Another what if scenario... say Marland didn't pass and P&G did one of their shuffles which sends Marland to Another World circa 96. I can't imagine Marland working with JFP. Would he rebuild the Frames or Matthews or bring in his own family like Reardons or Snyders?- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I always thought the parallels between GL and AW were interesting. Both shows were basically gutted of vets in the early 80s and kinda staggered along for two decades, constantly failing. AW was way worse at this than GL. It's a wonder that Margaret dePriest didn't have a hw stint at GL.- NBC Daytime
The one good thing about Sunset Beach was that the Pittsburgh station aired it at 1, bumping Days to 3pm where it aired for two decades. We got onto Days after GL went to the morning and my dad would tune in early for Judge Judy. Personally, Days had little to no appeal to me but I got hooked in.- NBC Daytime
Days probably would've done better at 3pm than Santa Barbara. It was the closest in tone to GH and unlike SB had an established viewer base.- NBC Daytime
NBC's 84 comeback did not extend to daytime? What shows (game shows, Soaps) would you overhaul or can? What new shows if any would you add to daytime?- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
*Bea, not beautiful. I think her and Henry should've been foster parents to a black teenager. Speaking of minorities they should've invested more in IQ from the Galahads. That Hispanic doctor (Louie?) with the ball cap seemed to appear a lot, maybe build family around him. Speaking of Cedars in '85/86, I would've kept Reva as a candy striper (or whatever) at Cedars to "ground" her slightly.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

Re: Cops I say they they should've had a cop in cast and it was a major oversight that they didn't, AW and ATWT already jumped on that bandwagon. I would've upgraded that female dayplayer cop from the 80s- the actress was ater Frannie on ATWT. Even Y&R had cops and they were far from an exciting adventure soap. Especially if GL wanted to ride the action adventure fad, they should've had a cop in a core family before Rusty in 87(?). Of course Frank didn't quit working at the family diner when he became a cop. Beautiful would've made sense as a matriarchal type, but if Maureen was going to grow into that role the Bea would be redundant. I'd recast Tony. Was Richard Bekins (Jamie, AW) available in '85?- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

The article did say "few," not "all" of the current soaps.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
That's funny, since in December blake would be naming her daughter after her novel character. Clarissa was based on Holly, in GL tradition the child is named after someone. Any reason for Beth naming her daughter (with Alan) Peyton? Indianapolis Colts fans? Also, was a reason given for Jude Bauer. It seemed like GL always needed "reasons" for names.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
- Ratings from the 1990s
Murder, She Wrote was only a hit after 60 Minutes. The minute they move it away from it, the ratings tank. I miss the Sunday sitcom block.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
