  1. Cold is a great word to describe the Paige and Greg vibe. They left me quite cold. Talk about the opposite of Laura and Greg! Which I assume was the point, but it didn't keep my interest. I never understood Paige in the heroine role. I guess I'm in the minority, as the show put all their eggs in the Paige basket for 6 seasons. To me, she was always somewhat of a cold b*tch, and I preferred her as the schemer we initially met in season 8.
  2. I think Eric’s short-lived romance with Mary Frances was the show’s attempt to audition him in the young leading man role. After that, they eventually handed the young leading man mantle to Michael, and I guess they just didn’t find much purpose for Eric on the show.
  3. 1570 was directed by Susan Flannery! Do we know if this is the first ep she directed?
  4. Sigh… I guess you’re right that the character of Diana was basically unsalvageable post-Chip… but it didn’t have to be that way. The Knots writers proved themselves as skilled creators of multi-layered, deeply felt characters. In this respect, I think they failed Diana. For example, re: Diana feeling lucky Chip chose her – I can buy that concept. However, to my recollection, nothing we saw on-screen indicated that she felt insecure in the romance department. Her arc in season 3 was focused on the family’s recovery from Sid’s death. IIRC in Seasons 1 and 2, she maybe had 1 or 2 “episode-of-the-week boyfriends”? I guess we can chalk up her insecurities to failed off-screen romances.
  5. Some musings on the final days of Diana Fairgate Fenece and Claudia Lonow… In the KnotsLanding.net interview with David Jacobs and Michael Filerman, they both laud CL as a fantastic actress. But David J says repeatedly “Diana was not a popular character”. I wonder – was she always an unpopular character, or did that happen during Season 5? As Vee detailed, Diana devolved in S5 to a borderline psychopath – and certainly unlikeable/unrootable! Since common agreement is that CL is a great actress, to me the fault would then be with the writing… that the S5 writers failed to create a realistic portrayal of Diana torn between her love for her husband and her family, and instead presented us with an obsessed maniac. After Diana returned from her oddly-timed multiple-episode trip to visit Uncle Joe (why couldn’t we have seen this? I would have loved to see straight-talker Uncle Joe try to clear up Diana’s muddled thinking), it felt the writers tried to wrap up Diana’s story with a minimum of effort. An underwhelming, half-hearted reconciliation with Karen… which was a real let-down after 5 seasons of being shown their intense mother-daughter bond. A barely-there-before-it’s-gone receptionist job at Gary Ewing Enterprises. Multiple eps with no Diana appearance at all. It makes me wonder if the writers would have preferred to just write her off after Chip’s funeral. There’s an interesting occurrence we see with CL and later with both Teri Austin and Tonya Crowe. (maybe this happened to Pat Petersen too? But I haven’t confirmed) All 3 actors spend years not in the opening credits, but instead in the “also starring” section, or even in Tonya’s case, many years in the end credits. Finally, all are promoted to opening credits, and all 3 only last one season before being let go. Who knows all the ins-and-outs of each situation… but I surmise that it’s a contractual guarantee that after so many seasons, the actors will be added to the opening credits regardless of the writers’ future plans for the character. So, this makes me think the writers were forced to use Diana all of season 5 even after they lost interest in the character. Most of this is conjecture on my part, as things just don’t add up, and I want to know why! Come on Claudia, write that tell-all memoir! She has said she struggled with drugs during this time, and we can only imagine how that played a part. My wish for Diana is that she received an on-screen proper and thorough redemption arc. I do appreciate she got the Season 6 goodbye scenes (instead of just leaving off-screen for another Uncle Joe trip) and that we saw a more normal and mature Diana in the final season.
  6. The early eps of season 6 were filmed on location in Oregon, which helped contribute to the beautiful look of Lotus Point. Also, production was continuous from the season 5 finale into season 6, rather than taking the customary 2 month or so break. This was all done to avoid filming in LA during the ‘84 summer Olympics.
  7. Hi, can someone walk me through where to locate the 1.99 per month/19.99 per year deal? I downloaded the Peacock app, created an account, but when I click on “payment and plans”, I only get these options: - Peacock free - Peacock Premium 4.99 per month - Peacock Premium Plus 9.99 per month
  8. One other factor to the writers burning through the Season 5 story bible early, was that the season was extended from 22 to 25 eps. (can't find the source now, but remember reading that) And then seasons 6-8 were all super-sized at 30 eps each. = = My impression is that Cathy Geary was more of a character created "on-the-fly", rather than planned with much foresight. After Ciji was killed off, Lisa Hartman signed a contract for a new ABC show "High Performance". Fortunately it tanked in the ratings and LH became available.
