Empty Nest was pretty much a timeslot hit and NBC seemed to acknowledge that. It ran behind Golden girls for several seasons and when it finally moved up to 9pm both it and GG (moved to 8pm) were no longer ratings powerhouses. Prior to Empty Nest NBC launched 227 and Amen behind GG and both were soon moved to earlier slots to bolster the 8-9 time periods but Empty Nest didn't follow that pattern.

Y&R are showing restraint in dressing Diane - not one shot yet of her in a one shoulder outfit... but the time will come. I hope this story doesn't degenerate into a Phyllis v Diane shriekfest.

There was Jeanne Cooper's account of how Melody just began cold blocking her which went on for years until they began talking again. No real explanation from either side.

This story is doomed from the start. I say that because the premise is awful and we are talking Josh Griffith here. How about a new character with a blank slate to work from instead of having to jump through hoops to explain yet another resurrection?

So in addition to finally addressing the Keemo situation Y&R doubles down and throws in a 'back from the dead' of an unrelated character. Surely the arrival of Jack's grandchild would have been enough? It would be more logical for Mari Jo Mason to be involved if they wanted to introduce a love interest for Jack.

What is the point of the podcast story? A year from now, will Billy still be rambling on? Or one day, will he decide to do something else and that will be that?

And I think that Roseanne was the first sitcom ever to move to a lead slot-in this case 9 pm- in its first season. Moonlighting was fading at 9pm and having all the bts drama, so ABC moved Roseanne from 8.30 to 9 and created a sitcom block.

Simple explanation..Susan Walters is playing Keemo after he transitions. He deliberately had surgery to look like Diane just to freak Jack out.

The UK versions George and Mildred and Robin's Nest were both successes. Did the US versions use any of the scripts or just get the rights to the concept? All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Three's Company and Too Close for Comfort were all based on successful UK sitcoms but several others were tried and failed.

Of all the characters to bring back... From the get go, this is a pass for me. For a story to begin with some convoluted explanation of how Diane didn't die or to have a lookalike. Feels like the Patty mess all over again. Happy to be proven wrong.

Makes sense to me. Just the sort of story Y&R does.
