Y&R: October 2024 Discussion Thread
Yes, it was a swipe against all the crime stories/murder mysteries LML wrote on the show during her relatively short, but ruinous tenure. An unnamed actor gave an interview to SOD at the time with some of the insight about how LML ran the show. The scene was with Katherine reading a newspaper:

That set redesign may have been planned before his return or just coincided with it. His involvement could have been negligible or perhaps he had more than we know (since Scott was gone from the B&B credits in September). Set aside, I was just speaking about credits in the last post, I think Scott will likely show up in the first or second week of November. We’ll hopefully see noticeable production differences once he starts being credited.

Yeah - since Y&R tapes about a month in advance, Scott’s first credited episode should theoretically be around the time of the 13K episode - his return would have been announced slightly over a month before that episode airs. From Michelle Stafford’s recent interview, we know he’s already working on the show - it’s just a matter of if he started before or slightly after that Deadline announcement.

ARTICLE: Loren Lott & Chene’ Lawson Return To ‘The Young and the Restless’
Seems like it’s all happening around the same time too - the 13k episode will ait almost a month after Scott’s return was announced.

Phyllis’s hypocrisy and being a nutcase herself makes her even more unsympathetic when she makes comments about the mental stability of other characters like Sharon and Diane. Like Carly on GH, we’re just supposed to “accept” it because this character is somehow deemed as a “chosen one” by TPTB. Even with crap, ruinous writing, I still somehow have a soft spot for Sharon that I can no longer have with Phyllis. I totally think that’s because of the acting…

The Phyllis flashback episode was really an example of how much Stafford’s ego, laziness, and ticks really overcame her over the years. She still had her ticks back in the 90’s to be totally honest, but there used to be a genuine sincerity there that hasn’t existed since like 2005. I stand by Stafford doing her best work in 2000-2004. She really seemed to try back then to make Phyllis a complete character and give her acting some nuance.

What Are You Listening To?

Yes, I did really like Phyllis and Jack once upon a time, and Stafford did her best work in the early 00's when she returned to the show. That was her best era, IMO. I hated that she seemed to fight against that era of the character so much over the years because she preferred playing the Giggly Heffa version. Nick and Phyllis should have never been more than just an affair. That's one instance where I'm sad Jack Smith didn't get to write out the rest of the story before Latham swooped in and f.ucked this show forever.- GH: October 2024 Discussion Thread

Not sure if this was posted already, but Michelle Stanford said before landing the role of Phyllis on Y&R, she lost out on a role at OLTL - the feedback was she wasn’t “pretty.” I wonder what the OLTL role was.
