  1. Looking back on everything that went down off screen and on screen during the first 10 years of Y&R, it's amazing that Y&R survived it's first decade and then thrived during it's next 15 years (save for Cricket eating the show summer 1986 to end of 1989, Nick/Sharon eating the show fall 1994 to early 1996, and the lull of fall 1996 to summer 1997).
  2. https://sports.yahoo.com/what-has-been-the-biggest-threat-to-the-nba-bubble-louwill-lemon-pepper-bbq-wings-162237418.html Firstly, how is a strip club even open and secondly, who goes to a strip club for food?
  3. @amybrickwallace That is wonderful news. So glad for you 🤗
  4. I don't think Victor interacted on screen with Vanessa/Lance/Lucas at all. Even if Victor did interact w/ Vanessa, I'm sure he would recognize her as someone not to mess with. Side note, I think John McCook was already gone from Y&R when Eric Braeden joined the cast.
  5. So Lance and Prentiss Industries were precursors to Victor and Newman Enterprises. Later in 1976 is the arrival of Vanessa Prentiss. Can't wait to read about her storyline in detail.
  6. I hadn't visited that YT channel in a while but sad to read that it is gone. It was online for a long time, I wonder why now it got shut down.
  7. CBS/Sony have no idea what a gold mine they are sitting on with respect to 1970s/1980s/1990s Y&R.
  8. @soapfan770 @Darn That casting call for Sophia is like a checklist of every stereotype of Black American females. Way to go MAB
  9. It's funny that Robert Clary played characters named Pierre on both Y&R and B&B.
  10. I remember reading somewhere that B&B took off in almost all of Europe whereas the only European country Y&R became a big hit in was France. As far as other countries where both were exported, I've also read Y&R was bigger in Israel and Turkey, and both were big in Australia. Bradley Bell was in charge by the time of the Catalina Island crossover (fall 1993). The first rumors of 1 hour expansion were in late 1994/early 1995; Lauren moved to B&B in the fall of 1995.
  11. In this era of TikTok and Spotify, is the Billboard Hot 100 even relevant anymore?
  12. Fall 1994 through to the beginning of 1996 was when Nick and Sharon ate the show. I remember JC ranting to the soap press in that period about her lack of story, the focus on the younger cast members, and the male backside scenes. If I only I could find her interviews from that period.
  13. Was Y&R head-to-head with Oprah and/or Days in Seattle at that time? I don't think Y&R was attracting the kids after school in 1995-1997 as that was the height of Reilly Sci-Fi Days. Imagine if a city had a 4 pm/3 pm head-to-head lineup of Y&R, Days, Oprah. Edited to add: I found another 1980s listing for Seattle. Monday June 27, 1988 KIRO (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light As we already know, no B&B. KOMO (ABC) 11 am Ryan's Hope 11:30 am Loving Noon All My Children 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital KING (NBC) 1 pm Another World 2 pm Santa Barbara 3 pm Days So sometime between June 1986 and June 1988, Days moved from Noon to 3 pm. It was still the supercouple era so lots of kids must have been watching after school. It's possible the 3 pm airing might have gone on through to the Reilly sci-fi years. Another edit: I suspected Portland, OR was another Northwest city that didn't carry B&B from the beginning and I found two listings that confirm that suspicion. Wednesday September 13, 1989 KOIN (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light KATU (ABC) 11:30 am Loving Noon Live with Regis and Kathie Lee 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital 3 pm All My Children KGW (NBC) 12:30 pm Generations 1 pm Another World 2 pm Santa Barbara 3 pm Days Tuesday December 21, 1999 KOIN (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 12:30 pm Extra! 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light KATU (ABC) 12:30 pm Port Charles 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital 3 pm All My Children KGW (NBC) 1 pm Sunset Beach 2 pm Passions 3 pm Days
  14. @soapfan770 So B&B from 1987-1994 was too scandalous and shocking but the rest of the CBS lineup wasn't? B&B was exported to countries that many would think are religious/conservative (ie. Israel, Egypt, Turkey, India). IMO KIRO just didn't want to give up their 1 hour noon news. Given what we know about ABC Daytime being big in the Northeast and West Coast, Seattle probably fits more as an ABC town anyway.
