The Tennis Thread
A lot of people speaking about specifics of this don't seem to know just how dysfunctional the pro-tennis tours and industry are. People claiming that Naomi is under contract to fulfill these post-match press conferences. Wut? The only contracts Osaka has is with her sponsors and those are almost always based on her on court results. Others saying that Osaka should consult her union. Wut?! Tennis players don't have a union. Anyone who has ever read a transcript or seen one of these post-match press conferences know that these journalists don't even identify themselves before asking their questions. When the US Open wanted to live stream the journalists asking the players questions, many balked because they didn't want to be seen on the Livestream. Anyone who has read a transcript from or seen one of those post-match press conferences has heard some of the most ill-informed questions and ridiculous comments like asking women players why they don't smile or if two black players are playing each other in a match, trying to draw similarities simply because both are black and female. Picture the Hollywood Foreign Press, but tennis. Naomi suggested that perhaps the tennis press could ask better questions and they are fuming. I haven't really paid attention to these post-match press conferences in a decade (other than a clip, here and there) because most have been pointless. I haven't read a transcript in over a decade because they don't even bother to release on time (if it's so vital to people's understanding of the sport, why not?) and the questioning often offers very little insight. At worst, it is usually an effort to break down players who are already down from a loss (or confident from a win). I will never forgive them for how they treated Venus after that fatal car accident she was involved in. Why ask those questions at a post-match press conference after a tennis match? And Billie Jean King saying that because players in her day had to endure this that so should Naomi? It's so obvious that King has a business stake and she is no longer interested in the players, her concern for their well-being is conditional.

Carly reminds me a lot of that Marcy character (not the one played by Marisa Tomei) in the early 90s, the one that was involved with Linc and on occasion, in cahoots with Lucinda, aggravating Connor Walsh, especially when played by the blonde actress. Anytime I see scenes of her, I can't help but think that she could've been an early prototype for Carly. Those promos all look like they have that "soap opera effect" that tech people like to so derisively use when describing poor picture quality. Why do all the scenes in the promos in gauzy sepia and neutral tan tones.

Well damn.😔 I wish her well. RG and the rest should feel embarrassed. They handled this situation very poorly. Having every single player they could find comment their disagreement with her choice right as the tournament was getting underway seemed to be in particularly poor taste. It was meant to sting and they achieved their aim.

The French ceased to be in my top tier of tennis tournaments about a decade ago. The FFT is trash, even to some of their own players.

I'd be surprised if Netanyahu faced any jail time. It's the prosecution and banishment from ever taking public office that I was mainly speaking of. If Trump's "fortune" and influence are severely reduced, that would also be a good thing. The reality is that many people are found guilty of committing criminal and civil crimes and never see a lick of jail time. Especially if they are rich white men.

Boy, it seemed like I was posting articles about Bibi facing charges and being kicked out of office for years! So much so, that I got tired of the false alarms. The alternative in the government is not great but nonetheless at least they didn't fall for the usual scare tactics that Netanyahu uses to cling to power. Speaking of Bibi, you know who else soon won't be able to use the shield of 'head of state' to shield himself from facing criminal and civil charges? Take a guess.😏- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Phil Morris was on the season finale of A Black Lady Sketch Show alongside Kik Wayans, Tyler James Williams and others. I saw the photo stills but as I post this, I still have yet to see this. Looking forward to it.- The Politics Thread
For as much as Dianne Morales clearly had the ability to build an enthusiastic base, I knew her campaign would stall at some point because like many far-left candidates, as enthusiastic as that base may be, it is still smaller than Democratic candidates who are closer to the center, even in a city like NYC. Having said all that, how the New York Times reports on women candidates, particularly women candidates of color always gives me more than pause-- I tend to develop a serious case of side-eye because the coverage is usually littered with similar hallmarks, if not the exact same descriptors. A campaign in crisis, via poor management and dereliction of duty, inattention. Still, when one your top campaign managers calls for the resignation of your campaign, clearly there are problems. I think that might be 'all she wrote' for the Morales for Mayor 2021 campaign.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?