  9. Attention everyone and especially the anonymous uploading angel we appreciate so much - @ChickenNuggetz92 provided an update here https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/61220-yrbbgl-vault-updates/page/3/#comment-1813298 new uploads to the Vault are temporarily on hold while ChickenNuggetz92 migrates the Vault to a new OneDrive. He'll keep us updated... meanwhile, a million thanks to ChickenNuggetz92 and the Angels!
  10. Thanks for this insight. It helps to explain how Cathy could later stay with Joshua after his bad behavior starts... = = Like you said, these are spotlight eps for Constance McCashin. It's super-sad to note that, IIRC, this is the last time that Laura is ever given a lead character spotlight 😢
  11. I do wonder if Danielle Brisebois' short Knots stint was related to her CBS contract... CBS' Archie Bunker's Place, co-starring DB, was canceled at the end of its 4th season in spring '83, with no notice given. Star Carroll O'Connor was bitter he wasn't given a final season to wrap up the stories or at least notice to craft a satisfying finale. Perhaps ABP's abrupt cancelation left DB with some unused contract guarantees, so CBS said "put her on Knots for a few eps"? Mary Frances' story starts off strong, but soon poops out. Was she always intended to be a short-term character, or did the writers change course mid-story? I guess we'll never know... DB went on to live her best life as a musician, as a member of the New Radicals group, and later the writer of Natasha Bedingfield's 2005 #1 smash "Unwritten" = = Re: Karen's drug addiction - Michele Lee comments in this interview https://www.knotslanding.net/interviews/michele.htm: "AS: Karen entering drug rehab. Michele: Mixed feelings. (Long pause) AS: Can you elaborate? Michele: I had questions as to whether Karen should take this route. (Pause) But I worked very hard on those nine episodes about drug dependency. I became very involved with playing that part properly." I really wish she elaborated further! What other route would Karen have taken...? = = Among my first eps ever seen of Knots, in spring '84 as a 12-year-old, was Karen's stay in rehab! 😮 What an introduction, huh? Needless to say, I was hooked.
  12. I couldn't help but take an advance peek at the newly-uploaded eps to confirm exactly when Kimberlin Brown returned from maternity leave 😇 She returns in a cameo in 1764 and returns in a full ep in 1768. Does anyone know the original airdates of 1764 and 1768? It's strange to see Molly so warm and maternal with Sheila, and Sheila so friendly and non-hostile/not-homicidal towards Molly! Eternal thanks as always to the Uploading Angel!
  13. Thanks for the nice memories, Vee. Isn't this around the time that Diana takes an exit (off-screen, someone else just mentions it) to visit Uncle Joe in New York? I don't want to spoil anything, but I find Claudia Lonow's final eps as Diana to be quite curious. I'll comment once you've reached early season 6.
  14. I just finished 1564… is it just me or did the plot accelerate very quickly out of nowhere…? Previously, Eric had given Steve Crown a 1-week “ticking clock” to get close to Brooke and get rid of Connor Davis. Suddenly, in 1564, Connor has learned of the Belief patent and will receive the patent file the next day, so now we have a new 24-hour “ticking clock”! Additionally, Ridge only just departed to Monte Carlo in ep 1560 for business, but also to decide btw Taylor and Brooke… and now in 1564 he’s already returning! Feels like the writers decided that things were moving too slowly…?
  15. End of Mar ‘98 so they were married a year and a half
  16. Upon my recent '96 viewing, I was shocked how fast Nikki and Joshua progressed... they had their first date in August, he proposed in September, and they married in October. He was definitely milquetoast, but they had a nice easy romantic chemistry, and I think Nikki may have been content to remain married to him, if it wasn't for that pesky psychotic former wife.