  15. I finally came across another 1980s Seattle listing. Friday June 27, 1986 KIRO (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light An earlier post in this thread had Search for Tomorrow airing in Seattle in 1981. With no Capitol airing in Seattle in 1986 and B&B not airing in Seattle until 1994, it seems more likely that KIRO had a 1 hour Noon News from 1982-1994. KOMO (ABC) 11 am Ryan's Hope 11:30 am Loving Noon All My Children 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital KING (NBC) Noon Days 1 pm Another World 2 pm Santa Barbara With no Search for Tomorrow airing in Seattle in 1986, it either disappeared from Seattle TV after the CBS cancellation or the NBC affiliate aired it then dropped it.
  16. @soapfan770 It looks like CBS allowed two different February 4, 1980-June 5, 1981 schedules for their Central/Mountain/Pacific affiliates. As we all know, ABC had a huge rise in the late 1970s and that seemed to really shake up CBS, thus the time slot changes in 1980 and 1981. I found this official CBS schedule for April 23, 1979-February 1, 1980. 11 am ET/10 am CT, MT, PT The Price is Right Noon ET/11 am CT, MT, PT Y&R 12:30 pm ET/11:30 am CT, MT, PT Search for Tomorrow 1 pm ET/Noon CT, MT, PT Local Programming 1:30 pm ET/12:30 pm CT, MT, PT As the World Turns 2:30 ET/1:30 pm CT, MT, PT Guiding Light 3:30 pm ET/2:30 pm CT, MT, PT M*A*S*H reruns 4 pm ET/3 pm CT, MT, PT Love of Life It seems silly to me that CBS separated Love of Life from the rest of the daytime drama block unless it was done purposely to tank the show. CBS's ratings for 1979/1980 were Y&R 8.8 (3rd), Guiding Light 8.3 (5th), As the World Turns 7.9 (6th), Search for Tomorrow 7.6 (7th), Love of Life 3.5 (13th); General Hospital and All My Children were the top 2 and One Life to Live was 4th. The early 1980s were not too kind to CBS ratings-wise. 1980/1981: Guiding Light 8.2 (4th), As the World Turns 7.9 (5th), Y&R 7.8 (6th), Search for Tomorrow 6.3 (8th). ABC's big three General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live were the top 3 and Ryan's Hope was 7th. Guiding Light and As the World Turns kept close to the same number but Y&R and Search for Tomorrow had big drops. 1981/1982: Guiding Light 8.0 (4th), Y&R 7.4 (5th), As the World Turns 7.4 (5th), Search for Tomorrow 6.8 (8th), Capitol 5.8 (9th). ABC's big three General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live were the top 3 and Ryan's Hope was 7th. Y&R dropped for the second straight season, As the World Turns dropped a little, Search for Tomorrow increased but CBS still ended it, and Guiding Light kept close to the same number. 1982/1983: Y&R 8.0 (4th), As the World Turns 7.6 (5th), Guiding Light 7.4 (6th), Capitol 6.0 (7th). Y&R has a big increase and becomes CBS's #1 daytime drama, As the World Turns goes up a little, Guiding Light has a big drop. ABC's big three General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live were the top 3 . During the rest of the 1980s Y&R would topple the ABC big three one-by-one, eventually reaching #1 overall in 1988/1989.
  17. @soapfan770I might be wrong on the February 4, 1980-June 5, 1981 official schedule for Central/Mountain/Pacific as I found two conflicting CBS affiliate lineups from some research. KMGH (Denver), Monday April 7, 1980 11:30 am Search for Tomorrow Noon Y&R 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light KREM (Spokane, WA), Tuesday April 29, 1980 11 am Y&R 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light If I was able to find more listings I could get a better idea as to what the February 4, 1980-June 5, 1981 official schedule for Central/Mountain/Pacific actually was.
