  1. So, Sharapova is a first ballot pick for the HOF, doping be damned? Definitely paving the way for Simona and Sinner, when the time comes, I guess.
  2. Wannabe oligarch who wants to control the content of the newspaper he managed to acquire. Apparently, he was born in South Africa. No, not that wannabe oligarch. LA Times editorials editor quits after billionaire owner reportedly blocked paper from endorsing Harris
  3. It makes me wonder if perhaps, instead of January, they are looking to premiere in February or March. Didn’t B&B premiere in March? It seems to have worked for them. Of course, February has cultural significance.
  4. Speaking of Black voters, I just voted Blue all the way through!
  5. Whoa. https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/upld/thumbnails/en/information/nhkworld_chinese_language_radio_news_bulletin_20241011.pdf My point is that the very community that these tactics are supposed to reach don’t care to respond, this is not 2016. Owens and Brown are jokes that nobody within the community take seriously.
  6. Not trying to be rude or mean but are you sure these are real Black men and not people posing as Black men? The round table discussions I have watched Black men are saying, that while they don’t think they are the problem (still noting how many white men and white women who were formerly Democrats-anyone remember those who claimed to have voted for Obama twice before voting for 45?-broke bad for 45) the majority said they understood why Obama felt compelled to speak and say what he said. And what we’re not gonna do is use the likes of Candace Owens and Joe Brown (last seen trying to beg his estranged wife to reunite with him) as representative of any sort of community lol. ‘Judge’ Joe Brown and Candace Owens spent years denigrating Black men, wtf would any listen to either of them now?? Are people still breathlessly watching these polls? Seriously?
  7. Sometime ago, I posted the possibility that they may not go full tilt in promotion until after the election. Consider it- the attention of the majority of the target audience will likely be consumed with the campaign of VP Harris through Election Day. Would they really want to try to compete with that?
  8. I also preferred Yolanda to Harmony. I think Debbi Morgan was miscast as was new Tucker (Stephen Nichols). Of course, it didn’t help that the writing was so convoluted scattershot and just plain goofy. From what I saw, her recent appearances on Y&R are virtual walk ons.
  9. The Internet being the Internet, some people are tying the E. Coli outbreak into Trump’s recent stunt at McDonald’s, especially since some people noted that he didn’t appear to be any sanitary precautions prior to food handling. The Internet conspiracy theories give and the Internet conspiracy theories take. This time it’s giving.
  10. Ugh, I forgot about that one with Kesha! I must’ve erased it from my memory, so egregious as that example is. G
  11. It’s what he deserves. Central Park Five sue Trump for defamation over debate remarks
  12. Still hoping that Loren Lott is cast on Beyond The Gates (or whatever the soap is ultimately called) or a soap where her talents will be utilized and appreciated.
  13. Why doesn’t Walter specify that she’s talking about white men and white women?
  14. Please remember that not every Arab is Muslim and vice versa. That fact aside, claiming to vote for someone so odious and racist is the definition of cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face. Better they just stay home, which, who can say for sure if they make the trek to the ballot box?
  15. Tonya Lee Williams is Afro Canadian Jamaican. Mishael is Afro and Indo-Trinidadian, aka “Dougla”.
  16. If people showing up to vote in record breaking numbers favored Republicans, I doubt many would seemingly do all they can to suppress the numbers of of people able to cast their votes. JMO, the GOP tends to benefit from lower voter turnout in many districts. Also, did anyone know that this was going on? https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/mail-carriers-and-usps-reach-tentative-contract-that-includes-raises-and-air-conditioned-trucks I know media only reports on the contentious labor issues but given the current election cycle we are currently in, so close to Election Day this seems important.
  17. This came across my timeline and it is great that Paul Whelan is speaking out about how instrumental Grimes was in agitating and raising funds for his release.
  18. He wasn’t talking about recasts at all but the propensity of Y&R to cast roles for Black characters with mixed actors. When you say “back then” do you mean the 1990s? Because it wasn’t standard practice in the 1980s. Since Y&R still does this, there is no back then, it still occurs. I don’t think this is something that white people think about much but when you limit your casting choices to essentially one or two phenotypes, you diminish the spectrum of that group and what constitutes the diversity of that group. We are not a monolith and it’s borderline insulting when we are treated as such.
  19. Agreed, with all of this. On the first day of early voting in North Carolina, my sister texted me a photo of her waiting in what appeared to be a long line. When I asked her how long she had to wait to vote, she said 45 minutes. She was insistent on waiting for her turn to cast her ballot because she felt she had to do all she could to help prevent ole what’s his name from ever getting in the White House again. It came as no surprise to me when I read that NC had record turnout for the first day of early voting. People are moving with intention. The time for handwringing about the polls has long since passed. Everyone needs to commit themselves to a plan to vote and follow through to make sure TFG gets to focus his time on his multiple court cases after Election Day. For all the talk about Black men supposedly being lured into MAGA, there hasn’t been much in the way of letting actual Black men speak for themselves in mainstream media. Here is one perspective concerning Project 2025.
  20. The Art Show a benefit for the Henry Street Settlement features a gallery of artists, including Tina Barney, who features Julianne Moore and her family among the photographs included in the exhibit. Here is an example. https://jeudepaume.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Julianne-Moore-and-Family-1999.jpg
  21. His volatile response to the 2008 global financial crisis didn’t really inspire much confidence by me. Still, if we’re a choice between him and TFG, at least McCain would have deployed the National Guard to help, not as a threat against his personal enemies.
  22. Yes, that irritates me as well and the folks at Y&R either don’t realize this or they simply don’t care how colorist this looks. Years ago, even KSJ made a pointed critique of Y&R repeatedly doing this. I am not sure whether he spoke of this in that podcast interview before or after Y&R diminished his role on the show but regardless of his impetus to speak on it, he was spot on in calling it out. From what I have noticed in recent years, the other remaining soaps do this as well but none so blatantly as Y&R, it seems.
  23. Speaking of the Black male vote, this article appeared in Newsweek, hardly a left-leaning publication. Admittedly, I have yet to read this article but I will, as the headline caught my attention. Donald Trump's Success With Black Voters Might be a Myth After All
  24. I don’t watch most television news in general, so my perspective is likely vastly different from most members in this thread. It is somewhat interesting to note though, that many newspapers (*coughs* NYT) are starting to publish articles that question the accuracy of polls and note when polls have gone wrong. Also, I noticed that they recently printed an Opinion essay in which the author dismissed the importance of swing states, claiming that something that they refer to as “microcommunities”.
  25. By Monday, the Al Smith dinner will not matter. For better or for worse, that is the nature of the news media cycle. Things move fast and some clips of canned jokes won’t leave much of an imprint.mIt was very wise of the VP not to attend.
