  1. The big 1980s family sitcom moms: Phylicia Rashad, Meredith Baxter, Judith Light, Joanna Kerns.
  2. Lorie was introduced as the vixen daughter of the main upper class family but by the end of her run, would we have considered her more of an anti-heroine?
  3. Wasn't it rumored that GA and VI had beef BITD? Look at the timelines. Both depart in 1985. GA returns 1987 to February 1991. VI returns July 1991 to February 1996. GA returns April 1996.
  4. Y&R June 26, 1991 Scott Reeves debut. Guiding Light July 8, 1991 Alexandra exposes Roger at the country club. This storyline was the last hurrah of the Robert Calhoun era. Guiding Light July 16, 1991 Vincent Irizarry return. This week was the EP change to JFP. I enjoyed Guiding Light during the Robert Calhoun era and it disappoints me that there was a ratings drop during his run as EP. JFP first year at Guiding Light had a ratings increase as shown in the annual ratings but she was coasting off the groundwork laid during the Robert Calhoun era. Days is making a comeback. Has Deidre Hall returned at this point? I know James Reilly becoming HW is about a year and a half away.
  5. 🤯 That whole storyline was like some sort of take on a classic story that's a tale as old as time.
  6. Controversial take here, but I think black viewers played a big part in NBC's primetime comeback during the second half of the 1980s and NBC was hoping for those viewers to carry over to their daytime line up.
  7. It still has that 1990s coffeehouse vibe.
  8. Nikki married David in 2008 shortly before Victor married Sabrina. Nikki married Deacon in 2011 when she thought Victor had married Meggie.
  9. Linda Gray and Donna Mills were both born in 1940 but holy difference in the aging.
  10. Guiding Light May 27, 1991 Melissa Hayden debut. Y&R June 7, 1991 Nathan and Olivia get married. Y&R is just so ahead of the pack. @Soapsuds will be happy to see As the World Turns in 2nd. CBS entire lineup in the Top 5 🤩 ABC's big three appear to be tanking 🤯
  11. 100% this. High quality writing and acting will always triumph over any big money set design/wardrobe/music.
  12. Crimson Lights has been around for nearly 30 years. I can't remember if that set has been renovated much over the years. The set for Gina's had been around for 30 years before it was retired due to increasing maintenance costs so maybe Crimson Lights might meet that same fate soon.
  13. Larsa Pippen, Marcus Jordan Say Engagement ‘Is in the Works’ (Exclusive) (people.com) Marcus better stack his coins good. He's about to get a reduced role in Michael Jordan estate planning.
  14. Y&R is solid at #1. The bottom three are set at Another World, Santa Barbara, Loving. The remaining seven are jockeying for position.
  15. Y&R is destroying everything in its path. They are so far ahead of everyone. B&B big event: Sally learns she is pregnant (April 25 is the date of this episode on the YT channel but I calculated air date May 20). Guiding Light big events: Roger learns Hart is his son. Mindy has a miscarriage. Alexandra is putting the pieces together about Roger.
  16. I think the shift started earlier than the dream season. 1982/83 Dallas got less modern day western and more corporate. Then 1984/85 Dallas got more glamorous.
  17. Gordon Thomson is Canadian so I wouldn't really consider him foreign.
  18. It was the combination of Bill Bell's writing and EB's acting that made Victor's character arc, from short-term villain to anti-hero/romantic leading man with the backstory of being abandoned as a child and becoming a self-made man, a success. Bill Bell was the only writer that understood Victor as a character. I'd go as far to say that Victor is Bill Bell's greatest male character.
  19. Guiding Light this week: Mindy learns she is pregnant. Nia Long debut. Guiding Light this week: Melina Kanakaredes debut.
  20. Forgot in my previous list, Jaime Lyn Bauer. Shortly after her original Y&R run ended, she was on the short-lived NBC primetime soap Bare Essence. Other primetime roles were guest star on The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Hotel, Knots Landing. She returned to daytime w/ Days.
  21. I don't remember anything being reported in the press of a Bell/Spelling beef but when you factor in the Hunter Tylo lawsuit and the actor swapping between their shows, I can't help but wonder if there was one.
  22. Some of the original cast went on to other soaps, but were they well received in their other roles? William Gray Espy - Another World James Houghton - Knots Landing, The Colbys Janice Lynde - Another World, One Life to Live Those are the ones I know off the top of my head. If any actors/roles are missing please add.
  23. Not to derail this thread, but I thought there might have been some beef between Bill Bell and Aaron Spelling in the late 1990s. This would have been around the time of the Hunter Tylo lawsuit and in that same time frame there was actor swapping among Y&R/B&B and the Spelling shows.
  24. Y&R this week: Cassandra death. Nina shoots David. Lauren gives birth to Scott Jr. Sheila kidnaps Scott Jr. from the hospital, switches him with another baby boy, and passes off Scott Jr. as her own son. Maybe the drop is due to the cast purge from January and February. We're two months into Nancy Curlee run as HW and there's only four months left of Robert Calhoun as EP.
