  1. The fact is, the Kurds were instrumental in this raid, because they tracked, found and confirmed the location of al-Baghdadi. Given all that, the U.S. still abandoned them with next to no advanced warning that they were doing so.
  2. The story behind that handshake snub is much deeper than what could be conveyed by a short video clip.
  3. Not in terms of chronological age, in terms of demeanor. As someone said upthread, Kiefer had a much more domesticated, soccer mom posture, which reads older and more settled, compared to Stringfield's rebellious 'wild-child' profile.
  4. Trump was probably so sure that the raid on al-Baghdadi would result in people throwing roses at his feet, so he felt it was 'safe' to go out among the unpaid/non-MAGA vetted folk, who would no doubt sing his praises. But people weren't falling for it. Trump and his cronies are so slap-dash in everything they do that people quickly realized that Trump's 'war room' photos (his attempt at creating an Obama moment) were staged and couldn't have been taken at the actual time the raid was taking place. Also, people didn't appreciate Trump's hollow attempts to praise the intelligence community, who did all the heavy lifting, the same intelligence community that he had been belittling and mocking for the past two years. And as Trump lavished praise on himself for the raid (meanwhile al-Baghdadi has likely already been replaced in the terrorist organization), people were unearthing an old tweet of his where he mocked Obama for giving that statement where he described the raid and killing of bin Laden. This, and Trump's hastily put together forum where he tried (unsuccessfully) to tout his justice initiatives to a select group of black people (while the rest were ordered to stay in their rooms and not come out on their own campus), did nothing to bolster his image to the myriad of people who want him out of office. I guess he is shocked to find out that life is vastly different when he's among the people who are not paid actors, MAGA fanatics and cabinet cronies. Speaking of what happened at Benedict College this weekend, this video gives a bit of a summary and crystallizes what happened as a result. Gillum was very diplomatic in his gentle rebuke of Van Jones, who got off easy.
  5. ATWT ended up SORASing itself to death (literally) in that last decade. Many of the ages of the teens and twenty-somethings were all over the place and made little sense in the context of what we'd seen in the previous decade.
  6. Sisco is about four years older than Rossum, which doesn't seem like it would make a difference but if you look at the ages they were at the time the character entered the canvas- Rossum was eleven and Sisco supposedly came on two years later in '99 as a full-fledged, ready-to-date teenager, it looks like a big leap in age. Because the character disappeared for two years, the audience probably didn't really notice. Soap audiences tend to be inured to big leaps in age. This one would of been one of the relative minor ones compared to the drastic way in which they aged other characters.
  7. Since P&G couldn't care less at this point (did they ever?), our only hope seems to be that more actors like Patricia Bruder Debrovner and Margaret Reed upload episodes and reels from their work on the show.
  8. With the lack of episodes throughout the years posted online for some of the show's biggest storylines, the same could probably be said of many of ATWT's episodes.
  9. (*Psst, there's e-mail, Khan).
  10. I'm hearing that the EU has granted the UK an extension until January 2020. I'll have to read about it later.
  11. I was on and off with GL in the 90s (as I was with pretty much every soap at that time) but I remember the first time I tuned in and saw that Sherry Stringfield had left the role, feeling very disappointed. By then, I understood why actors left but it was a big loss for the character and the show. Now I wonder if the casting of Kiefer was to make Ross seem more youthful. The illicit aspect of the Blake/Ross pairing seemed to disappear with Kiefer and ver Dorn paired together and it seemed more like a garden variety love (past) love triangle with Holly. It's strange how many 'couples edits' are on YT for Blake and Ross with Kiefer and ver Dorn in the role when the scenes with Stringfield and ver Dorn were far more steamy and intriguing. I also think the writing did Kiefer no favors-- her Blake was often written to be constantly pining away for marriage and children with Ross. It was annoying. Dennehy gives me Glenn Close vibes, lol. I was always expecting her to say "I will not be ignored!" I think her Blake would've been more cut from the same cloth as Roger but I have a hard time seeing her as being any part of Holly, let alone her daughter.
