  1. This isn’t some nondescript Midwestern town, this is the District of Columbia and/ DMV area with a very distinct cultural imprint. There will need to be some indication of specificity of place, or else why both naming the setting with a real (and really distinct) city? It would defeat the entire purpose of setting the story in a recognizable place.
  2. Quite some time ago, someone in the Y&R thread had proposed the idea of having Neil putting Hilary somewhere hidden. At first, I didn’t like the idea because I assumed that it would make Neil the bad guy and I hated the idea of posthumously making such a drastic change in his character. The other day though, I thought what if Hilary was being threatened by someone and turned to Neil for help and his solution was to hide her away until the threat was removed? I thought of a scenario where Hilary, in an effort to revive GC Buzz as a news and current events journal, rather than a gossip vlog and a story that she was secretly pursuing caused her to receive threats to her (and Devon’s) lives. Hilary, wanting to protect Devon goes to Neil for help, swearing him to secrecy. Neil, goes to Victor, to ask what contacts he might have but doesn’t tell Victor why. Victor trusts that it is for a just cause, tells Neil to “say less” and gives a Neil the contacts (it might be cool if Larry Wharton turns out to be one of, but not the crucial contacts) he desperately needs. In the midst of Neil’s sudden death, Hilary (who doesn’t know of his passing) is cut off from every and all things in GC. She doesn’t know that Neil hired a private investigator to find out who was threatening Hilary and Devon and the PI, whose only direct connect was Neil sent a message through an encrypted private message that not only was Neil the sole person who knew the password to unlock the message but no one else knew the existence of this line of communication in the first place. There are are only three people who know that Hilary is alive and only two who know how to get to her and one of them is dead. The account that sent automatic payments to midwife/caretaker for the care of Hilary and the baby has just run completely out of funds and is forced to admit as much to Hilary who had suspected for some time that something happened to Neil. Now she is sure she has to find out as well as whether Neil was able to neutralize the threat as he promised. She enlists the help of the caretaker and gives her a slip of paper that she says contains the name of the only person who is likely to have the resources to help. Later the caretaker has brought some groceries to stock the pantry and storage. The caretaker has her bag packed, as Hilary assures her that she is confident that she has memorized the codes to the security system as the caretaker urges Hilary to take all precautions and hands Hilary a burner phone and tells her she will be in touch. She gives Hilary a hug and the toddler a cuddle and sets out into the darkness of night. Later, the caretaker is seen at an airstrip. While on the small plane, she unfolds and stares at the strip of paper. The name Victor Newman is scrawled in faint script.
  3. Just as an aside, the stock market ended up while Truth Social/DJT continues to fall.
  4. Those are two separate issues afaic. She can still be relevant as an entertainer (every Superbowl her name trends) but it doesn’t mean we want her advice on political issues. There are some artists and entertainers for whom there will always be interest in the broad expanse of their views, while others… I actually think the questions being asked these days also lack depth, but that’s another story.
  5. Y&R, if they cared to genuinely get some engagement with potential fans of the upcoming soap, would figure out a resurrection story for Hilary. Just in the time of mentioning this I came up with one lol.
  6. Michael did indeed have vitiligo. It didn’t really explain why he felt the need to have such extreme plastic surgery though. I do try to show grace since both Michael and Janet did express how, at times, their looks were attacked by other family members (Janet even admitted that, as much as she loved Michael, he also was among those that taunted her about the size of her rear end, which was likely one of the aspects that set her on a path to equating her value with her weight). The family was also raised as Jehovah’s Witnesses, which, although they definitely had a lower and higher hierarchy, tried to present an idealized version of humanity with no identity other than being members of Kingdom Hall and the supposedly small number people headed for paradise. JW don’t vote, so who knows whether she will even bother to cast her vote, one way or the other. Someone who might not even vote, why are we asking for their political views?
  7. I was more thinking about the family surname Dupree and wondering if it signifies some type of Creole heritage.
  8. The effect is absolutely negligible. It has caused people to question the Jackson’s relationship to their Blackness and the possibility of vulnerability to misinformation for people over 55 but that’s about it.
  9. Time for the more savvy youngins to talk to their tíos, tías, abuelitos and abuelitas. By the way, the largest groups of Latinos in the U.S. are Mexicans and Puerto Ricans, something that BBC article neglected to mention.
  10. This industry needs to start over. Fresh.
  11. A small bit of food for thought, probably more trivia than anything else but, I have been thinking about how the recent mini scandal with P&G and one of their recently acquired brands might possibly have an effect on the PR for this show. In a deft stroke of ingenuity, there has been apparent diminution of P&G’s role in the production of this soap, which is probably for the best. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, nevermind lol.
  12. Janet Jackson, bless her heart, clearly doesn’t read the newspaper or even watch a legitimate news program. Some time ago, I posted about celebrities sometimes being far removed from reality. Living in rarefied air, I think I said then. Exhibit A. And as someone who lost an older brother a year ago,of course I empathize with her loss at this time.
  13. Lauryn Hill is joining the Lin-Manuel Miranda’s concept album for the Warriors …yes, that Warriors. Meet Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis' All-Female Warriors; Ms. Lauryn Hill Also Joins Upcoming Concept Album
  14. Again. Sadly, this was a preoccupation that I mentioned almost a year ago.
  15. And her campaign has more money to spend. Harris campaign reports spending nearly three times as much as Trump in August
  16. This reminds of Kathryn Hays, in a way, though Vanessa and Kim were on opposite sides of the same coin. Vanessa could be cool to people, to the point of icing them out. Kim was perceptibly a warmer character who came off as “sunny” but when she snapped, it could make your head spin. Judging by the “Golly!” and “Kiddo”s, just by her tone, she made it clear how she felt. John Dixon was on the receiving end of both eye rolls, haughty laughter and a shaking of the head, so we always knew how Kim felt. Neither actress got their due for how consistently they delivered their performances.
  17. Thanks for providing the links. According to what these links say, whinge is actually an older word than whine. It’s not slang. I have heard people in academia use the word. Mainly in the U.K. though.
  18. Isn’t whinge a word that mainly British people use to essentially convey the same thing?
  19. Maeve could do her own unique version of what I like to refer to as the ‘soap opera seethe’. I don’t watch any of today’s current daytime soaps (hopefully that changes next year) but I doubt anyone does something on this level. The restraint to hold back fury, while giving the appearance of having ice in one’s veins that they could freeze someone completely out.
  20. YouTube is streaming a marathon of Season 1 reboot.
  21. A milestone.
  22. You’re welcome. I’m watching too!
  23. Too late by Maná’s standards lol. They are much more well known than him so he needed them far more than they would ever need him. Wise move to dump his azz ASAP. Some people are claiming that it was in response to being misgendered but his reaction in the moment was to laugh it off which make me believe that he saw the response from Maná and tried to shut it down. Too late. Republicans are stuck with him and it couldn’t happen to a more deserving group.