  18. Once CBS set their soap block at 3 1/2 hours, the official schedules were like this I think Monday February 4, 1980- Friday June 5, 1981 Eastern time: 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 1 pm Y&R 2 pm As the World Turns 3 pm Guiding Light Central/Mountain/Pacific Time: 11 am Y&R 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light Monday June 8, 1981-Friday March 26, 1982 Eastern time: 12:30 pm Y&R 1:30 pm As the World Turns 2:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 3 pm Guiding Light Central/Mountain/Pacific Time: 11 am Y&R 12:30 pm As the World Turns 1:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 2 pm Guiding Light Monday March 29, 1982-Friday March 20, 1987 Eastern time: 12:30 pm Y&R 1:30 pm As the World Turns 2:30 pm Capitol 3 pm Guiding Light Central/Mountain/Pacific Time: 11 am Y&R 12:30 pm As the World Turns 1:30 pm Capitol 2 pm Guiding Light Monday March 23, 1987-Friday September 18, 2009 Eastern time: 12:30 pm Y&R 1:30 pm B&B 2 pm As the World Turns 3 pm Guiding Light Central/Mountain/Pacific Time: 11 am Y&R 12:30 pm B&B 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light
  19. Australia must not have been that far behind if they are also airing repeats. From that French site Soap Passion, the last episode aired in Switzerland was on May 1 (CBS airdate January 30) and no indication of any episodes broadcast there after May 4. France is airing episodes from March 2019 and Luxembourg is airing episodes from May 2019.
  20. I've fallen down the rabbit hole of looking at ratings, EP, HW, time slot history for CBS's daytime dramas. For As the World Turns, I looked through 1978/1979 (the year they lost #1) to 1994/1995 (the year of OJ and P&G's EP swap) and I compiled this history. 1978/1979: 8.2 (4th). EP change from Joe Willmore to Joe Rothenberger in December 1978. HW change from Robert Soderberg and Edith Sommer to Ralph Ellis and Eugenie Hunt in December 1978. 1979/1980: 7.9 (6th). HW change from Ralph Ellis and Eugenie Hunt to Douglas Marland in Fall 1979. HW change from Douglas Marland to Jerome and Bridget Dobson in December 1979. EP change from Joe Rothenberger to Fred Bartholomew in early 1980. Time slot change from 1:30 pm ET to 2 pm ET on February 4, 1980. 1980/1981: 7.9 (5th). HW change from Jerome and Bridget Dobson to Paul Roberts in April 1981. Time slot change from 2 pm ET to 1:30 pm ET on June 8, 1981. HW change from Paul Roberts to Tom King and K.C. Collier in August 1981. 1981/1982: 7.4 (tied w/ Y&R for 5th). EP change from Fred Bartholomew to Mary-Ellis Bunim in October 1981. HW change from Tom King and K.C. Collier to Jerome and Bridget Dobson in January 1982. 1982/1983: 7.6 (5th). HW change from Jerome and Bridget Dobson to Carolyn Franz and John Saffron in May 1983. 1983/1984: 7.9 (6th). Co-HW change from Carolyn Franz to Tom King in December 1983. Co-HW change from John Saffron to Millee Taggart in April 1984. 1984/1985: 7.1 (tied w/ Days for 6th): EP change from Mary-Ellis Bunim to Robert Calhoun in October 1984. HW change from Tom King and Millee Taggart to Cynthia Benjamin and Susan Bedsow Horgan in November 1984. Susan Bedsow Horgan becomes sole HW in February 1985. 1985/1986: 6.7 (7th): HW change from Susan Bedsow Horgan to Douglas Marland in September 1985. 1986/1987: 7.0 (tied w/ All My Children and Days for 4th). Time slot change from 1:30 pm ET to 2 pm ET on March 23, 1987. 1987/1988: 6.6 (6th). Writer's strike March-August 1988. 1988/1989: 6.4 (6th). EP change from Robert Calhoun to Laurence Caso in October 1988. 1989/1990: 5.8 (5th) 1990/1991: 5.9 (4th) 1991/1992: 5.8 (tied w/ General Hospital for 3rd) 1992/1993: 5.7 (5th). Douglas Marland passes away March 6, 1993. Juliet Law Packer and Richard Backus become HWs. 1993/1994: 5.8 (5th) 1994/1995: 5.1 (7th). January 1995 co-HW change from Richard Backus to Garin Wolf and Richard Culliton. EP change from Laurence Caso to John Valente in May 1995.
