  1. ^ Wow. I've always given CNN the benefit of the doubt, but this proves what so many here have said. That network is a sellout for ratings.
  2. That would be a classic for the ages. If someone told me even four years ago that I would be rooting for something like this to happen to an American President, I would not have believed it. I always thought democracy demanded loyal opposition.
  3. I admire your continued optimism. I've known so many people far more unhealthy (rural NY in the 80's/90's) that lived in to their 80's that I can't share it. Sure he's obese, but look around you any given day in America and he's not comparatively large, he doesn't smoke and he doesn't drink. He also has the best medical staff and facilities moments away from him, while in upstate NY people are an hour from mediocre care at best. Maybe we can hope that the rumors are true and he does coke, which weakens the heart. Maybe he really does have dementia, but I'm pretty sure he's just stupid or it's early stage. Maybe we'll just get lucky, but to quote Takeshi Kovacs, luck isn't a word I'd associate with myself. And yeah, I went in to morbid detail in this post, but I've spent a good deal of time fantasizing about this topic.
  4. 🤣 Got to love her. https://twitter.com/politico/status/1096153922228703233
  5. 😡 What a stupid waste of money. I can't even tell you how much this pisses me off. On a different front I find this news worrying. Apparently people are spending on average $36,000 on a new car. I understand that the larger economy is more at fault than individuals, but that is an insane amount of money to spend on a depreciating asset unless you are rolling in $. We need to give our students better financial educations in high school.
  6. The sheer temerity given that Trump jump started all the hate that's flying around these days with his little winks to the white supremacists. Remember his ads that had Hillary surrounded with the star of David and dollar signs? 😂 Can you imagine the reaction if Obama did this. It's funny and yet disgusting. He is a complete waste of space.
  7. I hope we keep our fingers out of the pie this time. Let the UN or Canada or anyone else take the lead.
  8. That was an interesting article. I feel bad for people because they seem not to understand how dangerous and addictive it is. At the same time if I were living in NK I might be doing the same even if I did know.
  9. And this is something that will be a lasting legacy of Trump's. Now these folks realize that if they can stand the shame they can stay. Classic Ayn Rand "who will stop me"? I'm not saying this particular guy should resign. That's up to Virginians, but you can see the trend will continue. What I wish would happen is Fairfax resigns, Northam picks a new LG and then resigns himself. Not sure that is possible, but if it is it seems like one way to go.
  10. Yes, please. I believe in giving people a second chance if they express sincere regret. Let's get rid of all the people who have never done that, instead of focusing on those who have.
  11. I hope he wins.
  12. This is infuriating. What a bizzaro world we live in. How anyone takes this man seriously I will never understand. I guess what it comes down to is he is a hypocrite with no shame at all.
  13. If it does, it shouldn't. The working class does deserve more dignity, respect and money. I don't agree with plans that make people work to get SNAP or any other benefit, but I don't see how anyone can be against the notion that workers deserve more respect.
  14. Yes. And then the Yeshiva in upstate NY burned and vandalized with Swastikas and all the attacks in Brooklyn. It's pretty scary. And the person I thank most is 45, who makes his coy little references to the Trail of Tears like it's some kind of joke. What a shame on our nation he continues to be every single day he is in office. He's unleashed the far right and the fringe left is not to be outdone. I'm hoping that to some extent people are wise to the game the media played with Hillary. Not the public, but the people running the campaigns and the candidates themselves who can shut some of this down directly by confronting it. It's an uphill battle no doubt.
  15. Here's a bright spot. It really does make me happy to see so many women running, whatever the outcome.
  16. It's disturbing to watch this happen right before our eyes, even though anyone could see it would happen when Trump was elected.
  17. Its bad enough that he said it, but why on Earth didn't anyone on his team red flag it? The center just isn't holding these days when it comes to government. It's frightening to realize that so many of the people in charge are completely clueless and that's not counting the ones who are traitors.
  18. 😔
  19. This isn't news to most people, but I didn't know about his efforts to dismantle the union. Not that I needed any more reasons to say no to another billionaire.
  20. I think if the northeast and the west coast were physically connected the U.S. might truly decide to break up. Giving the enormity of our military industrial complex I can only image what that would look like if it happened. Much like the USSR breaking up I guess, with loose nukes here there and everywhere.
  21. This is surreal.
  22. Spend any time at all reading "woke" twitter and you know we do have a problem with this on the left. Some of the threads on there really make me cringe. One the comes to mind is the woman bitching about how she doesn't feel comfortable in white spaces (a legit topic, no doubt) and her main example was how a white person told her not to bother taking her shoes off in the white person's house. I kid you not. It was a huge preachy thread and she had a lot of retweets and responses. I have rarely rolled my eyes harder. At the same time, no one gets righteous points for giving someone who dressed in Klan garb the side eye. It's not my call what happens in Virginia, but I do think one thing Trump has shown us is that the character of our leaders has very far reaching effects.
  23. I think this article supports your point. I definitely see the value in being pragmatic, although I think the paragraph where titled "Some of our best friends were racist" is pretty sad. I didn't know that about LBJ. https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/03/us/racist-photo-northam-blake-analysis/index.html
