4/19/82 is in the vault. There’s a flashback to the spring ’81 hook-up of Jack and Jill, so you can get a little glimpse. I think that flashback has a newly-created insert of Jerry Douglas’ John discovering Jack and Jill hooking up. Where in the original scene, I assume it was Brett Halsey’s John discovering them, and that’s when Brett H was let go. When John returned to town, Jill definitely had some atoning to do for sleeping with Jack, as she reconnected with John.

I agree there could have been more flashbacks upon Sheila's BnB debut. Also, the scenes that aired on YR, I think on 5/20/92, of Sheila at the diner recovering after escaping the farmhouse fire - perhaps these scenes should have just aired on BnB instead, to show the viewers more where Sheila was coming from. Besides that, though, I think the show did an incredible job of incorporating Sheila in the Forrester world. I do think CBS aired promos during both YR and BB to add more color... there's a summer '92 BnB Promo where Sheila is "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle", obsessed with Eric Jr.

THE COLBYS
September and fall of '86 was a major "Sophie's Choice" for 14-year-old me, who had no VCR... The previous tv season - I had no issues watching Colbys Season 1, Thursdays at 9, and then Knots Landing Season 8, right after that at 10. But then the scheduling idiots at CBS moved KL Season 9 to Thursdays at 9, in direct competition with Colbys season 2! 😫 I had to prioritize my beloved KL, and I would literally just change the channel during commercials to catch brief glimpses of the Colbys 🤣 IIRC KL's ratings took a big hit, and the show was moved back to 10. But by then Colbys was nearing cancellation...

I 100% agree that making Jill the daughter of Katherine was an awful idea. But - is there anyone besides me who enjoyed the story itself? 🤣 I thought it had lots of great beats: - The return of the Fosters, especially beloved Liz - The incredible character of Charlotte, alcoholic fake Jill birth-mother, played indelibly by Elizabeth Harrower soon before her passing. Every line she spoke was just gold. - Katherine’s stroke, which led to some great tense scenes as she knew Billy and Mac were cousins but couldn’t communicate it - On that note, finally an interesting story for the beige and boring Billy and Mac recasts. I was just starting to warm up to them, when in the course of a week in June ‘03, they went from getting married, to breaking up and leaving town separately. All that said, I’m quite happy the Jill/Katherine blood-relation was later retconned. I can’t keep track - is Jill still considered a Fenmore or was that also (hopefully) retconned?

Look into the past - 1975
"Derek and Jill suggested that Liz give herself a more youthful look by dyeing her hair. They gave her a wig to acquaint herself with the new image, but she felt ridiculous." Ok this sounds amazing

I’m up to 1381 – the therapy sessions with Sheila and Jay Garvin are just exquisite. She only gives him half of the Lauren Fenmore story and then is so desperate that she takes his flawed advice. It’s funny how a huge summer ’92 plot point was Sheila plotting to take over from Judy as l’il Eric’s nanny, but once Brooke and l’il Eric get off the plane from Paris, there’s no mention of daycare for the baby. Peter Brown is still in the contract credits but hasn’t made one appearance in at least a couple months… he must have been a FOBB (friend of Bill Bell

^ Not "calm" exactly... YR dropped from the top of the ratings in '80 to the middle of the pack, and didn't climb back up til '83, so I'm sure the CBS execs weren't thrilled. One other issue post-1 hour transition was John McCook... IIRC he left in Feb '80, but called it a hiatus and left Bill Bell hanging as to whether he would return. He wound up only coming back for a ep or two in May '80 and that was it. That's why BB had to pivot to find Lorie a new love interest, and brought on Nick Benedict, but that didn't wind up clicking either.

The writers did such a masterful job, incorporating Sheila into the Forrester world... 1356 - first mention of Lauren Fenmore. Ridge fills Eric in on how Lauren's baby died and how it was later found out that the babies were switched. (conveniently, Ridge couldn't recall the details of who was the perpetrator Eric says, "what kind of person could switch a baby??" The camera then pans to Sheila, who is at the hospital "taking good care" of Brooke 😈 < chef's kiss > perfection!

I just noticed an anonymous angel added 5/30/13! Thanks a million! So this is actually just 1 scene, not multiple scenes. This is a scene that could never be achieved on the Y&R of 2021. It's just beautifully written and acted. Nothing earth-shaking - just a tender moment between two people with a lot of history. I could feel the real-life affection that TEB and BM have for each other.

