid I felt bad for him at the end. Brook Lynn leering at Tracy and Lulu bonding and telling Chase how jealous she is of her was funny and yeah they continue to drop the Gio is her kids hints heavily. I could have done without the impromptu singing, violin and guitar playing but whatever its Christmas Gio and Emma interaction was too short for me to judge chemistry or her new actress but I’m excited to have the character back and already kind of shady with the pick pocketing plot. The Scorpio/Jones family is so deep on canvas now which is cool and I continue to be a happy Spixie fan. Ric and Alexis decorating for Molly was a bit corny but I still enjoyed it. NLG and RH haven’t missed a beat chemistry wise. I continue to like Jordan and Isaiah but I hope they get the ball rolling on an actual plot for them next year once this slow build is done. It was nice he sent TJ to be with her instead of at work Jason and Ned talking about Edward was nice to see, I really love having him back at the Q mansion. His scenes looking at the stars with Danny were sweet too and I love how bothered he and Sonny are by Brennan and Carly. 😂 Joss seems to be smelling a rat too though I wonder where they’re going with the mention of him knowing about her and Dex

GH: Role recast
I’m glad they finally recast because Emma should have been back on canvas ages ago and the stalling for the previous actress to grow up never made any sense to me. They better do something interesting with her and Josslyn’s dynamic considering the history of their mothers. I wouldn’t mind a long term quad with Emma/Gio/Trina/Kai as well that ends with Gio and Trina crossing the line.

That’s awful Sabine had that experience and AT, JHC and Brian Frons should all be ashamed of themselves. I hated Sabine as Greenlee though and was glad when Rebecca came back. 💀 That Spike kidnapping story with the “apologies my darling” song playing every episode was one of the worst in soap history. Just absolute torture for months on end and Sabine and Alicia’s hammy acting was too much.

I could have sworn we got a leaked casting call for him at one point in the year when they first went heavy with Blaze/Kristina/Natalia. I still expect him to pop up as Josslyn’s next love interest with a Sidwell is the father reveal. I agree that the Joss/Trina/Gio/Kai set needs some interlopers badly and messier storylines. They’ve spent most of the year focused on their parents and mentors drama instead of creating their own. They’re all so saccharine like a bunch of Power Rangers too and its boring to watch.

I loved Curtis finally confronting Drew and gloating about the Aurora takeover. Him taking Drew’s nameplate off the door and tossing it to the floor was hilarious. 😂 Both characters and actors are so much more interesting to watch when the writers give them more arrogance, competitiveness and shadiness to play. Willow is so naive its honestly pathetic. Nina having Martin file legal separation papers was out of line but Willow inviting Drew over for Christmas was even worse. Chase and Michael talking about her past in a cult seemed designed to highlight how easily manipulated she is but I feel no sympathy for her tbh. I look forward to the inevitable Nina and Drew hunching reveal leaving Willow in tears. Martin and Tracy actually had a nice spark and I liked seeing Tracy go hard for Michael. Following that up with her telling Jason he’s a murdering ingrate gave me whiplash lol, goddamn that was funny 😭😂 I did like the end where she said she prefers him to Drew and Jason finally accepted that he’s part of the Q family. I honestly never thought the show would ever do this and I love it. I would be more okay with a Jason and Sasha pairing if she weren’t pregnant with Michael’s baby, gross. SB and SM have okay chemistry but they’ve already sullied the potential with these plot choices. Agree with @ranger1rg and @carolineg that the Joss and Cam scenes were awkward and Joss’s vibe seemed way off considering where the character was supposed to be in the moment grief wise. I thought Eden McCoy did good with the last bit of Joss seeing a vision of Dex while snow started falling though. Isaiah and Jordan locked in the steam room felt like a super forced setup but I still enjoy their chemistry. They are really laying on the Gio and Brook Lynn anvils thick lol but I’m glad Brook told him he needed a real social life because he’s come off very sheltered and stunted

@DRW50 Gio didn’t have any beef with Sonny, he idolized him and continues to do so. I have 0 attachment to this Cameron since I wasn’t watching when he was on but the family reunion for Liz was nice to see. All of those concerns about this Aidan looking too old were made moot today since he looked believable as being the younger brother. I did want some deeper stuff with Cam and Lucky and I’m disappointed the show didn’t play some tension there but I did like them singing together at the end. Drew stalking Willow at Jordan’s event was gross and I loved Jordan’s open disdain for him and running interference with Felicia. I liked her stuff with Isaiah too. Curtis has been entertaining me now that he’s not letting Drew and Michael walk all over him in business. Glad he made Michael make him CEO before they tanked the Auroa stock for the takeover. Jason telling Carly not to go after Willow and Drew was funny because you already know she ain’t gonna listen 😂 I want her to destroy them tbh I like Nina’s new house set and I’m ready for her and Carly to go to war for their kids and grandkids Trina and Josslyn’s scenes dealing with their mutual dead boyfriend grief…this Dex death just feels very hollow for me and I don’t care at all.

