Listening to Yovanovitch now and she is clear, forthright and compelling.

Honestly, I don't know what thread to put this madness.

And I was wondering when Bloomberg's known history of making sexist and sexually derogatory remarks would start to be discussed again and that day has arrived apparently. Those remarks didn't seem to hinder his mayoral campaigns, so it is little wonder that he thinks it's no big deal if they re-emerge during a presidential candidacy.

Welp! Only in the race a day and already people are finding and posting some very troubling judgement calls made by former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick. This thread is a harrowing but informative read. Seems like the association to Bain Capital may be the least of Patrick's problems.

Federer was like "Novak, you're not beating my as$ six times in a row!" I hardly got a chance to watch the match, I didn't think it would be over that quickly!

CNN doesn't want to be left out, of course. Geez, what if all these publications had given that same energy with printing articles that pushed back on the narrative being built about Hillary's e-mails? We might be in a different (better) place right now?

Is it any wonder why people can't take Politico seriously?

I think Patrick's very lucrative association with Bain Capital could be a big problem for him. I mention that because Bain Capital is venture (some would say "vulture") capital firm that is not so much known as a 'turnaround company' as it is best known for stripping struggling companies for parts and making profit from the process. It's not about making corporate speeches or anything like that. Bain Capital did Romney no favors during his presidential bid, and I foresee it being a similar, if not larger problem for Patrick in his run. People talk about Obama the centrist but Obama came out of public advocacy, not the corporate world.

Speaking of another African-American running for president, I hear now that former governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick has decided to run. Whew, Elizabeth Warren can't be pleased about this.

TBH, I haven't had much time to watch the livestream but on a break, I did catch a glimpse of Reince Priebus trying to spin basic facts away. He just looks so pathetic.- The Politics Thread

That the Republicans are not trying to reach is not at all shocking. They're not even trying to pretend and have clearly dispensed with the "model minority" distinction-- they pretty much view any non-white groups as potentially disloyal and quasi-enemies. Just a few days ago, Trump was trying to pretend as if his fake overtures to African Americans were worth anything with that sham gathering in Atlanta on Friday. Today, one of his key advisers has been publicly exposed as a white supremacist (for the people in the back who weren't paying attention). How's that going to square with his pretend overtures?- The Politics Thread
I agree. And the people shrugging their shoulders at this as if it was understood need to understand that this is often the reason why marginalized people feel the need to iterate and reiterate how awful and disgusting these types of things are, the horrifying nature of this cannot be overstated and it should never be shrugged off.- The Tennis Thread
LOL. Contentious.- The Politics Thread
Another example of just how poorly Chuck Todd continues to do his job. It's good that Rep. Jim Himes corrected him. Some are calling this a rant, but I don't agree with that. Himes seemed perfectly rational in his assessment of the situation and he laid it all out there in an even-keeled methodical way. If he had been less impassioned, these same people would have claimed that he was being professorial and removed, the way they often accused Obama of being.- The Tennis Thread
Interesting that coming off his DQ in Charlottesville, Mmoh wins the next tournament he plays in Knoxville. He was very forthright in talking about his actions in Charlottesville and the regret he will always feel because of those actions. Of course, he talks about other things, like making his way back from injury (I had no idea he had been injured).- The Politics Thread
Oh. My. God. These people are horrible human beings. I've never taken an Uber and I may never take one at this rate. I just can't with these people and their terrible ideas and mindset.- The Tennis Thread
Thiem must be in Roger's head with that H2H and it showed. I'd be interested in seeing the stats because Roger did not look good out there, some sloppy play. Kiki didn't just have a good day, she had a great weekend! The French team really couldn't have won without her. Does she have a new coach yet? It will be interesting to see if this makes some available coach take a look at the possibility of coaching her. The French system truly fosters a team-centric work ethos. Both the men's and women's teams seem to really form strong teams and have remarkable results.- The Politics Thread
Yesss! Finally!! Goodbye. I do think some campaigns are paying attention to certain pockets but I don't believe that much of the media is. Very few media outlets talked about the South Asian community's voting habits in Virginia. Traditionally, much of the focus tends to be on East Asian communities but not so much South East Asian (Hmong, Thai, Cambodian, Vietnamese Americans) and rarely South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi Americans).- The Politics Thread
Speaking of media not spending time reporting on certain issues, imo it's downright odd that there are all these forums that are not being reported about in the news. I had no idea Democracy Now had hosted a town hall. If it weren't for this exchange between Amy Goodman and Elizabeth Warren, I might have never known. FWIW, I do think that the question is a valid one because we know that for some candidates, New Hampshire and Iowa have been made out to be "make or break", while another candidate is skipping both altogether. Warren's reaction to the question, though, was not very good.- The Tennis Thread
I agree with this. I'm not trying to be dismissive of Berrettini but Novak demonstrated how many holes there are in his game just by switching up the pace of his shots and refusing to trade FH strokes from the baseline. I agree about Monfils, who, despite his posturing, let nervousness and an unfamiliar opponent get the better of him in NYC. Today, I did hear some tennis fans on twitter request Monfils to be subbed in, in place of Berrettini, LOL. No such luck because if anyone withdraws, we're going to get Bautista-Agut. No thanks, lol. Novak's team prepared him well to play Berrettini, who was a bit nervous and uncomfortable and never got a foothold in the match, mainly because Djokovic wouldn't let him. Anyone who wants to beat Berrettini going forward needs to watch that match, Novak provided a very clear primer on how to beat Berrettini. Don't give Matteo a clean, flat, hard-hit ball because he feasts off it. Add variety to the choice of shots and mix up the pace. Don't allow Matteo to camp on the baseline and trade forehand shots. Also, exploit his dodgy volleys.- The Tennis Thread
Watching this Djokovic/Berrettini match and has Matteo's return always been this bad? Novak curled in a meatball second serve and Matteo swatted at it and dumped the return in the bottom of the net. Even Novak was like "welp", lol. - The Politics Thread