You really found it on your own, but if my suggestion led to you checking other video platforms, which eventually led you to the video, then I'm glad. 🤗 There is a video of Kadeem Hardison being asked for his thoughts on why ADW had not gotten a reboot and he hinted that certain powers that be would not allow it to happen, although he admitted it was speculation on his part. It's sad that they won't allow a reboot, which has great potential, unlike the majority of the reboots that have already happened.- A Different World (TV Series)
You're right, it's not there. I could've sworn I watched it on YouTube (have you checked Daily Motion?), it might have been removed. As an aside, man is there a lot click-baity junk that came up when I searched on YouTube!- A Different World (TV Series)
Thanks for posting. It was a good read but I admit, I would have traded all of the comments from Lena Waithe and anyone else not connected with the making of ADW for a couple of comments from Lisa Bonet (although I already figured that she would not be involved in this) or even one comment from Bonet and one from Tomei (did anyone try to contact Marisa? I don't think the article ever said. Some of this information I already knew and some of confirmed or debunked things I'd heard. It was good to hear the actual account if events. I remember feeling irritated and a bit sad when I saw that Martin and ADW were running opposite each other in the same time slot. Reminiscent of what I read about The Cosby Show and Charlie And Company. With as few sitcoms with majority black casts as there were back then, somehow networks always found a way to run them in direct competition. Did you ever see this? I think someone posted that episode on YouTube. It was Unsung Hollywood. Far from comprehensive but makes for interesting viewing.- The Tennis Thread
A few reporters, and some self-appointed respectability police are losing their sh*t and it's hilarious to be honest. Also, this made me titter.- A Different World (TV Series)
Thanks! I was just thinking about ADW yesterday--wondered why episodes were allowed to be edited, depending on platform (on Netflix, episodes were intact, the way they were originally aired as opposed to when heavily edited episodes were rerun on television).- The Media/Journalism Thread
Putting the unsettling aspect of billionaires (once again consolidating even more power, which they then exercise over the rest of the population) aside for one moment, someone mentioned that this will mean that Bezos will also effectively be buying "those Apprentice tapes". Also, with Bezos buying up half the U.S. corporate media and real estate, shouldn't his companies be able to afford to pay every employee and contractor above living wage (I'm not even sure all Amazon employees are being paid a living wage)?- The Politics Thread

This has not been getting much attention among Western news outlets, but there may be an emerging constitutional crisis in Samoa, which has been a relatively stable nation politically, albeit one apparently ruled by one party for a couple decades now.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Although the romantic relationship between Lyla and Cal confounded me, Cal playing Secret Santa to her and Katie was really sweet. I always thought that Carl Gordon as Jessica's father was a terrific casting choice. Many of the episodes uploaded to YouTube that feature the Griffin family seem to be of the actor recast as Mr. Griffin--so much so, that I was beginning to wonder if maybe I had imagined that Gordon was the original Mr. Griffin. Perhaps when he got cast in 'Roc', he was too busy to reprise the role? Tonio and a recasted Sabrina seem so odd together. The Sabrina played by Moore was no glassy-eyed naif, and she certainly wouldn't be taken in by Tonio's overtures. In fact, Moore's Sabrina would likely be pulling the strings or at least the maneuvering would be mutually agreed upon by both parties. Sabrina had been a clear-eyed character, even when clearly in the wrong. On separate note, I was again thinking how good it could be be hear from Jennifer Ashe and someone like Peter Boynton, especially since both are heavily involved in the theater, as of late. I took a look at Ashe's website and saw a photo of her and Meg Ryan in her picture gallery. I don't know what year that photo was taken but they both looked pretty young. I wonder what the story behind that is.- Y&R: Old Articles

To be honest, I don't think I felt anything for the character of Nathan after Nathan Purdee left the role. The Keesha storyline, to me, was more a chance to see Olivia's range of emotions and to see TLW shine more as an actress. It was more about the other characters (Olivia, Dru, Neil) and how they discovered and dealt with the affair and its aftermath, imo.- The Tennis Thread