  17. Ok, I dug through the SOC yearly recaps to figure out what happened to Victor and Nikki’s ’98 remarriage… • Summer ’98 – Diane reveals she is still legally married to Victor. Somehow this is resolved and V&N resume their marriage • Spring ’99 – they are separated when Victor is kidnapped. Victor bonds with Ramona and Nikki reconnects with Brad • Summer and fall ’99 – V&N’s relationship deteriorates as Victor won’t have his vasectomy reversed to have another child with Nikki, and later she is betrayed to find out about his sperm sample. Brad tries to lure Nikki away and Ramona continues to lurk around. • 2000 – Nikki separates from Brad, and is still married to Victor but their relationship is shaky. He is betrayed by Nikki bailing out Jabot from bankruptcy. I assume their divorce is processed sometime late 2000? • 2001 – not much V&N romance, they are occupied with other stories • Spring ’02 – V&N reconnect, and Victor goes on his journey of self-discovery, revisiting his prior loves • Sept ’02 – V&N remarry again. I won’t dig through the archives to figure out when they next divorce, but I know by 2005, Nikki is dating Bobby. Oh yea and Victor kissing Sharon in ’03 prob didn’t help matters.
  18. i feel like by Dec '91, Katherine saw how Dina could be shady... lying about her fake illness being the reason she stayed away for so many years. But by Jan '96, Katherine was happy to summon Dina back to Genoa City...
  19. I am up to 1556 - 1558 and they are on FIRE! In the past, I often FF past certain scenes or storylines that don’t keep my attention… but not here… I am relishing to see Sheila in her full powers. She is secure in her new marriage, and she is starting to realize the joys of being rich! In her entire history on YR and BB, I have never seen her money-focused, but who wouldn’t be tempted by the “sweet life” once given a taste? I loved her free and relaxed interactions here with Brooke. I’m not sure if she actually likes Brooke, but she definitely sees her as an ally. She confides in Brooke: “you’re my only friend… I’m very private” Oh, if Brooke only knew! A hat-tip to the writers for throwing in little future plot-clues such as: “Harry Houdini once owned this house…rumor has it there are secret tunnels underneath!” I am very impressed so far with the Kevin story. It doesn’t feel preachy or PSA-like at all. (Cricket/Christine Blair Romalotti Williams should take notes) The struggle to secure Kevin a job at the Bikini Bar feels very true-to-life. I really appreciate that they cast Black actors. I love how Macy, while flailing in almost all areas of her life, is a passionate advocate for Kevin. I lol’d out loud when Aunt Ruthanne commented about Macy: “oh that’s right… she has a husband and a boyfriend!” 😂 My only minor criticism is surely Kevin does have his challenges in life and I would like to see that... to provide a full picture… perhaps that is forthcoming. The Sally/Stephanie scenes were delicious. Sally greets Stephanie with “free advice / a warning”… but by the end, Stephanie has turned the tables with a sly grin. In retrospect, I do view these scenes in a different light, knowing that Sally and Stephanie eventually come to a mutual understanding and respect… but that’s just fine. At the end of 1557 when Ridge barges into Eric’s office… does Trish look like she was caught with her hand in the cookie jar?? I am all in for the Belief story and am making a point not to skip any scenes. I am mostly enjoying it. Stephanie forced to pretend to tolerate Brooke is fantastic to watch. And Karen subbing for Brooke for a Steve Massage is the most interesting thing Karen has done in months. However, I do not like the Connor actor and feel he is miscast. (I do wonder if I would have preferred Perry Stephens cast as Connor Davis!) And I definitely do not enjoy Connor and Ridge’s macho rivalry 🙄
  20. Ha! Could that have been me...?? 🤣 That's so funny that Victor remembers his love for Nikki, while she is in the hospital bed, b/c that's exactly what happened in winter '92 as she was recovering from the back surgery and her addiction... he kept having visions of her, which were kinda awkward as they seemed to lean a bit "Victoria's Secret"/almost pornographic...
  21. I was out exercising this morning, and my thoughts kept circling back to Victor and Nikki, and I realized I still have nagging questions... (only on a soap forum could people understand that I would be out exercising and thinking of vintage '90s Young and the Restless 😂🤣) I recently watched summer '96. Nikki was vulnerable with Victor and made it clear she was open to a reconciliation. IMO he seemed totally disinterested. Like, he had moved on from that chapter in his life. Hope straight-up asks Victor if he will remarry Nikki, and he replies, "I don't see that happening" So I guess my question is - when does Victor re-discover his love for Nikki? Is it before Nikki is shot, or is it because Nikki is shot and on death's door?
  22. Ok, thanks... I've only seen clips, such as the moment Victor tells Diane he's staying married to Nikki and how devastated Diane was. Sounds like i need to see the whole story to get the intricacies
  23. I'm not too familiar with the YR plots of 1998/99 and something has always confused me... Victor ditches Diane in the cruelest way after Nikki miraculously recovers, post-deathbed remarriage. But by '99 Victor and Nikki are divorced again?? Anyone recall how that happened?
