This does not sound good to me. Chinese Researchers Reportedly Crack Encryption With Quantum Computer Is it just me or does there seem to be a paucity of honest to goodness innovation? It’s as if the scammers, data scrapers and malware instigators are forging ahead but personal tech seems redundant in form and function these days.

Yet another Trump commutation re-offends. Unsurprising, since in the final days of his presidency, he was doling out commutations and pardons to the highest bidders, instead of to those who had truly paid their debts to society and demonstrated their commitment to not re-offending. After Trump commutation, Esformes arrested on domestic violence-related charges in Miami Beach

I am absolutely here for the Paddy Chayefsky references. I have always aspired to be able to write in all three media the way he did. Back on topic, I have been seeing people warn people who are very much online to be careful of the junk polls and allowing themselves to become submerged in anxiety and fear and doom and gloom. Operating out of fear has never been the way we make progress as a society. It’s the opposite.- The Media/Journalism Thread
@janea4oldOh wow, I had no idea it had been discussed/posted previously. For the past several days, I had only made scant appearances on this message board. I guess this might mean that the NYT is actually making some sort of effort to circulate this article but yeah, this was sort of a backhanded compliment to certain corners of the media for finally getting around to paying some attention to how great the deterioration of Trump has been over time, and the belated acknowledgment that it’s not just some business titan making zany comments here and there.- The Media/Journalism Thread
New York Times finally published an in depth article chronicling Trump’s incoherent ramblings and incorrect memories with the underlying premise of his age being a factor. Of course, he’s a liar but the article mentioned his exclaiming that the crowd went wild for him during his debate with VP Harris. Except there was no crowd.- The Media/Journalism Thread
Funny, that I knew so very little about Nuzzi outside of the drip drips of her controversies, because I honestly had previously read almost none of her writing. Now it’s just so much messiness and I am feeling like I am reading entirely too much about her. Have we really had a discussion about the news writers and journalists who are leaving legacy newspapers and news journals/outlets for the indie route (newsletters, social media platforms, etc.) and what, if any effect it will have on the nature of news reporting and news media?- The Tennis Thread
I have been waiting for some time to see Fils really begin to make good on his potential. I hope this is just the beginning for him.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread
Yes, when Kristofferson’s passing was announced, that memory of him trying to calm the crowds of people trying to unleash their anger at Sinead came to mind immediately. This has been a tough week in many regards. R.I.P. John Amos a magnetic, expressive actor who will be remembered for three highly memorable roles, that of James Evans on Good Times, Kunta Kinte in Roots and Cleo McDowell in Coming To America. R.I.P. to Mutombo. The fact that the continent of Africa now has its own NBA training program is as a result to African giants in the NBA, of which Dikembe Mutombo is one. Happy 100th Birthday to President Jimmy Carter. Despite all the challenges that President Carter has had to endure, especially in the last several years, he has met each challenge with enormous grace. His life is a testimony to service to humanity and no detractors (many of whom he has outlived) can ever take that away from him. We are truly blessed to be alive in an era where President Carter is here alive on this planet that we all share.- The Politics Thread