  21. From some further research, the big ratings drop seemed to start in the mid-1980s. 1979/1980: 8.3 (5th). HW change from Jerome and Bridget Dobson to Douglas Marland in December 1979. Time slot change from 2:30 pm ET to 3 pm ET on February 4, 1980. Michael Zaslow departs in April 1980. 1980/1981: 8.2 (4th) 1981/1982: 8.0 (4th) 1982/1983: 7.4 (6th). HW change from Douglas Marland to Pat Falken Smith in October 1982. HW change from Pat Falken Smith to L. Virginia Browne in November 1982. EP change from Allen Potter to Gail Kobe in February 1983. HW change from L. Virginia Browne to Richard Culliton and Pamela Long in February 1983. 1983/1984: 8.1 (5th). Pamela Long becomes sole HW in September 1983. Kim Zimmer joins the cast in November 1983. Beverlee McKinsey joins the cast in February 1984. 1984/1985: 7.5 (4th) 1985/1986: 6.8 (6th). EP change from Gail Kobe to Joe Willmore in January 1986. HW change from Pamela Long to Jeff Ryder in January 1986. Mary Ryan Munisteri becomes co-HW in February 1986. 1986/1987: 6.3 (7th). Co-HW change from Jeff Ryder to Ellen Barrett in September 1986. HW change from Mary Ryan Munisteri and Ellen Barrett to Joseph Manetta in October 1986. Sheri Anderson becomes co-HW in November 1986. HW change from Joseph Manetta and Sheri Anderson to Pamela Long in July 1987. 1987/1988: 6.2 (7th). Writer's strike March-August 1988. 1988/1989: 6.2 (7th). Michael Zaslow returns in January 1989. EP change from Joe Willmore to Robert Calhoun in June 1989.
  22. A look back at Y&R's 1980s ratings and the rise to #1. 1979/1980: 8.8 (3rd). February 4, 1980 expand to 1 hour and time slot change from noon ET to 1 pm ET. 1980/1981: 7.8 (6th). June 8, 1981 time slot change from 1 pm ET to 12:30 pm ET. 1981/1982: 7.4 (tied w/ As the World Turns for 5th). March 1982 EP change from John Conboy to H. Wesley Kenney. 1982/1983: 8.0 (4th) 1983/1984: 8.8 (3rd) 1984/1985: 8.1 (3rd) 1985/1986: 8.3 (2nd) 1986/1987: 8.0 (2nd). November 1986 EP change from H. Wesley Kenney to Ed Scott. 1987/1988: 8.7 (tied w/ General Hospital for 1st) 1988/1989: 8.1 (1st)
  23. I enjoyed the Robert Calhoun era but for whatever reason, there was a ratings drop during his tenure. 1988/1989: 6.2 (7th). Robert Calhoun takes over as EP in June 1989. 1989/1990: 5.4 (tied w/ Days for 7th). Kim Zimmer departs July 1990. 1990/1991: 5.2 (tied w/ Days for 7th). HW change from Pamela Long to Nancy Curlee in January 1991. Big cast purge during January and February 1991. JFP takes over as EP in July 1991. JFP got the ratings up briefly but the momentum didn't last. 1991/1992: 5.6 (5th). Beverlee McKinsey departs August 1992. 1992/1993: 5.4 (7th). Maureen Bauer killed off January 1993. Buzz arrives March 1993. 1993/1994: 5.4 (8th). Nancy Curlee leaves as HW in March 1994. 1994/1995: 4.4 (8th). The year of OJ. JFP leaves as EP May 1995.