I loved JJ and the writers trolling the audience back with the line about Lucky needing a shower 😂 perfect line delivery. Those Lucky/Liz/Ric scenes were fantastic, I like Liz getting all of this attention from her exes trying to play hero and JJ and Rick H have solid adversarial chemistry. Lulu vs Brook Lynn was 🔥 certain characters should never like each other no matter what and these two fit the bill for me. I gotta give this round to Brook Lynn since Lulu did come off a bit stuck in the past and Brook Lynn’s surprise attack by bringing up her current friendship with Maxie was hilarious. We got some more anvils about Gio’s paternity and Cody and Lulu scenes which I really liked, Dante seemed jealous already. I also didn’t know that room in the Q mansion still existed as a set. I like it better than the tacky grey room sets they always use so I hope they showcase this one more often. I swear they refurbish the same script for Tracy every two weeks, how many times are she and Sasha gonna do this same dance? That said I did feel for Sasha mourning her old boyfriend and baby with Sonny even though I didn’t even see any of that story. The scene with Tracy at the end was nice and Sidwell popping up was funny but why the hell is he even still around? I have no use for Laura and her brothers. Martin suggesting they use Cyrus to help find Charlotte just sounded dumb to me and MEK’s antics get old after a couple of episodes. Speaking of tired oh look Anna’s crying again 🙄 I actually did like her scenes with Jason and Sonny but they need to tell Finola Hughes to chill out on the water works at this point, the emotion is too much sometimes. Jason and Spinelli taking over the search for Valentin and Charlotte makes sense and I like Spinelli’s motivation. Hopefully we get some scenes with him and Lulu soon.

@Antoyne cosigning that Lulu and Tracy’s reunion and Carly vs Nina and Willow were the highlights of the episode for me. AH and JE had instant chemistry and mind melded me into believing I was back in 2006 watching Tracy and Lulu connecting again. This and Rocco were definitely my favorite of Lulu’s reunions thus far. This might be the first time since I’ve tuned back in that Carly actually feels authentic in scorched earth mode too, loved her vs Nina and Willow with the kids awkwardly in the middle. I still think the show has done itself a huge disservice not allowing Michael to stand in his own anger and vengeance. The explanation of him not wanting to traumatize his and Willow’s kids the same way Carly and Sonny did him and Morgan by constantly fighting over custody worked for me but only because I watched during that era. They could have at least let him rage out on Drew but we didn’t even get that, thank God Tracy and Ned got some good digs in at least. Eden McCoy, Kristina Wagner and Finola Hughes did nice work reacting to Dex’s death but I was just never invested in the character enough so it all rang flat for me. I did like Jason being there for Joss though. I do love Lucky supporting Liz in the aftermath but I had to laugh at the ridiculousness of Portia letting him sit in on a serious HR meeting, that would never happen IRL.

GH: Actor out!
Part of me thought this was gonna end up a sting operation, still kind of do tbh. If not EH is going about this exit the right way by not leaking stuff and rage baiting fans like others have. GH gets a lot of engagement clicks on these outlets too so EH is smart to book every interview he can to boost his profile. I could see him on Days or in the Lifetime/Hallmark movie circuit.

They delivered the shock and entertainment today lol Was not expecting Dex to actually die I thought for sure he’d land in a coma. Bravo to the show and actor for not spoiling the surprise. Eden McCoy and Finola Hughes did solid work outside of his room while the staff tried to save Dex and so did Rebecca Herbst with the final scene contemplating how this could have happened. I never truly cared for the character so good riddance and I expect Joss will get Natalia’s son for a love interest next. The fall out from the video reveal was great. Laura Wright, Jane Elliott and Wally Kurth carried the load here and did it well. Ned and Tracy cackling then reading Drew the riot act alongside BrookLynn was chefs kiss. Carly ripping Willow a new one after she tried shifting the blame to Michael for even having the video then going off on Drew was what I was waiting for 🔥 Then the ending with Carly catching Nina and Willow trying to run off with the kids? Love it, this is how I like my Caroline giving people HELL. Shout out to Cynthia Watros for the way she delivered the “This is war” warning line to Willow too. Its unfortunate Michael is still written like such a simp because he felt like a background player the whole episode. I guess the writers were just as bored of Chad Duell as he has looked onscreen. I hope they ditch the forced Trina aggravation at Kai for good because they were so much more interesting to watch today, loved the chemistry between them now that she’s not being such a nag. Lulu and Dante also had some great scenes, I loved how they addressed Sam’s death and the banter over her breaking into Wyndemere. I could rock with this version of Lante if they go there LOL’d at both Ric and Ava’s cards declining and Lucas having to come save them. This Cassadine’s stealing their money back plot could be interesting depending on who they have being behind it. Solid episode overall I’m excited for Monday

