I didn’t see your response as a dismissal of those concerns at all. One of the things I appreciate most about this message board in particular is the fact that we can discuss these issues and I appreciate it being brought up. It is indeed early casting and I expect to see the spectrum of skin tones and shades represented. I also hope whoever is peeping our comments on this board will be reminded that we are mindful so they should also be mindful. I admit, I didn’t pay much attention to the earlier character descriptions because I knew there would be some changes. I think of my own writing of characters and there are almost always changes.

Not to stir up anything but I do think @Darn’s concerns are valid. We do need a diversity of skin tones, hair textures, etc if this is going to be a good representation of even a family. Colorism is a real issue (even KSJ spoke in somewhat scathing terms of Y&R’s issues with colorism. In addition to TT, I also said that I want TP and LL and LR because all are talented (TP is also a singing powerhouse), experienced in the daytime soap world and telegenic. We do need to see the skin tone spectrum represented and to avoid those mistakes borne of pathology that have been committed on soaps of the previous generations.

Yeah, I think that the core family cast should take priority. It’s very early casting announcements.

The thought did cross my mind lol. I would love to see Lamman Rucker and Loren Lott cast too.

Tamara Tunie and Tonya Pinkins were my two top picks for women characters. I am also hoping that Tonya Pinkins will be in the cast as well.

It’s disturbing. I remember some people were asking for a recast Olivia. So why not her? I mean, it would be odd to see someone other than Tonya but at least Olivia’s son is on the canvas so there would be some connection. It feels like they want to bring on another character from one of the show’s golden years just to ruin her. When I first saw the headline, I was dubious but thought I would see what it was about, maybe tune to see how Williams is doing. Now I’m sure I won’t watch.

Sorry, but it’s a no for me. As much as I like Pettiford, I am not digging this, she should be playing a new character. There’s absolutely no reason to bring back the character, as 90% of the characters she interacted with aren’t even on the show anymore.

In a way, this reminds me of Trump. When certain people get to a station in life where they believe they have been elevated to such a rarified air that they cannot be touched, their abuse of their status and other people will usually follow as a result. It’s about exploitation of their power and on other people. At a certain point, no one will tell them “no” because those people are gone for whatever reason, so they are surrounded by people who cater to their worst impulses. People may spin out eventually, while people like Combs and Trump become more vile with each passing year. Both Trump and Combs aspire to be mafiosos. Listen to the way they express themselves, the language they use. When you go back in each man’s personal history, each was far from the tough guy persona he tries to portray himself as being.

This obituary by The New York Times offers a bit more detail on Michaela DePrince’s life, especially the last few years, which included a no doubt very painful rupture of her Achilles heel, the death of her adoptive father, a surprising move back to the U.S. (because it essentially involved taking a lower status role as 2nd soloist, leaving behind a first soloist position) due to her adoptive father’s illness. There seemed to have been the occurrence a lot of personal and emotional upheaval. It’s not clear if there is any connection to what seems to be her untimely death but it really seems to add to a life of triumph, pathos, perseverance and determination over tragedy.
