RR was just a poor fit for Alan. Maybe he would've been decent in a different role but he was just way too hammy for Alan. On the bright side, the role of Rusty was a dud and didn't last terribly long. The late 80s needed Hope over duds like Meredith, Rae and Dana. I would've had Hope and either another Reardon sister or a Lainie Marler recast. Appearance wise, Nicolete Goulet's Meredith should've been a Reardon-- I didn't forget that Jim Reardon is also a doctor.

GL was pretty good in 1984. Considering how long NBC let AW die a long and painful death-- GL was still very salvagable thru about '98. The mid-80s just needed P&G to stick with a creative team-- ride it out for consistency. They should've snagged Pat Falken Smith in 1986 or Gary Tomlin- i really enjoyed his mid-80s HW stint at AW.

I wasn't particilarly a Manny fan (they were okay from time to time), but JL's Michelle at least had charisma and chemistry with her costars- all of which NSA severly lacked. We talked about Hope and Stacy. If you needed to recast Mike or Ed, who would you choose? Would Nicholas Coster have been a decent Mike Bauer? Strike that, I just thought of SB's Lionel Lockridge being Gina's dad. I guess its working for Tamara Braun and the guy who plays Noah on Y&R.

I remember that. I recently read that they cast a Beth Bonner as Michelle-- they had a play a small, short role instead. Martha Madison auditioned for Marah years earlier, I believe it was when Lindsey McKeon won the role. I know NSA was technically there as a guest star at the end, it like a wake at the end with past actors paying their respects: Peter simon, Lisa Brown, etc. Michelle would've returned to town without Danny-- i wonder who they would've paired her with?

By the Peapeck era, Rick was useless and was only there because they didn't want to write out the Bauers-- but they might as well have. Phillip wasn't there, sister Michelle wasn't there, Mel was with Cyrus and they didn't bother with a new romantic partner. He was basically OLTL's Larry Wolek-- just there to doctor to people by the end. They should've brought back Mindy (recast for $$$ reasons) for Rick around 2006 or 2007. I'd actually bring in an adult Stacy who I'd have set around Dinah's age.

I'm not familiar, what's the issue here with the name Christina? Is there already a Christina that I'm missing?

I wasn't familiar with RB's rarler run on the show, but I find the actor pretty likeable and seems to blend well in the ensemble. Not every actor has to be Meryl Strrep.

Peter Simon's Ed with Rita would be odd. A pretty solid line in 1981, Mart's Ed was with Rita and Peter's was with Mo. Also, as we discussed many times-- Peter's Ed was a world different than Mart's. Cold. From all that I've seen and read about Rita-- its a damn shame they never brought her back. I'm guessing it took adjusting seeing Peter Simon's Ed and not Mart's, alongside Roger and Holly in '89.

Reminded me of when Roger Howarth took over the role Paul on ATWT. Personally, I liked his OTT portrayal but it was NOT in line with that character's personity to that point. Scott Holroyd definitely did not chew the scenery a d played the role more low-key, while RH was just OLTL's Todd with a haircut.

I meant poached from AMC, after SB ended. She probably wouldn't want to return if offered. GL should've remained aggressive in big casting moves (make the numbers work!). Tognoni was probably the last big soap "name" to come over to GL. P&G gave her the choice between Dinah at GL or Julia (2) on ATWT (which went to Sarah Brown). GT fit right in and won an EMMY (maybe 2?) on GL.

Two LOL vets who may have made a decent Hope recast-- Veleka Gray and Birgitta Tolksdorf. I think SFT's Marcia McCabe could've worked as either a Hope or Trish recast. I would've tried to snag back Robin Mattsen when she was on the East Coast doing AMC. I'm at 1995 on OLTL and KT is Tina, it would've been very soap-like for her Mindy to return as a complication for Rick and Abby. Rick and Mel were a good fit in theory, but half-hearted writing for the couple after the initial health storyline did no favors. Mel should've been a Gilly recast. I liked how Rick and Mel were a doctor couple, but they decided to make her become a lawyer instead. They could've introduced a new doctor or nurse to create a triangle with Rick and mel. Thoughts on Claire Ramsey's 2000 return? The Claire/Rick retcon was a puzzling and creepy choice-- thank goodness they didn't go down that road but it sure looked like they were hinting at it.

I rewatched some of that 30th anniversary episode, that's how you do an anniversary episode! Reminded me of how good this show could be at times. On the account of the anniversary yesterday, what are everyone's favorite moments and characters? John Dixon, natch. Dr. Bob, the older guard in general. John's revenge on Lisa was one of my favorite moments. Another take down moment that was pretty delicious was when Molly exposed Katie at the Endicot Awards. I did a similar list on the GL forum, but its a shame we didn't get grown versions of... Bob's niece, Christina Hughes (Don/Mary) MJ Dixon (John/Ivy) Hope Dixon (Andy/Denise) Daniel Hughes (Tom/Emily) Natalie Snyder (Holden/Lilly) ATWT wasn't nearly as baby crazy as GL, but I probably missed someone. Also, it was before my time but I've heard reference to the Stewart quintuplets? It would've been a good way to re-establish the Stewart clan. It's a shame how the Stewart clan was phased out in the 90s.