Hi, does anyone have May 30, 2013 that they can upload to the Vault? I would just love to see these fabulous scenes again ❤️ "Traci arrived outside Phyllis' penthouse, and she ran into Lauren. Lauren said that she'd been thinking about how she'd bullied Traci in their younger days. Traci called it ancient history, but Lauren pointed out that they'd never cleared it up. Lauren confessed that she'd treated Traci horribly, but she had seen the other side of bullying, and she didn't know if the hurt ever went away. Traci initially said that she had no residual side effects, but then she recalled that she'd recently been at a restaurant, thinking about ordering dessert, and out of nowhere, Lauren's cruel words had flooded into her head. Lauren hated the things she'd said, but Traci asserted that she was no longer the insecure girl who'd turned to pills, and she'd moved on. Lauren mused that she'd never forgotten, and Traci agreed, but she was glad the subject of bullying was getting attention. Lauren apologized, but she knew that it couldn't make up for the pain she'd caused. Traci said that they couldn't change the past, but it was never too late to become a better person. The women hugged, and Lauren received a text message from Fen, asking her to meet him at Crimson Lights.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
I was thinking about “head writer eras”, and then thinking about 1982-1989, and how I don’t really see that time period associated with a certain head writer. That’s kinda crazy, because that’s the era when Days exploded in popularity and was instrumental in creating the “supercouple” trend. Bo and Hope, Shane and Kim, Roman/John and Marlena, Steve and Kayla, Jennifer and Jack at the tail end… the show was on fire! The writing, production values, and star charisma were all on point. But we don’t seem to look at this time in any way similar to a “JER era”. I referenced the head writer list from Jason47’s site and I think I see why. It was a rotating series of head writers and mostly CO-head writers. Margaret DePriest & Sheri Anderson.......4/19/82-9/21/84............ Margaret DePriest, Sheri Anderson & Thom Racina..9/24/84-10/25/84......... Sheri Anderson & Thom Racina...............10/26/84-11/30/84........ Sheri Anderson, Thom Racina & Leah Laiman......12/3/84-11/10/86.......... Thom Racina & Leah Laiman..................11/11/86-11/18/86........ Leah Laiman.........................................11/19/86-3/14/89.......... Despite the shift in writers, to me – it’s amazing how the show kept a throughline of maintaining the same “feel” during all those years. Thoughts?

I just watched that hospital confrontation! 5/24/96. Nikki says to her "what are YOU doing here?!" and I was totally on Nikki's side😂 Christine feels completely shoehorned into the shooting story. It doesn't really track that she would work for Newman Enterprises, much less appear to Victor as a viable romantic option 🙄 Granville Van Dusen... not the most charismatic actor! Keith always felt like an afterthought.

Great summary! I'm at May '96 in my chronological viewing and everything you said tracks to what I've seen. I will only add that the slow diminishment of the character of Traci Abbott didn't help matters. I see the character in two phases: 80s Traci and 90s Traci. 80s Traci was a well-written, well-rounded full character that propelled Beth Maitland to YR's first acting Emmy. 90s Traci was a one-note drag, singularly obsessed with winning back Brad's love and haranguing her sister Ashley, who she used to be so close to. Starting around Traci and Brad's second marriage, it became such a chore to watch Traci's scenes, which really pained me as a BethM fan. Traci IMO was at a real nadir by her '95 return, when she ostensibly comes home to support John's recovery, but proceeds to sniff after Brad and berate Ashley... never mind that Traci has a studly husband Steve waiting at home for her! I'm not saying there weren't some great moments, like Traci and Lauren's 94 catfight. But it wasn't until her 2001 return, when Traci took on more of a parental role, that I started to enjoy the character again.

Unpopular opinions: cancelled soaps edition
The first trans character I’m aware of was Azure on The City (Loving spin-off) circa ‘96 https://abc-daytime.fandom.com/wiki/The_City Later was Maya on BnB

Seems to me like MTS' real-life pregnancy shifted a lot of things. The writers had to move her away from stripping at the Bayou, and came up with this insta-story of "who's the daddy", and bringing on Kevin, Caroline, Allison and Earl. So then there's much less reason for Cash to be around from a storyline perspective. Personally, I think they should have stuck with the Katherine-Cash romance, which was trashy and filled with chemistry, instead of pivoting to Katherine-Earl, which was Dead on Arrival.
