I'm sorry to hear that. I know what you mean about disengaging. I remember swearing I would hide in fiction after the election, but I just can't do it. So many people I know are depressed or anxious right now (i'm not saying you DD). I suspect what is happening in the country makes people more vulnerable overall, well except for the people enjoying it. I can't even give blood right now. They keep telling me my heart rate is too high, so I'm off to the doctor in a couple of weeks to see about anxiety meds. Not that I blame Trump for that of course. I just think the mood of the country is making those of us already vulnerable worse in some cases.

Yeah, I think most of us here were so horrified by Trump's election because we knew this would happen. I'll admit that it's worse than I thought it would be though. The way people on our boarder are being treated is going to be a shame that follows us just like the internment of the Japanese. If someone had told me that could happen in modern America I would not have believed them even four years ago. The rise of antisemitism is of course disturbing, especially when it's happening in places like France. People just do not learn.

I'm actually surprised those numbers aren't worse. I guess I just don't expect even 2/3 of people to be decent at this point.

He did do that! If that truth is offensive I'm missing it. Look how he treated these folks, with throwing them paper towels. When you disrespect people on that level, you have given your opponent those votes to lose. Of course, that isn't always true given how Trump has treated women and yet he got way too many of our votes.

What stunned me is when people said JS damaged race relations. I'm not the self hating white person type, but what? In the age of Trump, how is that reality? The millions of white people who voted for Trump damaged race relations for a generation. JS is barely a blip on that radar screen. Sure, he gives the nutty racists at Fox something to point at, but they always find something, even if they have to manufacture it. Making an organized effort to recruit voters and listening to their concerns is not treating them like chattel or telling them how to vote. It's politics 101. When you ignore people and their concerns they look to the candidates who at least pretend they matter. That's a lesson Democrats should have learned, but it sounds like some in Florida didn't. If it's true, I don't care who sounds the call or where they do it, as long as someone listens and fixes it before 2020.

It's a lot like 2016, in that it seems impossible on the one hand, and yet you can almost feel history repeating itself. Many on the left are over confident again. There is just no way we can lose right? Look at how awful he is! Look at the poll numbers! I'll never forget how pissed I got at my husband for saying he thought Trump could win it a few weeks before the election. "There is no way in hell that's going to happen!" Well, "we" let the monster in the door and it's not going to be that easy to get it out again. Not just Trump himself, but all the hate and the erosion of Democratic norms. All of the things that helped get us here such as Russian interference and voter suppression are still problems. The only difference is that Trump is already in power this time. Of course, that doesn't even address the people on the far left who want to sabotage any democrat who doesn't fit into their effing revolution.

We'll be lucky if Democrats don't mortally wound their own candidate before the actual election even starts. I remember the years when I looked forward to national elections with a sense of excitement. Now I just dread it.

Trump has a lot of policies that are in conflict with each other. That's what happens when you rule from a place of malice and spite.

But is it really the purity Olympics to say that stuff like this isn't ok? Maybe men could just learn to keep their hands to themselves. I hate that women might have to accept this just to be rid of a monster like Trump. And yeah, you bet I would if that's the choice, but I'm not going to like it. Yeah, I would be disgusted too. Trump has nearly 20 women accusing him of grabbing them, but Democrats just don't get the same leeway, so I do see this as a potential problem. I guess we'll see. I'm terrified of an October surprise.

I hope this is not true, but if it is true, I'm glad it's coming out now. We'll see if there are more in the coming weeks.
