  1. I keep trying to post a NEW video link, but the one I posted a month ago keeps coming up instead. I was trying to post the 2002 "lifesavers" intro and the 1987 50th anniversary promo. https://youtu.be/zNfUq0f9b4A?si=Z2zLnWlD7BqAE8Zs https://youtu.be/MNsv31l5l9g?si=UpeHqHbwPzqEdxeV
  2. There is a destiny that makes us brothers None goes his way alone All that we send into the lives of others Will come back into its own
  3. GL 2002-03 Intro "Fifty Years on Television"
  4. Tomorrow is Guiding Light's TV anniversary. Debuting June 30, 1952.
  5. I was so tempted to go with my mom to the farewell tour when they stopped in Pittsburgh. We Pittsburghers were always a loyal fan base for the show.
  6. Reminds me of when Alan was putting hits on people under the Wheeler era. When Harley was being framed by Alan for Phillip's murder, Alan had a guy killed that Harley/Gus were onto. At least RR's Alan knew enough to hire people to do his dirty work by then.
  7. So your mom was the one person who liked Pilon as Alan! LOL At the time (I as 10) I thought DP was fine as Alan. Looking back on it, he was kinda surly but I'd still take him over Ron Raines in a heartbeat. RR Alan was a joke, a cartoon. It's a wonder he wasn't paired with Carmen Santos who was also a cartoonish "mustache-twirling," villain.

  9. Len Tucker anchors this 1984 afternoon news break that followed an episode of the popular daytime drama "Guiding Light" ending with a baby-naming contest. They hoped to lure younger viewers, but like soaps, comic books were on a steady decline. Marvel had an event called "Civil War" and they had a 50-State Initiative with state sponsored super-heroes in every state. The Guiding Light character looked very similar to then Ms Marvel Carol Danvers appearance. Frankly, I was more of a DC reader myself.
  10. Nothing's wrong with it, its a fine name. It's not one of those overly used names like Kaitlyn, Madison, Beth or Emma.
  11. I don't think it was short term, they just recast Michelle and moved her away from Jesse Blue. Also, the HWs previously wrote for PAS (danny) on Loving. Also, between the mob and d the Island people, Raunch was clearly molding the show in his own image.
  12. I for one loved that GL kept pumping on-screen babies/new legacy characters. It's just a shame they never SORAS'd Peter Reardon, Jason and Kevin Marler, Jude Bauer, RJ (Roger-Joshua) Jessup, Zach Spaulding or Rocky Cooper. They did SORAS James Spaulding, Clarissa Marler and Maureen Reardon II near the end. IIRC, several actresses on GL and ATWT had pregnancies during that decade and while GL would usually write them in while ATWT would more likely come up with ridiculous "outs" like the infamous aging spa. I'm looking forward to you getting to the 60th Anniversary festivities towards the end of January '97!
  13. There was a story reason,it was to bring Luke back to Noah, but TPTB should've changed course when Luke/Reid hit it off with viewers. Goutman was just stubborn, he was the same way when AW ended and said something to the effect that the show was about the here and now and not the past. The shame is ATWT had nine months lead time to do fan service and GL did much more in the third of that time.
  14. Remember the Butterball Turkey Hotline plugs around Thanksgiving?
  15. The Roger scenes at this time are pretty sad now in hindsight as his speech starts slurring at that time as his (not-yet-diagnosed) ALS progresses.
  16. The only good thing about.the clone storyline was Joie Lenz as teen clone Reva (Cleva). I thought RN turned in some good scenes as he was reliving his teen years again seeing reva as a teen again. In hindsight it was totally grooming and came off as gross. I was not a fan of B&E as headwriters.
  17. For years there was speculation or rumors that he was going to be revealed to be alive or that someone else killed him. A way to get Michelle and Drew off the hook.
  18. Holly's final big story was the Sebastian mess in late 2004. Vanessa and Matt were promoted to regulars near the end and were heavily recurring prior to that starting around 2007/2008.
  19. BC played Jeffrey O'Neill, her last husband- the ninth. Yes, April Fools Day 2009 is a date that will live in infamy for GL fans but I feel we all kinda expected it at that point. The soap press reported that GA's return as Phillip was basically the show's final chance at getting the ratings up. A Hail Mary if you will. It didn't extend the show's life but it was fantastic to see Phillip back in SF where he belonged.
  20. Speaking of slaps, there's the infamous Ed slapping daughter Michelle during the Maryanne Carruthers mess in 2003.
  21. I remember it was reported at the time that the character of Noah was originally planned for Harley but plans changed. Beth should've shared her experience as well.
  22. I think I'm leaning towards Team Xander. Phillip screwed him over, tried to cheat him out of his birthright, was he just supposed to roll over and take it? He trusted him and Sarah. Ridiculous!
  23. Lynda Hirsch on Pittsburgh 2Day, 1987 Discussing the end of Capitol, Guiding Light and the writing turmoil is talked about near the end. 6:00: "Alan Spaulding was supposed to have a daughter return, they got rid of that."
  24. Dina was Jack, Ashley and Tracy's mom on Y&R. Joanna was Lauren Fenmore's mother, played by Susan Seaworth-Hayes.