I enjoyed the Q party for Jane Elliott, Cynthia Watros and Laura Wright taking what they were given and running with it. I despise the one note nuisance way Tracy has mostly been written since CVE’s return but JE is always entertaining. I really loved the way LW played Carly circling in on Willow and Michael too, immediately peeping that something was wrong with them and trying to get answers from Olivia was classic mama bear Carly. Her annoyance with Nina was funny too and CW did nice work when Drew was so nasty to Nina by the Q staircase. We got more Gio being BrookLynn’s kid anvils and this episode was the first time I noticed how much the actors look a like. The football stuff was an okay way to get everyone around the tv but it definitely felt ham fisted. @ranger1rg I hadn’t even thought of the show copying All American for Kai and Trina but I think you are spot on with that, wow 😂 The nanny cam video reveal was kind of clunky and I wish Michael had done it on purpose instead of Tracy awkwardly messing with the phone and screen casting it to the tv on accident. The show continues to run from Michael doing anything real villainous and I just don’t get it, especially considering recent news. Hopefully the fallout in the next episode is played out well. I liked seeing Alexis finally be stern with Kristina when it comes to Molly but she still ended up kowtowing. Ava having insufficient funds was hilarious. Part of me thinks its not Sonny but Ric behind all of this as a revenge circle back for Molly which I’m absolutely fine with. Sonny and Natalia continue to bore but I see they brought her son up again. New character otw? I’m guessing Cyrus hit Dex with a dose of digitalis and thats why the machines went off towards the end of the show. Poor Elizabeth left holding the gun again. 😭 I don’t expect him to be killed off but I wouldn’t shed a tear if he was.

I loved the Lulu scenes with Jack, Carly and Maxie. The Spencer cousins tag teaming Brennan was cool to see and I’m glad Carly got to be the one to tell her about Bobbie’s death. KS and AH also had instant BFF chemistry, I loved Lulu running to hug Maxie and her reaction to Spixie being back together. Anna and Jason kidnapping Martin no Tad for info on Valentin was funny but I’m sick of Anna pointing the finger at everybody else when she’s the one who let the man escape with Charlotte. Glad Spinelli and Brennan are already narrowing evidence of his location down, this story doesn’t have too many legs left for me. I actually enjoyed Jordan/Curtis/Portia today, they haven’t played up the tension between these three at all the last year which was odd because they were all in a weird quad with Portia’s brother the last time I dipped my toe into the show prior to PM joining. I’m glad Curtis is going after Drew and getting supported. Isaiah and Jordan continue to be a nice pairing as well but you can tell the writers are stalling on moving forward with any real romance so they can keep them compartmentalized to the background should they see a shinier prospect for Isaiah. Nina and Drew are back to being more vicious with each other again which I’m glad to see, the new regime had removed so much of their bite which was a wrong choice. He ain’t shite for trying to use her to placate Curtis. I liked her earlier scenes with Maxie talking about Lulu and being in long term comas as well I can’t blame Joss for suspecting Sonny for getting Dex stabbed since he was on his head for months. Part of me does hope he gets a strong dose of digitalis because they are just so boring as a couple to me. As for the OLTL and AMC references I don’t mind them but can see how they feel semi cheap and tired for others. I would only want a La Lucci cameo if the AMC revival movies or a show actually gets off the ground and they wanted to cross promote but I doubt Frank could afford her.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
@Manny you weren’t lying about today’s show. The last few episodes have been pretty good but this was absolutely outstanding. I love the way they used Linda, Phil, and Lauren’s mutual alcoholism to showcase them all hitting new lows in their current addictions of choice. Brilliantly devastating the way they tied their journeys together. Linda has been a mess for ages but they’ve really kicked it into high gear. She’s legit hit rock bottom and Kellie Bright is playing it all to the hilt. You can’t even blame everyone for being fed up and turning their backs on her at this point (though Elaine, Bernie and Johnny will forever be on my crap list for their enabling). It was so sad to see her running around town stealing bottles, scaring her kids, ruining the Christmas fun, getting Sharon robbed, going off on Alfie, pissing on herself, fighting with Johnny and getting kicked out. Its real alcoholism journey stuff but man is it heartbreaking to watch. Steve McFadden has been smoking this Phil depression storyline. The embarrassment on Phil’s face earlier this week when Nicola saw all of the trash sitting around his house and even today when he and Sharon walked in on yet another Mitchell gathering he’d been excluded from and Nicola clowning on them both was expertly played. So were the scenes with Sharon pleading with him to take care of himself. I can’t help but like the guy even when he’s being a mean old abusive hardman because you know where it all stems from and he does have a heart. Cindy getting pregnant Lauren hooked on pills has been outrageous lol, and I like the added layer of Ravi being Cindy’s dealer and Nicola now his main plug. Lauren is not at all one of my favorites but I loved how she and Phil got Linda out of the Christmas event and gave her the real. I was actually sad it didn’t work and Johnny had to kick Linda out. That last segment with no one actually going to the AA meeting they agreed they all needed and Lauren popping another pill instead, Phil going off on Jay & pouring out the bottle Nicola gave him while sitting alone in the dark of his house, and Linda just passing out on the bench drunk as hell and all of the Christmas lights going dark was great stuff. This is the only soap on air for me that still knows how to pull at your emotions correctly.
