  1. Non-profit newspaper from Asheville NC giving nonpartisan updates: https://avlwatchdog.org/
  2. Edit. My error. My intention was singular, not plural -- the autocorrect changed it to congressmen from congressman, as the article referred to a specific person. But the bigger error I made was that the article actually says that a N.C. Republican *state senator* claimed this. Not a congressman. Yikes that I messed up in relaying a fact-check! (I mean we already know that Republican U.S. congresspersons are telling lies, but it's important that I not add to the misinformation!)
  3. Another "Reality Check" feature (fact-checking article from the Charlotte Observer) "Starlink reconnects Western NC reeling from Helene. Who gets credit becomes political." (bringing Starlink internet to the region after the hurricane damaged the local Internet infrastructure) https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article293356009.html The article says that Trump falsely claimed credit, saying that he requested the units from Elon Musk, and a Republican congressmen claimed Trump got Musk to do it. But FACT: actually FEMA had already requested Starlink for this purpose and the system was already in N.C. when Trump made his claim. It also says that *previously* (months or years ago) there had been a grant application to provide Starlink to the region. Now, Republicans and rumormongers are blaming Biden admin for denying that application back then. FACT: the reason the grant was denied back then: After Starlink filed that application, the FCC determined that it didn’t qualify for funding. According to a letter from the FCC chairperson, the agency found that Starlink: Couldn’t provide internet at the required speed set by the FCC. Would have imposed “high start-up costs on rural consumers,” requiring subscribers to buy a $600 dish to access internet. Proposed using some funds to provide internet to places like parking lots and road medians, which are not underserved rural households like the program intended. .
  4. ^ Well worth reading. Some of the rumors and lies are insane, such as Marjorie Taylor Greene's nonsense. But also other lies that might seem reasonable to the naive, either because they are carefully crafted lies that *seem* real, or because the lies have been claimed as true by someone they believe, or simply because these lies have been repeated so incessantly. It's good to have the facts onhand when talking with friends/relatives/neighbors who sincerely believe this garbage. Any conversation we can have with anyone, if it changes one vote --- that one vote could make a difference in a local or national election.
  5. Debunking the rumors and outright lies about Hurricane Helene and the relief efforts the Charlotte (North Carolina) Observer has a regular feature called "Reality Check". From the blurb: "Reality Check NC Reality Check reflects the Charlotte Observer’s commitment to holding those in power to account, shining a light on public issues that affect our local readers and illuminating the stories that sets the Charlotte region apart. Email [email protected] " Here's a new Reality Check article: "Helene fact check: Here are the rumors and the reality in Western North Carolina" https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/state/north-carolina/article293523249.html
  6. Link to the full Charlotte Observer editorial column: "Shame on Donald Trump for worsening NC’s Helene tragedy with political lies" https://www.charlotteobserver.com/opinion/article293483114.html
  7. I think soaps.com may have been speculating, but it's a reasonable guess in this case, and likely true. This is from the official fall preview: "John (Drake Hogestyn) puts the pieces together regarding the accident that caused Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) paralysis." https://www.tvinsider.com/1151079/soaps-fall-2024-preview-general-hospital-days-of-our-lives-young-and-the-restless-bold-and-the-beautiful/ Eric Brady is doing that this week so it fits, especially with the promo for week of Oct. 7th.
  8. ^ from @JAS0N47's site: Sandra D. Robinson (Charlotte Taylor) 12/1/08-1/22/09 From soapcentral, her character bio: (Link) She said in her IG post that she worked with Drake for only a few months. So many cast/crew who knew Drake for short periods of time long ago, still have lasting impressions of his kindness and supportiveness.
  9. Sandra Dee Robinson She played this role: https://web.archive.org/web/20150911060136/http://soapcentral.com/days/whoswho/charlotte.php meimsandradee (Sandra Dee Robinson) It seems like yesterday. Drake was so very kind to everyone. When I joined the DOOL cast from day one, Drake was a supportive force. He never engaged in negative talk and just was a gem of a human. I feel honored to have worked with him although it was only a few months. You are missed Drake. You’ve definitely left this world a better place for being in it. #drakehogestyn #daysofourlives #gratefulheart
  10. If you have a VPN, you can catch the USA Oct 2 episode via Canada's episode dated Oct. 1st (day ahead in Canada) https://www.globaltv.com/shows/the-young-and-the-restless/
  11. Regardless of actress, I don't think the character of Kristen has "heart", except for *maybe* her first year on the show decades ago. Kristen is a sociopath.