  12. Seeing snippets of this match (on breaks) between Halep and Andreescu and realizing how Bianca was, at first, thoroughly walloping Halep and how Simona has by degrees, proceeded to wear down Bianca in the second set and just clicking back on to see Andreescu on the floor getting medical treatment gives me the distinct impression that Bianca is the type of player who will be beset by injuries over the course of her career. She's only a teenager still and has already spent a significant amount of time on the DL. I don't expect that to improve as she gets older. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up spending swaths of her career out injured in between the successful runs. So apparently, Simona decided she wanted "in" on the MTO attention too and decided to take one virtually at the same time. These girls.
  13. Joe and Mika are being roundly criticized on Twitter, add those to the many who have avowed to just ignore these two hosts. Trump himself has insulted them repeatedly, so his fanatics hate them. Where do Joe and Mika go from here? Does anybody really care? To paraphrase @JaneAusten , who even watches Morning Joe anymore? It's been a good five or six years since I've bothered with that show. Everyone knows that Rachel Maddow gives MSNBC whatever ratings boost they've gotten these days. Morning Joe is trying to be relevant. Joe and Mika will fall off trending in a few hours. #LockHimUp has been steadily trending since last night and will likely continue to trend the rest of the day.
  14. Thanks for trying, @DRW50 I appreciate this. It's so bizarre because she didn't appear in the 1970s, it's the late 90s so I figured those episodes would've been uploaded somewhere. Geez. I really wish bandstandmike was a ATWT fan too because he seems to have all of the 90s and between he and others on YT, Guiding Light seems covered from the '80s onward! Hey, if you don't laugh, you cry, at this point.
  15. I'm not even sure why folks continue to respond to this trolling. I asked if anyone had a link to the episodes where Rossum appeared. I'm not asking for dates or biographies, I am literate, so I can read that all on the thousands of Wiki pages online. I wanted to SEE a clip or a full episode of her appearance on the show because I was curious and I'm seeing all this nonsense with song clips that have nothing to do with ATWT. I didn't respond to that madness because those posts are irrelevant and have nothing to do with the question I asked. I'm not taking the bait, so why are others? The more you respond, the longer you prolong this mess that's happening on this messageboard. She's putting the MESS in messageboard and some of you are falling for it.
  16. Stop treating black people in this country (and elsewhere) as if we're a monolith because we're not. I have good, long-existing friendships with black people who live in the South (some in the "Bible Belt") and the midwest who are unquestioningly liberal. It's the same nonsense thinking that proposes the idea that the working class could only ever be white. There are no doubt some 'traditionalist' blacks and a few of those are avowedly conservative but you will also see more white conservatives in those same areas. Go onto social media and type Buttigieg's name in the search bar and compare the number people with AVIs that have white faces vs. black and see their comments about Buttigieg, you will find far more comments from those with AVIs with white faces making Bible quoting comments that are quite personal directed at Buttigieg. At this time, the Buttigieg campaign is having fundraisers being thrown by pharmaceutical companies (many of which are the subject of lawsuits for various reasons) but by all means lets blame blacks in the South as the reason he's not getting the traction some think he deserves.
  17. Is this making the news in the U.S.? This seems to be making news abroad today.
  18. With the WTA being staged in Shenzhen where war games and military maneuvers are being staged in response to the protests in Hong Kong, and now John Isner, MAGAt playing in KSA, no one can tell me that sport and politics don't intersect, because they clearly do and always have!
  19. Honestly, Reva was a far more interesting character when she played the town vamp. I can't stand it when soaps take a character who was a vixen or a tramp (Reva was a combination of both) and then try to practically canonize her. I don't think it is uncharacteristic of Reva to mock or taunt someone who she considered a rival, because past behavior shows that Reva could often go very "low", right down in the mud. I think it was more insincere for the show to ever have tried to paint Reva as some type of heroine (to be honest, I think that's when a lot of people began to tire of the character). It's almost as ridiculous as when Y&R tried to make Phyllis Summers into a heroine.
  20. I was going to post a stupid, incoherent response Bernie gave to a black male student about what he should do if stopped by the police but why bother? It made me upset and it's not worth posting anyway.
  21. Eww, I'm just finding out about Reilly Opelka's father!
