  1. Fox has forgotten that they built their network off the backs of the African-American audience. Fox always claims that their first big hits were Married with Children, The Simpsons, 90210, Melrose, and X Files, but they seem to forget about In Living Color, Martin, Living Single, and New York Undercover. The shift with Fox was 1993, 1994 with peak 90210, Melrose taking off, X Files premiering, and getting NFL broadcasting rights.
  2. So true. Agree. Yes, the recasting was ridiculous.
  3. That was when ABC got Aaron Spelling off their network and he took his talents to Fox.
  4. Did anyone like CW Dynasty? I thought it was designed for the Google generation to binge watch.
  5. OK, that's fair. Keep us posted on your thoughts as you watch.
  6. JR was the breakout character that became a pop culture phenomenon. Dallas was Larry Hagman's career resurgence and JR Ewing was his second signature role or some may say his career-defining role.
  7. How far into the show are you planning to watch?
  8. Dallas was the most male-focused of the 1980s primetime soaps and I think it was because Dallas at its heart and roots was a western. When you view Dallas through today's standards, the masculine energy is quite off-putting.
  9. Dallas was effectively over with Sue Ellen departure. The final two seasons were a waste of time. Hahaha, that's funny.
  10. It was a pattern across all three CBS primetime soaps when the budget issues began to salary dump the long-time (as in those who were part of the original cast or introduced in the first two seasons) female cast members. Dallas was the worst offender because by the final season no long-time female cast members were left in the main cast.
  11. Some have said before that Eileen Davidson was playing Kelly Capwell as though she was both Capwell daughters as one character. Oddly enough, I thought that about Eileen's replacement on Y&R, Brenda Epperson, in that there were times it felt like she was playing both Abbott daughters as one character. Of Eileen Davidson's three main soap roles, Y&R Ashley and Days Kristen are considered iconic but I don't think I've encountered a Santa Barbara viewer that holds her run as Kelly in high regard.
  12. CBS and P&G were shaken by 1978-1982 ABC big three huge rise and domination, that's why so many changes to the shows in that era.
  13. A diva hair toss? I can't remember the last diva hair toss on BtG. Chelsea maybe in a photoshoot early in the show's run.
  14. Jenna trial was the main story in the March 1985 episodes. So your timeline has tanking starting with Jenna trial and going off the rails sometime in Season 9? Season 9 saw Dallas venturing into international intrigue but that didn't work. Angelica Nero was straight out of a James Bond movie.
  15. Yes, there was a ratings drop starting March 1985, but I think tanking started in the aftermath of Bobby car accident. That March 1985 rating drop lead to Dallas losing #1 to Dynasty and we also saw Murder, She Wrote season 1 finale shock the world.
  16. Jibre Hordges is from Georgia so that could be his natural speaking voice.
  17. Dallas went off the rails in the aftermath of Pamela disappearance. In the grand scheme of things, Victoria Principal was smart to walk away when she did. She clearly stacked her Dallas coins and then built her skincare brand.
  18. Yellowstone main setting was a cattle ranch. This is a really good take on both the original series and the reboot series.
  19. @asafi Thank you for sharing that article.
  20. Do you think that Yellowstone is what TNT Dallas should have been?
  21. I really admire those who stuck through the final 15 years. In my online viewing I skipped ahead from Nancy Curlee departure in March 1994 to Michael Zaslow last episode in April 1997 to clip sets of Annie Dutton psycho turn (witness stand breakdown, overdose, exit storyline). I didn't watch anything past Annie Dutton parachuting off the plane.
  22. I think we can say that about P&G on the whole. We know P&G was shaken by 1978-1982 ABC big three huge rise and domination. P&G was shaken again by Reilly Days blowing up in the aftermath of OJ but then again the P&G shows were not in a good place creatively at the start of OJ in June 1994.
  23. TNT Dallas was pretty much done when Larry Hagman passed away.
  24. 1980/81 and 1981/82 GL was CBS's highest-rated daytime drama. Yes, the Marland years held their own against massive pop culture phenomenon General Hospital, but they were also helped by Y&R being in their post-expansion slump.
  25. Both were daughters of landowners so perhaps Angela saw a younger version of herself in Melissa.