  12. The new 2024 fall season premiere for Y&R is October 3. https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/67414-article-‘the-young-and-the-restless’-sets-season-52-premiere-date-teases-what’s-to-come/ Every year, for Y&R, CBS pulls the prior season episodes as soon as the new season debuts, so everything through Oct 2 has now been deleted. Hopefully they'll start uploading new season episodes today? The B&B fall 2024 season premiere was Sept 16.

  14. Ali Sweeney used to work with Cameron Mathison for her series of Hallmark movies. After Mathison left Hallmark for a different TV movie network, Victor Webster became Ali Sweeney's Hallmark movies screen partner. (Victor Webster played Nicholas Alamain on DAYS 1999-2000). Sweeney and Webster have now done several movies together. A few days ago, Victor Webster commented on Ali Sweeney's IG post about Drake: https://www.instagram.com/p/DAfFUORPt9E/ (Webster may have commented more, but that's what I've seen so far.)
  15. soapsdotcom (soaps.sheknows) brief statement from Ali Sweeney. Note: the site referred to Drake as portraying Ali's onscreen stepfather. Although John was legally that, Drake's Roman was Sami's dad for many years, and even after he learned that he wasn't Roman, John still thought of Sami as his daughter. https://soaps.sheknows.com/days-of-our-lives/news/747114/alison-sweeney-remembers-drake-hogestyn/ Alison Sweeney Shares Her Memories of Drake Hogestyn, a ‘Hero’ and ‘Giant Man’ (just quoting Ali here, and omitting the soapsdotcom commentary) “It was devastating news for us to find out that Drake had passed away on Saturday,” she said. “But no surprise to me was the outpouring of love for him and the reaction from the fans.” “He’s someone I remember meeting my very first day on set, teaching me the ropes and making us all feel at home,” she said. “Every person who’s ever met him or has had the pleasure to meet him felt what I felt has have been feeling for the last 48 hours. “He was a hero, a giant man and wonderful and giving and thoughtful with every person he met,” she continued. “He was so kind to me when I started in ’93.” soapsdotcom: No matter what else was going on, Hogestyn had an enviable gift for focusing and making everyone feel seen. Ali: “He still gave you his attention, he gave you his time, he looked you in the eye, he told you a funny story. I know the key elements of the conversation he had with you, because that’s how he treated everybody,” Sweeney said. “He made time, he gave himself to every person he spoke to — you just don’t meet people like that every day — and there’s always a good baseball analogy in there, too. Always, always. He’ll be missed.”
  16. As @Wendy mentioned way way back in this thread, there is a Twitter account ( @ xotonironixo ) that is tracking and reposting all the comments and statements from cast&crew, just as a kind service to all of us. (This same Twitter account gave this same service when John Aniston and Bill Hayes passed.) I don't know the twitter person personally; but it feels (to me) like a simple kindness, and not something done for clout. They commented that they recently got a lot of followers, but credited that as a testimony to the universal love everyone has for Drake Hogestyn and John Black -- and the wonderful kindness that Drake showed to all.
  17. I agree. The poster asking the question isn't the type of person who gloms onto scoop, or who seeks the thrill of reading about anyone's grief, or who demands a statement. I agree that the poster asked a simple sincere question just being curious to know what Kirsten Storms said if she chose to post. My reply to the question is that I follow Kirsten Storms, and I haven't seen anything ... but as I mentioned above, quite a few current&former cast/crew have been posting comments to one another, on one another's social media, instead of making their own posts, so such comments could have been missed amidst the hundreds of comments from fans. OR maybe KS is simply being private, or taking her time.
  18. I'm sure some current and former cast/crew/friends are remaining private. Reaching out privately to one another or privately to the family, instead of posting. Some current/former cast/crew are commenting directly to one another -- on each other's social media (instead of making their own posts), so it's hard to see unless you scroll through hundreds of comments. I've come across some of these comments but I haven't noted them all. I agree with all who posted above-thread that of course there shouldn't be any expectation for anyone to say or do anything.

  20. horrible pretending to be nice, psychopath, zealot owned by the worst of the worst. Yeah, all of that.
  21. To clarify my post, I *KNOW* that he's evil, and I'm not fooled. What I meant was that he might have seemed civil/coherent/polished -- to those who are unaware. I said that I need that facade to crack, but what I meant was that I need that facade to be completely smashed. It was ENRAGING to me to watch this horrible man pretend to be nice.
