  1. When it comes to vintage soaps, I have read a lot of completely-contradictory information, from many different sources, over the decades. It's frustrating that we cannot go directly to the episodes themselves for verification. I do know that Eddie Drueding of The Another World Homepage has put decades of research into his site, however. I'd probably trust his information over even my own memory, LOL. Thanks for that link.
  2. Yes, Alice Hirson played Marsha Davis on Somerset. This photograph is of the actress from OLTL, where she played Eileen Riley Siegal, Joe Riley's sister. I've always though Hirson's best role was that of psycho Stephanie Martin on The Edge of Night.
  3. I know you meant Dale and not David. I was only joshing with you. We all have "senior moments" when we write one thing while thinking another. I found this on page 8 of the Somerset thread, by Toml1962: "You can more or less track the changes in direction from the changes in head writers. Contrary to what some on here believe, Cenedella handed down to Slesar after the first year - this fact is well-documented. Slesar came up with the Jasper murder storyline which took upnine months of 1971, and he also came up with the Robert and India divorce,as well as the Davis divorce and Marsha marrying the nefarious Ike Harding, only to see him killed less than a year later: Robert Cenedella (3/1970-12/1970) 1 year Henry Slesar (1/1971-3/1972) 1 year alone Henry Slesar & Jane Lyon (4/1972-6/1973) 1 year Roy Winsor (6/1973-6/1974) 1 year Robert J. Shaw & Winifred Wolfe (6/1974 – 1/1975) 6 months Don Appell (1-6/1975) 6 months A.J. Russell (6-12/1975) 6 months Russell Kubeck (1-12/1976) 1 year" I watched the show live as well, and could have sworn that Kubeck really was Somerset's final head writer (I kept a scrapbook of the show, with articles, synopses and credits), but because I am not 100% sure, I'll take your word about the switch back to Russell. Data available through internet searches only indicates that both writers worked on the show in 1976.
  4. No. Originally introduced on Somerset in 1970, he eventually left that town and returned to Bay City/AW, where he caused all sorts of trouble, and ended up being sent to prison for perjury. That's where we saw him last, in 1974: behind bars.
  5. Ellen became involved with Dale romantically, not David...who was her son. EEEK! Even soaps during the 1970s had their limitations! LOL! I am so glad you gave us this l;ink. I had had the site bookmarked way back then, but then it was closed down and I thought all the data was lost. Thank you! I am almost 100% positive that Russell Kubeck was indeed Somerset's final head writer.

  10. From Afternoon TV Stars (year unknown): UGH! I loathe when the system automatically merges multiple posts together, whether I want them to be combined or not! Sometimes, the merging is illogical and egregious. Is there any way to manually separate the posts once they've been combined? I adored AW as well. It's definitely in my top three favorite soaps of all time, which is quite a feat considering I have watched countless serials over the last several decades. Reinholt certainly developed a reputation for being difficult to work with, although the more we have learned about Paul Rauch (and even Harding Lemay) since the 1970s, I'm sure those men gave as good as they got. There are too many horror stories floating around about Paul Rauch to believe that he was an innocent bystander in any conflict. Since you mentioned enjoying the article about Reinholt leaving AW, I have uploaded a few about Jacquie Courtney's departure from the series.

Another World's 10th Anniversary: Alice remarries Steven (May 3, 1974) From Daily TV Serials, 1974: Jacqueline Courtney Leaves (Gets Pushed Out) of Another World, 1975 Oops, the last line of the paragraph got cut off: "One thing we know for sure, the role of Alice will be recast. Susan Harney has been hired to play the part."
  13. Original Cast Members of The Young and the Restless, 1973: Brenda Dickson (Jill Foster), Janice Lynde (Leslie Brooks), Trish Stewart (Chris Brooks), and Lee Crawford (Sally McGuire) It's hard to believe that TPTB told Trish Stewart she was overweight and needed to slim down. Pffft! Here are summaries of the show's first four years' worth of storylines, as published in Daily TV Serials' Anniversary Issues (in June/July of 1974, '75, '76, '77).
  14. Patricia Everly was lovely but did not have Peters' (or Strangis') innate "cuteness," so I was not surprised when she came and went in the blink of an eye. I wish TBTB had axed Wings Hauser that fast. Strangis probably would have made a better Peggy than Everly did.

  16. I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the thread. It's hard to know what to post; what will interest the SON community, but I am trying to upload material from many different soaps and stars and hope something, anything, hits a bulls-eye with readers. Yes, EM had a daughter, Mary Ann Anderson, whom the actress adopted later on. I spoke to Anderson personally, when she was selling a biography of EM which she had written. Very interesting. That's an apt comparison, comparing Pamela Peters to Judy Strangis. Both young actresses were cute and perky, and quite pleasant to watch in light roles, but I would not cast or expect them to do well in heavier parts, like...Anne Frank or Helen Keller. On Y&R, Peters was appealing as Peggy until she was asked to stretch beyond her range. I definitely wanted her to remain on the show, as part of the Brooks family and as an original cast member, but I preferred when the heavier material rested on more capable shoulders like Trish Stewart, Janice Lynde, Julianna McCarthy, Jeanne Cooper, etc.
