Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin indicted in bribery case

Michelle Janavs, a former executive at a food manufacturer, paved her older daughter’s way into college through side-door schemes, according to the indictment. But her younger daughter got suspicious when Janavs allegedly started a similar process for her. JANAVS: I had a question for you. So I was able to get [my younger daughter] the multiday ACT. CW-1: Okay, you got her extended time multiple days, got it. JANAVS: Yes, so I got that, the only thing is [my younger daughter] is not like [my older daughter]....She’s not stupid. So if I said to her, “Oh, well, we’re going to take it up at CW-1’s testing center] she’s going to wonder why..... She’s smart, she’s going to figure this out. Yeah, she’s going to say to me— she already thinks I’m up to, like, no good.

Absolutely. These people are so entitled and they have no shame. As you say, it's so unfair that people who earned there spot are treated like they took it from someone else, when these rich (mostly white) people are the real problem. The greed is what bothers me the most.

I wonder if they will do jail time. Obviously, they have the best lawyers. I'll be interested to see what happens. At the very least I hope they have to pay fines that actually cause some pain. For sure. I think we can all name a few people in public life who did not get in based on their academic abilities. Trump at Wharton comes screaming to mind.

And to what end? I feel like so many of his policies are conflicting. Are the corporate overlords really going to allow him to put making America white again over money and growth? For once I'm on the overlords side. I'll be the first to admit it's complicated, but I think Japan did the experiment for us. Zero population growth will turn a country like the U.S. upside down. We're born and bred consumers, I don't believe we can change until climate change is much further along.

No problem. I didn't mean to come across so vociferously. I'm just frustrated by the things wealthy, famous people get away with sometimes. I recognize that this wasn't the crime of the century. In many ways it's really just business as usual, but it shouldn't be. 🤣 I had that same exact thought.

It didn't happen to her, she perpetrated a crime. The crime happened to other people. People who didn't get into these schools because she cheated her child's way in. They are the victims. It's greedy, disgusting, criminal behavior and there is no excuse. But it does get worse.

These are people who had every single advantage and they still felt the need to cheat. They could send their children to the best private schools, have tutors, SAT prep courses, the works, but that wasn't enough for them. I hope they do time, and I don't give a f*ck about their future careers.

I don't know how to think about it either. It's sad to say, but I think Tucker Carlson and his ilk have successfully moved the Overton window. The fact that he still has a show after the horrible things he said about women and young girls is deeply disturbing. Fox has no bottom of course. They are brainwashing people at an alarming rate and many people already agreed with Carlson about women anyway. Now they will see that he said these things without consequence so it becomes even more acceptable. Can a woman be elected right now? I have my doubts. Can Joe Biden really beat Trump? Sure, the polls look good now, but that doesn't inspire my confidence. I'm very glad it's not up to me to pick the nominee. If the universe gave me the power to choose I wouldn't know what to do with it.

I threw that memo in the recycling bin. From what I can see it's becoming normalized in society as a whole. This really vile stuff is definitely becoming a feature, not a bug, on the right. Note how Tucker won't apologize. He knows he doesn't have to thanks to Trump.

On a similar note this is going on in Nebraska. He's Rickett's field director. In addition to the insane amount of antisemitism he was spewing, he also threatened to run down BLM activists with his car, talks about harassing homeless people, and of course homophobia. Let's see if he is fired.

She could have just chosen better words once again. Separating children from parents is a wrong policy no matter who is doing it. She is not wrong about that as far as I can see. Using drones to kill terrorists when many innocent die too is a moral conundrum. There is nothing wrong with bringing it up, although I wonder what she thinks the alternative is? Fewer by far have died from drones than the bombing we've done. Are we supposed to just let terrorist train unimpeded? No thanks. Nevertheless, she is free to make her case, but when she uses the word murder in a way that the right will pounce on, I'm not listening with an open mind the way I might otherwise.

I can't believe she used the word "murder" in reference to President Obama.

No, I find it pretty disturbing too. Narcotics have been a terrible plague for a long time, but it's sad to think that people are dying from a single dose so often now. There isn't any time to hit a bottom and fight your way back. Maybe there is a little less stigma to drug addiction these days because medical science has determined addiction a disease. I guess that's more respect than people addicted to coke or crack in the 80's got, but what good does it really do? Isn't it that very medical establishment along with corporate greed that has lead to many of these recent addictions? Not only does rehab have a huge failure rate, but have you seen the articles about the insurance scams in Florida? It's terrifying and heartbreaking. And yes, things are going sideways. They can't go any other way while 45 is in charge. We will be very lucky if we can turn things around even when he's gone because we've shown that we are vulnerable to this type of strong man governing. One of the most frightening aspects of the whole thing for me is watching the Republican party cave to the unending lies and corruption. Maybe I should have known they would, but I had to see it to believe it.

Netflix: One Day at a Time
^ It can't be that expensive to make. The sets are modest. Fingers crossed.

Disturbing to say the least.

I really hope it's renewed. I get the impression it's not doing that well for Netflix in terms of views, but maybe all the positive buzz will tip the scales in it's favor. It really is a good show.

It's a sign of how bizarre this whole time period has become. I think the things she has said played into his hands, but only because the world doesn't make a lick of sense. Why is anyone taking him even remotely seriously after all the antisemitic things he's done? Remember a few months ago when Trump said Israel was "your country" to a bunch of American Jews? https://www.timesofisrael.com/trump-praises-israel-as-your-country-to-american-jews/ Or how about the ads that had Hillary Clinton surrounded by the Star of David and dollar signs? That was before he won and I couldn't believe my eyes. It's not entirely the fault of the press though. They report this stuff, but Republicans just don't GAF. Not that any of that let's Omar off the hook and it looks like her own community is taking notice.

"It just was quiet for a little while," Walter Tendler recounted, "and then he just sits up in bed halfway and looks at me and he goes, 'S***, I'm not going to see the Mueller report, am I?' And that was really the last coherent thing that he said." Yeah, who can blame these folks? It must be awful to die when the country you love and fought for is in such obvious peril.

Looks like this dream may have died, but to be honest I don't care that much who the nominee is. There isn't a democrat running who isn't significantly better than what we have now. I like Kamala because she's a woman (and yeah, I feel we deserve a turn) and because she's smart and competent, but I'll take whoever can raise the money and support to win the primary. In other news.

Yeah, I didn't address the comparison to Steve King because I think it's completely off the wall. I don't even think Omar should lose her committee position, but she needs to stop throwing red meat out there immediately. The GOP is full of shameless hypocrites who will come after her without a second thought about all the hate they spread themselves.

I would love that or if need be Biden Harris. I certainly understand people's instinct to go the safe route. We have to win this time no matter what.

No. His twitter from that time is full of tweets explaining why she was exactly wrong about AIPAC. And speaking of Yair, here are some more good points he makes on this topic

I think instead I'll listen to Jews when it comes to what constitutes antisemitism. On Corbyn for example: https://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/more-than-85-per-cent-of-british-jews-think-jeremy-corbyn-is-antisemitic-1.469654 I'm not buying that Omar is just stepping into one antisemitic comment after the next accidentally. The duel loyalty comments? I mean, come on. I would say it's classic Nazi propaganda, but they didn't invent it either. In addition it's entirely possible for Omar to be antisemitic while some of the people coming after her are Islamophobic or people trying to use her as a wedge. In fact, I'd say it's pretty obvious that's what's happening. There are plenty of "real" bigots to go around.
