  1. Reading through the thread, I wanted to mention that at the time USA Today reported that CBS offered to renew ewhart for a final season, but Bob declined-- not wanting to overstay the show's welcome. He probably regretted caving in to do one more season of Bob Newhart Show after deciding to close it out with the wife becoming pregnant (retconned as a dream). He peaced out on about 6 episodes of the final season.
  2. I always found it a bit odd that GL was my favorite soap but I could take or leave Reva, since so much of the the show revolved completely around her. It's nice to see I'm not alone.
  3. @alwaysAMC there's a memorable storyline (slight spoilers.....) in the Summer of 1990, where Alex enlists Holly to prove that Roger's unfaithful. If you can access that, its basically the two of them alone together for a month. You'll just love it. If the vault only goes back to 1992, there's some good roger/Holly stuff after the ross/Blake story begins with the blackout in June. Maybe the blackout would be a good starting point. It was their TV anniversary month and they had a primetime clip show about a week or so prior.
  4. @alwaysAMC you can always learn German and watch all of 1991. 😆
  5. @alwaysAMC any idea where you'll start when you go back? Roger's Return in 89? Reva's exit in 90? January 1990 and complete the decade?
  6. I think Frank was actually well-used in the final year or two when he was the spoilers for Otalia. His first real romance in ages, not counting that dayplayer h@@ker, darcy from the garden of eden arc. Conjob kept putting dayplayers/ minor characters in the forefront. So aggravating! Like mark pinter's 2nd GL character the senator or Colleen dion's madam character.
  7. @alwaysAMC I think in 1995, it was more about expanding B&B and GL was just the low man on the totem pole. Thankfully b&b didn't expand, although it seemed like a logical move at the time. Even when GL was bad in 2001, you'd occasionally get a glimmer of hope like with Taggart/Culliton in 2002 or very early Kreizman in 2004. IMO, the show was cooked when they let JvD walk and LW left for GH around the end of 2005. That and terrible casting choices, which GL used to excel at. There was little rootability by the time they got to Jersey and it became the Jeffrey O'Neil show.
  8. @Mitch64 you really think Lucy was more dull than Frank, Coop or Marina? I liked Lucy, they should've brought her back after Harley left again.
  9. ...also, Its A Living and Too Close For Comfort-- and with lesser results, 9 to 5. Syndicators waited too long with The New WKRP, they should've gone them syndication route 5 years earlier than they did and add them to the syndication package of the original like Fame or Mama's Family did.
  10. This day in 2009, a newly returned Phillip pulled Coop out of a burning car and interrupted Alan and Beth's wedding. Coop was trying to stop the wedding when he wrecked up as he was Beth's lover at the time-- Coop passed away from his injuries.
  11. i got the date off of SOD online and their this day in soap history column.
  12. I'm just glad that they aged up Clarissa during the final months. Weird that Kevin and Jason were nowhere to be seen. Also Frank D's daughter Olivia as an aged up young Maureen. They should've aged up Harley's kids once BE was gone and their was no reason to stunt their growth any longer. It's also funny that they paired Daisy/Susan with Lizzie's little brother who as of 1999 (when her and Lizzie were step-siblings/friends) hasn't even been born yet.
  13. @alwaysAMC today in 1984 was the introduction of Alexandra Spaulding.. February 10, 1984
  14. I've been away from the chat here, what's the updated report of every woman's nail polish state on the show?
  15. I disagree. I think they should've wrote out Blake all together unless they were going to age up her kids. There was no point to the character anymore, her being in a coma for over a year was the evidence. Holly, Ross, Hart, Sebastian and Roger were all.gone. maybe they could've aged up "special needs," half-sister Meg, but that was never going to happen.
  16. @alwaysAMC CHeck this classic episode from February 4, 1980. Roger tormenting Rita in the house of mirrors. Early Marland, this was the year that GL won its first EMMY for best show. This episode was submitted. Great soundtrack too with "Enough." Guiding Light- February 4, 1980
  17. @alwaysAMC yes, it was awkward that Blake wasn't involved more in the Holly slayer. "As Reva Turns"- everything outside the Phillip/Beth/Harley stuff needs to interact with Reva... Odd that it was like a month before anyone told Reva that her only grandchild was in town... they seemed to be having trouble finding someone for Cassie to click with. First Sean, now Jim... who's next, Father Ray? Lol.. Maybe they should've wrote out Holly with Roger and let the character have some dignity. lol again. Nobody has Fletcher's contact information anymore. I liked Lizzie/Susan's friendship. The two actresses have good friend energy. Note that Susan is older than Lizzie, when Susan/Daisy returns around 2005, she'll only be about 16 while Lizzie is a grown woman. Another LOL.
  18. @AlwaysAMC one thing I'd say is the Phillip/Harley/Beth/[redacted] storyline is one of the highlights coming up for you- lasting through 2000. Light spoilers.... August 1999 is noteworthy because its probably the last "classic soap style" remote for GL. They filmed in Puerto Rico for the introduction story for the island people. Unfortunately, you are two years away from Gus-- i kinda liked him even tho he took the role on the show of A-M. But yes, by the end of 1999, the show is totally different with both the mob and the island people basically taking over the whole show. Whatever vets left are just there to prop up the mob/island people. Then B&E leave and there's a writing revolving door until Kreizman in 2004.
  19. @alwaysAMC Here's one with Meg Ryan from when she was on ATWT
  20. @alwaysAMC TPIR- GL themed Showcase, 1985
  21. Don't forget that Fletcher was a bad father as well, look how he basically abandoned Ben and how he turned out.
  22. Most of the original teens on SB- Jade Perkins, et all. The original Santana- especially with her storyline marketed in the run-up promotion. Obviously, the ratings were soft and they had to retool. The original setup with four core families was good soap, but they knew to make adjustments. Hopefully BTG does the same, as we need it to last.
  23. @alwaysAMC I like Hart and Dinah's dramatic exit. They already cycled through numerous Harts, im glad they chose to move on from the character-- espescially with Roger gone. TPTB (Rauch) were upset with both actors leaving together and wanted to make it so they couldn't come crawling back.
  24. In SOD, Hogan Sheffer said he was offered either ATWT or GL. He said something to the effect of, he couldn't relate to GL with the island and far out stuff and ATWT was more grounded. This would be in 2000.
  25. Debbie Morgan as devon's mom (yolanda/harmony) on Y&R. She was essentially new characters, going by a new name even. This was the height of cbs's period of poaching AMC actors for y&r. They even had a promo for her.
