ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Good for her! First of all, she penned a very well written open letter. It is well known that Woods 'likes 'em young' so I cannot fathom who wouldn't by now know that he's a predator. I don't know how many people remember a character named Rianna Miner on Y&R. The second actress to play the character is an actress named Alexis Thorpe, who was on the show between 2000-2002. She played a teenager to barely out of her teens, at the end of her run. Well, she dated James Woods! At the time she was 18. Receipts What's more disturbing is that if you search Alexis Thorpe and James Woods and look under Images (as I just did) you will find other women who are not Alexis but also described as "May-December" also on James Woods' arm, quite a few, in fact. The man has a clear pattern that looks more like a pathology at this point.

This would come as no surprise to many of us that Susan Rice had legitimate reasons for unmasking members of Trump's advisory and transition team but this thread lays it out pretty succinctly. I'm reading that after today's meeting even most Republicans believe that not only did she do nothing wrong but her reasons were justified. Team Trump had two secret meetings with foreign officials, that definitely warrants investigation, don't you think?

ITA that vets like John Dixon were absolutely needed, to maintain that continuity of history that soap fans have come to expect from their shows. I do agree that it's not the best thing to have vets eating up the show but that wasn't ATWT's problem, ATWT's problem was when they had irrelevant characters like Liberty and Janet eating the show. From what I've seen, heard and read, most ATWT fans could care less about the Ciccones. For me, personally, I would have liked to see the next generation of Hughes, Dixons (like Andy's daughter Hope), Stewarts, etc. take more of a lead in some of the storyline and incorporate their parents and grandparents (would've loved to see Kim and Bob mix it up with John and Lucinda over Hope Dixon's anxiety breakdowns in terms of her pushing herself too hard to get to medical school and the problems her binge-drinking to cope have caused). The answer wasn't to push the veterans aside but to have had them actively involved in the storylines of the younger generations in Oakdale. Oh wow. If only there were some way to send her a virtual Happy Birthday!

Forsythe was very active in theater. He also did quite a lot of primetime television, in various roles. When you look at his resume, particularly from the 80s and 90s, it looks quite impressive. They sort of worked out something with Forsythe, even though, unfortnately it meant that viewers rarely got to see David. To be honest, I think down the road in the late 90s, Larry Bryggman would have skirmishes with ATWT over his desire to take on more work outside of ATWT. I wish that they could've found the right balance, although I know money issues came into his dispute with the show as well but I have read instances of a number of soap stars wanting out because they felt they were putting in too many hours on the show, getting burned out while wanting to do other things. The irony is that some actors were complaining of being overused while some were underutilized By the way, thanks for posting these videos, especially the 80s episodes. There are actually episodes here that I don't remember seeing and there are episodes on You Tube that I've worn out, LOL.- The Politics Thread

Maybe, but it might've been dependent on what JC wanted to portray. She may have had no interest in playing another wealthy aristocratic dame. We know she had fun playing Marge and she may have wanted to play a blue collar character or someone in a totally different socio-economic milieu.- Y&R: Old Articles
Me too! I had no idea she was so well acquainted with Marland. Oh, to not only get the chance to see JC and Liz Hubbard, but add it might have drawn a lot of additional interest to the superveterans-- Eileen Fulton, Don Hastings, Kathryn Hays, Larry Brygmann, etc. Would she have been related to Royce and Neal, I wonder?- The Tennis Thread
The women's side by far, had more competitive matches. Really, it was only the women's finals that failed to entertain. While the men had some very entertaining matches, the women have been consistently providing the majority of the most entertaining matches in the Slams all year. Too bad tennis is too chauvinistic to acknowledge this.- The Tennis Thread

Not going to sugarcoat it, that was a boring final and I didn't even see the entire match. Well, Sloane has a major title before Wozniacki, Aga and all them other gals. Congrats to her and her team. *Kanye shrug*- The Tennis Thread
Except for DelPo, these guys are rarely stepping it up, so I don't blame Federer or Nadal for taking trophies. Andy and Novak are not even here as obstacles. The women, on the other hand, are going for the jugular, regardless of whether Serena is around or not because when you think about it, Serena didn't win the U.S. Open last year or the year before, right? I was hoping for someone brand new on the ATP side but it didn't happen and I'm not going to blame Nadal for seizing his opportunities. Fans need to have a talk with the other players in the ATP if they want new winners.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Just posted a clip of Barbara in court in a different thread and came across this in the You Tube sidebar and two things struck me: 1) The way this scene is shot, you don't see soaps do this anymore-- the jury is shot as being more than glorified extras with closeups and panning to individual faces, 2) This actor who played Jason Benedict, I could have seen him with Iva more than the actor they ended up using down the road when they threw he and Iva together. So many possibilities that could've been done (including having him enter Iva's life much earlier and even becoming a rival to Kirk) instead of making him some type of consolation prize for Iva in the long run.- The Tennis Thread

I don't watch a whole lot of 'industry films'. I think "world cinema" does a pretty great job of presenting people who seem very ordinary on the surface that have to do things that go above the average through circumstance. I find myself watching indie films from France and South Africa and New Zealand these days because it just really compelling stories about people that you quickly become concerned about because of how effectively the characters are written. A lot of what we see in the industry (especially the U.S.) can often times be vapid and superficial. You often have to really dig to find the really good stuff.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
In reality that storyline stretched out for about two years, so yeah, that was a shocking moment at the time! I can remember being riveted and rushing home from school to see what happened (I was also setting the VCR for my Mom, who had to work, after teaching myself how to program a VCR). Not just the Lily maternity/paternity reveal but the entire year's worth of stories that unfolded up to that point, from the previous year. There were so many different storylines and characters in action, in wasn't just about couples, you got absorbed in multiple stories and characters. I was a big (Craig and Sierra)Finn and Scott Bryce fan but for some reason, there was so much else going on that it all seemed part of the machinations of ATWT at the time, the show was losing important actors, I was probably just as confounded as to what was happening with Tom and Margo. When Gregg Marx left, I was not pleased, since he and HBS had such easy physical and emotional chemistry. I was only a kid (not even a teenager yet) when this storyline was happening, so I had no idea of the backstage happenings (I didn't read soap magazines or follow behind the scenes stuff), I didn't know that Scott Bryce had actually left the show-- it didn't feel final to me because there was an air of mystery about what actually happened to Craig and Sierra still believed that he was alive, so I was young and naive enough to believe the same. It was irritating when Sierra went missing, at almost the precise time that Craig returned alive but, at that point I was also somehow thinking that she'd turn up as Craig turned up. For some reason, at the time, Craig's subsequent relationships didn't feel permanent and I was able to make peace with Craig and Sierra finally reuniting and riding off into the sunset together. Honestly, I wished ATWT had kept it that way.- The Politics Thread
Some cities and towns may be losing their teachers (and nurses, social workers etc.) in six months and many of these areas are under-served to begin with. For Teachers Working Through DACA, a Bittersweet Start to the School Year In an ideal world, people would realize that these DACA recipients should stay because they belong here but as a POC myself, I am constantly being ask to prove my "worth" and I am a U.S. citizen, that is the way people often see POCs because of rampant stereotypes. This is why I often post these types of articles. I'm not so unrealistic as to believe that people will see the worth of these people just because they are human beings who deserve to be treated as such, that is not what the history of the US has shown me. - The Politics Thread
