  1. The highlighting of the continuity inconsistencies in Perry’s movies, as demonstrated in that clip had me screaming.
  2. I know it will never happen, but I would have loved for one of these soap vlogging YouTube channels to interview the Soap Classics people to get their perspective on that era. They didn’t just sell DVDs they ran two soap streaming platforms.
  3. Sorry for the typos in my post. Geez, I need to turn off autocorrect. It messes up grammar and syntax. Every time. Yeah, unfortunately, the entire entertainment industry has separate classes. I learned that pretty quickly- not so much while I interned in Tin Pan Alley, but in grad school. My first week during orientation, there was a mixer in the lobby of my school and the student directors were milling about, glad handing as many people as they could, there were they actors being exhibitionists and chatting up everyone in sight. Then there were the writers, off to the side, sitting in a corner on our own, forced to watch, bemused and feeling very uncomfortable. And then there was the world renowned film school, who got state of the art digital editing software, didn’t collaborate with us (who were still using analog equipment to edit) at all. Even in the Writing Department, there were different classes. If you got admitted on the strength of a playwriting portfolio, you were told that you had more skill and talent than someone who submitted a screenwriting portfolio, despite the program touting its bonafides about intense training across all media. Sad but true. Then as a playwright, you are in screenwriting class and they obsess over whether your screenplay is too cerebral and will it “sell”.
  4. By that time, she would definitely have walked, rather than having to play that.
  5. Any article referring to Jill Biden as a “Lady MacBeth” is …🙄
  6. France was trying to do something different. Some aspects of it I really liked and appreciated, others were quirky to the point of being odd but I think the French wanted to present a bit of irony in some of the ceremony. I do hope none of the athletes get sick from standing in driving rain like that. That would be a pity. My main complaint was the commentary, too much chatter while not presenting enough use information. I think the boats down the Seine was interesting, I just wish that the camera could have given us a closer look or even a few interesting bits of trivia. I noticed that some nations had chyrons with the names of the flag bearers while others did not. We used to get the names of all the flag bearers in previous Olympic Games. Did Peacock not get all the names? God bless Kelly Clarkson but she sounded like she was winging it— no preparation whatsoever. And I have no idea what Peyton was talking about, he sounded out of his depth. Savannah and Hota asking if they jumped off the bridge they were standing on, would Rafael Nadal catch them? Huh?! If there was a button to turn off the commentary, I would have pressed it for the entire ceremony.
  7. NBC/PeacockTV is providing some terrible coverage. The commentary is vapid.
  8. That call between President Obama and VP Harris happened on Wednesday, timed to drop, I suspect, after President Biden’s address from the Resolute Desk. (I just realized that upthread, I had described President Biden’s tone as “resolute”, which was a coincidence). There was also a suggestion that Obama wanted to wait until after Democrats had settled their dispute. Obama has always been known to be very (sometimes overly so) methodical and takes some time to weigh issues from every angle. I am surprised people don’t remember that he sometimes got criticized for taking too long to deliberate on an issue. Yes, considering that Harris once campaigned for him (early) in the snow in Iowa, taking his time seemed a bit disappointing but this is the way he has always been. After the GW Bush years of the executive branch getting into quagmire after quagmire, acting seemingly on instinct, making hasty decisions, Obama’s contemplative manner is probably what helped him get two terms.
  9. Sabotage on the Paris TGV rail network. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/acts-of-sabotage-hit-french-trains-as-paris-olympics-kick-off/ar-BB1qEPbu
  10. It’s been fun watching Haley attempting to go toe to toe with the Haley Voters 4 Harris PAC. So far, Haley is losing. It’s glorious to see.
  11. This time around people seem to be quicker to call out misinformation and other attempts to deceive like this-
  12. No doubt those ads were targeted upstate but yes, I know her budget would have been tailored not to spend as much on the NYC metro area as upstate and other regions.
  13. That’s interesting how ads are tailored to particular states/regions. I don’t remember seeing those ads. Perhaps because in the NYC tri-state area, it’s assumed that people already knew who Trump was and he was already massively unpopular here.
  14. Many already suspected this, no? FBI uncertain whether Trump was hit by a bullet or struck by shrapnel during assassination attempt
  15. VP Harris has a built-in example of the gravity of what the Trump years produced-chief among them, the erosion of women’s bodily autonomy. When Hillary warned of the perils that a Trump presidency could yield, unfortunately, many underestimated the catastrophic consequences that this would bring to bear. As I recall, even after the election of 2016, there were some who were still underestimating just how catastrophic it would be. By her own admission, Hillary did say in her recent Op-Ed (definitely worth a read) that she underplayed the huge significance of her run as a woman because she likely didn’t want it to be counted as a vulnerability against her. Many now have learned the hard way that just by being that other half of a population regarded as woman, many will regard us a vulnerable no matter how high we climb. Might as well declare it and fight for it.
  16. Yesterday, the YouTube algorithm sent this to my homepage. Did they know that I recently read the book: Cocktails With George and Martha?
  17. Wow, that’s an impressive ad.
  18. Until I read this article, I had never heard of them. I searched for the Vogue piece that the article referenced and boy, did Vogue give one of them a lot of real estate in the magazine for that one brother’s wedding. If I were the person who wrote and more importantly, approved that spread in Vogue, I’d be mortified. As much as the people in Vogue run with and document the movers and the shakers, someone had to have known something about these guys.
  19. Hideous behavior. (The link is free). These Brothers Were Real Estate Hotshots. And Predators
  20. Yes, it’s obvious that he is still recovering from illness but President Biden’s speech was resolute. Yesterday when I heard that he was going to speak to the nation tonight, I wondered what the tone would be, earlier, I wondered what emotions the speech would stir, and I started to try to prepare myself to feel sad but President Biden was very clear and resolute. He was adamant that he is capable of carrying out his duties as president but wanted to unify his party. He comes across as absolutely sincere in every word of his speech. I really hope that people don’t try to “lame duck” him because he sounds resolute in his ambition to continue to accomplish as much as he can before his term is over.
  21. Isn’t this what’s happening? They’ve left areas, declaring them free from Hamas, only to have to return. Sadly, it reminds me of the U.S. with Iraq and Al Qaeda (who still exist, but have fanned out and joined with other groups) and ISIS (also around).
  22. Uh-oh 😖 Paris drug dealers say they're ready for Olympics too
  23. Netanyahu has been increasingly isolated and it shows. Even his government’s military is displeased with his decision making.
  24. CBS Daytime promos for their soaps from 1985-1987 were *chef’s kiss*.
  25. ^^ At least that concern sounds more measured than those that claim that because Kelly is bald he won’t be a good VP candidate because Americans don’t like bald men. Did anyone read Hillary Clinton’s Op-Ed article today? It’s probably the only article worth reading in the Times these days.
