Also, the unnecessary ringing of hands of Dems can only be tolerated for so long before it becomes very very tiresome. I understand not wanting people to become complacent by downplaying chances but it risked encouraging people to feed into a doom loop of hopelessness. Hopefully this will give people some positive reinforcement.

Yes, definitely and I would say the same of that town where that Yemeni mayor of the Michigan town has endorsed TFg. There is a serious split there as other Muslims who reside there, who are originally from nations like Bangladesh and other nations vehemently oppose this mayor’s endorsement and it may very well cost him his position in the end as he has angered many, not just other Muslim residents who balk at endorsing a candidate with such anti immigrant and anti Muslim rhetoric. Apparently, the chaos at the L.A. Times has been going on for several months with the executive editor resigning in January of this year. That’s a lot of turbulence.

Those of us who have been paying attention to Harris’ work over several years are already aware of these initiatives but it is somewhat unfortunate that she feels as if she cannot (or perhaps was advised not to) speak about her work in these areas, especially seeing as it has yielded some genuine and substantial benefits to many in need. President Biden demonstrated the courage of his convictions to stand up and speak a direct, genuine and heartfelt apology on behalf of the government to the victims of those forced to live at those boarding schools constructed for Native American children. It needed to be said and Biden declared that the apology was overdue. This is what leadership looks like and needs to continue to be going forward.

Lauryn runs hot and cold. Any performance involving her son Y.G. and she shows up! She did a sizzling set in Jamaica over the summer which left many of her U.S. fans steamed. There, she not only showed up, she showed out! It was actually phenomenal. Sorry to those folks she bailed on previously but she demonstrated that when she actually puts the effort in, she still ‘got it’. And thankfully, she’s not running for president, although people seem hold her to a higher standard than a man who is running for president. Go figure.

Lauryn Hill without the brilliance or talent of any kind. Trump must be bored with his own rallies.

Even Trump is bored with his rallies. How much off beat swaying to Lee Greenwood can one do before losing what shred of interest remained?

He hasn’t gotten to the unwashed and unkempt stage of the transformation yet like others such as Mel Gibson who looks as if he now eats raw meat regularly, so there’s still more descent yet for Levi perhaps.

Y&R: October 2024 Discussion Thread
Although I would agree that Y&R never excelled in humour overall, certain characters/actors did. Terry “Smilin’ Jack” Lester definitely had standout moments, Dru/VR had them with Neil/KSJ and Sharon/SC. Even Nikki and Sharon had some moments, over the years. With the way the Victor character has evolved (some might say devolved) over decades, he’s likely too far gone to reel him back. And you’re right, JG doesn’t have the skill set anyway. But, as morose as some like to speak of Douglas Marland, he was able to give a far more intense character like James Stenbeck some wit that still adhered to his intense personality. It’s part of humanizing the character. I can’t remember the last time I saw Victor as being fully human, rather than a type.

Sadly, they will continue to do this as long as folks continue to take the bait. People’s anxieties are fodder for their entertainment and stories.

Y&R: October 2024 Discussion Thread
Humour and drama work together. That’s why the theatre mask has both the comedy and the drama. Even Shakespeare’s tragedy had humorous bits. You really need both. The definition of drama is not the absence of humour, the definition of drama is conflict…which tbh, JG doesn’t know how to do proficiently either.

Y&R: October 2024 Discussion Thread
That is very cool. I am almost tempted to watch the episode when it debuts. On another note, that joke that Melody told about Eric carrying her up the stairs again and Eric’s reaction made me wonder why, in the last times I have watched Y&R they don’t give Nikki and Victor a sense of humor, at least in how they relate to each other. The last time I watched, Victor was constantly ‘babying’ Nikki, almost like she was a child or a porcelain doll but the way Eric and MTS banter with each other IRL is more entertaining to me. One of the things I miss about when I used to watch ATWT was how quirky and funny they would make characters like Lucinda Walsh and John Dixon and Lisa. Even Bob Hughes would give a “Grouch Marx” laugh and a Dad joke, every now and then.

Anyone who sees Cooper as controlling the moment during that segment is seeing something completely different from what I saw. Don’t get me wrong, Charlemagne is far from special, he handled AC the manner that any dude in the barbershop could have flustered Cooper but the point is that Charlemagne did frazzle AC and it showed and I agree that AC did not have the wherewithal to recover during that segment.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Brian McColl worked best as something of a hothead imo but yeah, with Tom Hughes occupying a very clear place on the canvas, there seemed to be less room for a Brian (unless they were going to make him Tom’s opposite, a confirmed bachelor, maybe a dedicated “player” and womanizer). When he appeared on Y&R for a brief story arc, he portrayed a sleazy politician which MP seemed to get into with gusto with success.

BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
Wasn’t Scandal a soap, albeit a primetime soap? I don’t think daytime dramas can rebuild relevance without some risk. I get a lot of reports concerning the state of the entertainment industry and the studies cited illustrate that topical subject matter with diverse BIPOC casts tends to result in very successful ratings and box office. Shondaland was built on this principle. Something tells me that Rhimes might just be a major influence on what MVJ is trying to achieve.

Charlemagne, not my favorite but he made several salient points and I appreciated his relentlessness about driving those points repeatedly. The fact that he had Anderson Cooper frazzled was kind of the cherry on top of the parfait. Another aspect that I don’t think media is up to having an honest discussion about is how these billionaires are wrecking these legacy newspapers for the benefit of their own personal interests.
