Re SFT ratings on NBC 81-82 3.4 82-83 2.7 83-84 3.2 84-85 3.3 85-86 2.9 By the last season,I'm sure affiliates were dropping the show,so it was probably impossible for the show to build on ratings at that point. Robert Lupone is a fine actor,but to cast him as a hero was a mistake. i think they were looking for a Tony Geary type but that was a one off thing that couldn't be replicated. AW made the same mistake by casting him as Neal Cory.

Thank you so much for that information regarding Amy Hughes.That is something I have never seen detailed before. According to old cast lists Irene Yah Lung Sun played Amy. In the late 70's she was on Love of Life as Kim,the lost love of Tony and an obstacle to Bambi and Tony's romance. I believe that Wiliam Prince and Augusta Dabney played Mr and Mrs Parsons. Christopher Hastings was Peter,Eugenia Rawls was Grace and Laurie Heinemann was Marion Graham Burton. What was Marion's connection to Peter and Grace? When the Soderbergs took over what characters were dropped and introduced? It seems Amy,the Burtons and Rick were dropped and Grant,Joyce,Giland Jay Stallings were introduced. Am I missing any? Konrad Matthei was the first Grant.How long did he last? It seems odd he was cast as he had played Roy McGuire for a few years in the late 60's and surely viewers would still remember him.

The problem with Joanna Lee's SFT was another round of character's were introduced with no real connection to what went before. Sometimes this can work,but more often than not,viewers are wary. Re-introducing Tom and Danny was a good start,except the actors and story weren't strong enough. Gary and Laine's return should have happened-there was immediate story there as they shared a child. Maybe Sunny could have fallen for Gary,thus setting up a rivalry between sisters. Patti could have returned at this time,divorced or widowed. There were way too many Kendalls over the years Lloyd,Michael,Steve,Chase,Alec etc

That Judge Lowell pic is obviously from a few years earlier. I always wonder about Ruth Warrick working in soaps in the 50's.She was never a huge movie star,but was the only one I can think of that went to soaps that soon. Did she need the money? Would her 'star' power given her a better contract? Plenty of other movie actors did primetime in the 50's,but not soaps. Or was she just happy to be working regularly in NY and earning a bit of extra cash?

Ray is upset to find Tony at the hospital questioning the staff about Bambi's condition. As Ray is footing Bambi's hospital bills,he feels he should be the one the staff report to. Ray realizes Tony is in love with Bambi. Dr Jessup and Graham implore Ray to find Bambi's next of kin so they can go ahead with a much needed operation.Ray phones Des Moines high school principal for details on Miss Barbara Brewster. Ray is told Bambi is the daughter of Rev Brewster,who still lives in town. As Ray was told by Rev Brewster he has no daughter,Ray decides to head to Des Moines to seek out the truth. Arlene is fearful of Piedro's threats to her family.When Ray tells her he is leaving for Des Moines,she is terrified that Piedro may strike. Ray tries to calm her and suggests she and April stay with his mother while he is away. Mama Gaspero is delighted to have Arlene and April Joy stay with her. In an attempt to help Betsy,Tom meets with Ben to find out how things lay between Betsy and Ben. Ben doesn't take kindly to what he sees as Tom's interference. Bambi's condition worsens. Meg asks Bruce for a job at the campus and is shocked by his anger at what he sees as her taking advantage of his position. Meg tries to explain that she needs something to channel her energies into but Bruce feels it's just another flight of fancy from Meg. Sara then takes Meg to task by acting on a casual comment by the Professor that Bruce will need staff. Meg retorts that once again,she is the bad girl who dared to upset the perfect husband of the perfect daughter.Meg storms off,leaving Sara to ponder how it always seems that she ends up siding against Meg. Betsy opens up to the Professor about her history with Ben and he agrees that perhaps her moving back to England could be a good thing at this time. The Rosehill Arrow sends a reporter to the restaurant to dig up juicy info on Bambi but Tony refuses to have Bambi's reputation sullied in any way. Ray arrives in Des Moines to meet up with Rev Brewster,who denies any knowledge of a so called daughter. Tom isn't pleased that Betsy is considering leaving town. He feels he should talk to Ben and get him to stop Betsy from running away . Mama Gaspero hopes Arlene may be a good influence on her flighty daughter Gina. Despite being impressed with Mia's sincerity in urging her to sort things out with Ben,Betsy is still determined to return to England. Although with Betsy out of the picture,Mia knows she would have a clear path to Ben,she also realizes he doesn't really love her, She tells Ben that it's over between them.At first incredulous,Ben decides that this is for the best and it will give him a chance to take stock. Bambi's condition stabilizes. Dr Graham hopes his'sleeping beauty' will soon awaken. Reporter Muldoon finds it very interesting that Bambi was beaten up in her boss's office for no apparent reason. The hospital staff are annoyed by the reporter's attempts to beat up a scandal about Bambi and worried that drawing attention to her will mean her assailant may try to finish her off. Meg is delighted Mia is out of Ben's life. Now he can move home and she can devote herself to his welfare, Ray visits the newspaper editor to try and find out more about Rev Brewster and Bambi.

I don't recall seeing Bonnie Bartlett as Van before. Carol was never brought back into the story.Maybe when Bruce and Van got together,her desire to re-unite with Carol could have been a good story for them. Did this mag regularly do stories like this? Hope so,and that you have more !

Vinnie got a job with a trucking company and met Millie Parks(Millee Taggart) who worked there. Unbeknownst to Vinnie, Millie was helping the mob by getting Vinnie to transport drugs across state lines without his knowing it. But soon Millie started to fall in love with Vinnie and found it impossible to hurt him. When Vinnie discovered the truth, he found he still loved her and asked her to marry him. Millie could not go through with the wedding and left town.

Before AW she played Maggie Wexler on GL..I don't know anything about that character.Off topic there was also Peter Wexler on at that time and then about 10 years later Lucille and Amanda Wexler came on,but I don't think there was any connection. I wonder if the Dobsons did this intentionally as a reference to Jackie and Emmett Scott and the flak they took for not knowing that Peggy's maiden name was Scott and her family was big in the 60's. She is obviously referring to Ed Bryce and Bill Bauer on GL.Is this story true? The writers didn't have to kill off Bill as he could have been easily written off for a few months until they recast. Maybe the chance presented itself and they decided killing off Bill was the way to go.

She arranges to meet him at a country inn.They are spotted by a furious Ralph,who tells her he should never agreed to Mary's request to keep quiet.When Don returns from his business trip,Ralph plans to expose Joyce. Joyce decides the only way to deal with Ralph is to get rid of him once and for all.She tells Don she wants a gun for protection,as ever since the robbery,she has felt unsafe.Don agrees to her request. Jane is being blackmailed by both John and Melinda over the fact that Beau is unaware he is adopted.John wants money and power and Melinda wants Beau.Pregnant with Beau's child,Melinda wants Jane to break up Beau and Annie's marriage. Jane is doing their bidding by arranging for John to meet important people, and by sowing seeds of discontent with Beau and Annie.She tells Beau Annie doesn't want a child and that her career is more important than her marriage. Sending Jay away on a business trip,Hank makes a move on Carol.Fending of his drunken advances,Carol smashes a bottle over Hank's head. Annie is surprised by her husband's stance,unaware that he sought advice from Jane, who reluctantly encouraged him to make objections, saying if he gives into Annie on this,she will continue to make demands. Annie refuses the job but is resentful and wonders if Beau is the man she thought he was. Doug has made an enemy of John by calling a halt to all research projects, thus preventing John from making a name for himself with the rich and powerful. John goes to Jane and request she speak to Doug's boss, and her good friend, Dr Endicott and request that John's project go ahead.John is sure that Jane's financial contributions to the hospital will result in things going his way. Carolee is driving in the raging storm,while Doreen is at the Medicine Man establishing her alibi. A strange man pulls a gun on a terrified Carolee and they drive to a secluded cabin. She's told he is being paid to do this.He tells Carolee all about herself. She is wondering who could be behind this. Kim makes a move on Billy and Luke. Steve is worried about Carolee being out in the storm but cannot recall the patient's name. He decides to head to the hospital to get more info. Doreen as 'Dorothy' meets up with Mel and is delighted all is going to plan.She will confront Carolee and let her know that Carolee is keeping Steve from her. Steve calls in the police as everyone tries to make sense of Carolee's disappearance. Doreen visits Steve to offer support. Matt has called in a specialist for Mike who is bitter and doesn't think it will help.The doctor questions Mike about the accident and Mike realizes that Sara moving him may have caused his paralysis. Bettina,wife of Mike's roommate Hank,talks to Sara and encourages her not to give up as their love will get them through.Sara knows that at this point Mike hates her. Carolee's car has been located with no sign of her. Steve is now very afraid. Doreen visits Carolee, who tries to make her see what she is doing is wrong.Doreen lashes out and Carolee realizes how deluded she really is.She tries to work out a way of escape,even offering Mel double what Doreen is paying him. Missy is having nightmares of her drunken father making sexual advances to her. Mel wants to be rid of Carolee but Doreen tells him to wait.Mel refuses until Doreen doubles his fee. Mel wants money now so Doreen contacts her father Evan Fleming to ask for the money.Doreen is sure he will hand it over,as he 'bought' Jason for her.now that she is dying,he should be willing to give her anything. Missy tells Luke she has been seeing a parole officer.She is five years into a nine year parole.Missy says she understands if this is too much for Luke.Luke responds that his past is nothing to be proud of and he thanks Missy for trusting him enough to tell him.
