Seems as if chaos and disaster trail TFG everywhere he goes. It’s beyond tiresome now. Maybe it means that his ranting hatred on Ms. Swift did not achieve his desired outcome and now they’re off to find a new way to shift focus.

RIP: In Memoriam Thread
To people who don’t know who this young woman was or what made her so special, here are a few illustrations of why. The first video, she was only 13. She came through some pretty rough circumstances early in her life. To be called evil because you have vitiligo, to be made to feel ugly and to use all your strength and power and energy to persevere and (still do it with a smile on your face) to create such beauty is indescribable. We don’t yet know the circumstances of why/how this talented soul passed away but may she rest in peace. It’s sad that we won’t have more of her beautiful dancing.

Yeah, it’s nothing new. Only time will tell whether this will be a humbling, of sorts since Timberlake likes to project himself as something of a “good guy”.

Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
And now apparently, someone from Combs’ legal team is all over TikTok trying to diminish Richard’s allegations, claiming that Richard was vocally supportive of Combs just a few years ago. Richard’s lawyer is rebutting that claim, stating that there have often been cases where a victim feels obliged to work with her abuser.

I agree. I guess it’s why he changed his not guilty plea to a guilty plea.

Thanks @DRW50 for tagging me on this video. Watching a scene like this, it occurs to me that anyone who grew up on a steady diet of soaps exclusively from the past two decades might find that scene between Kim and Carol to be plodding but I like the pace of conversation and how realistic it sounds, the way an unscripted conversation might seem. You only need listen to what the characters are saying, how they relate to each other and soon you’ll be drawn in. Today’s soaps would only give this length of time to the characters if there were at least four in the room talking, likely about some bizarre scenario. Scenes in soaps today are barely two minutes unless they are intercutting with something else happening simultaneously, which is drawn straight from the movies. When Bob and Kim got married in ‘85, I remember scenes when Bob was packing boxes and trying to get Tom (and maybe Frannie too?) to come and get some of his cherished childhood items (I guess the implication was that Bob would donate and/or junk the rest). I also remember Craig Montgomery coming in as Bob was hauling out the rest of his belongings as he sold the place to Craig. I think Bob even handed the key to Craig and said something like “Welcome home” to Craig.

Very sad news from the world of dance. 29 is far too young to lose her. She was a gift. Trailblazing ballerina Michaela DePrince dies aged 29

Thank you. For years, I mostly stayed away because I happened to be on the subway and was going over the bridge, happened to look down and saw a huge gaping hole where the N and S towers used to be, and my heart sank into my stomach. I also thought the air quality was likely toxic and wanted to be nowhere near that area if I could possibly help it. I remember having to show up for jury duty selection and wanting to get in and out of the area, which admittedly was probably a safe enough distance away from the footprint. Perhaps when I finally make my way back to the footprint, I might stop considering it a graveyard. In post debate news, according to this article, the Russian propaganda machine are confused and befuddled by VP Harris’ performance in the debate. As someone who was living and going to university in Manhattan in 2001, I know full well what a day like today September 11th is about. I really don’t wish, nor do I need to see any documentaries on the subject because I clearly remember the smell of burning jet fuel and burning flesh pervading the air. I remember the plumes of smoke in the distance and feeling marooned from the rest of the world as phone lines and most communication was cut. The sounds of fighter jets patrolling the skies, especially at night. And every year, I revisit that trauma, which has been getting less and less every few years. A couple years ago, I finally decided to wean myself off watching hours and hours of the reading of the names of the people killed on that day. The days, weeks and months riding the subway wondering if something tragic could happen while feeling sorry for any woman wearing a hijab, man in a takiyah or any Brown person who might immediately be marked as a threat with one glance. Lower Manhattan has never been the same place in my eyes, no matter how much work has gone into a makeover. Might I suggest we be sensitive to the possibility that not everyone has the same experience of that day and it may not be edifying or healthy to watch curated documentaries of it? It may be a must watch for some but it won’t be for me.- The Politics Thread
In the back of my mind, I knew VP Harris would handle business during the debate but I don’t like to get ahead of myself (at least not out loud). He was muttering and sputtering. He had absolutely nothing new to offer, the same worn out attack lines that have been weakened considerably by time and halfway decent fact-checking. And TFG revealed publicly what most of us pretty much already knew- he has no meaningful conversations with his running mate. Have he and Vance ever actually campaigned together on the same stages?- The Tennis Thread
I saw a clip of Venus on The View, she looked and sounded great. I will try to check out the others this week. 🤗 There has been talk of the ATP and WTA joining forces. Not on the pay issue, interestingly enough, but I hope they will negotiate better streaming and broadcast deals because for the past several years ESPN has effectively been ruining tennis. Just today, I was thinking about how it was being introduced to tennis by just seeing it on network television and a “basic” cable package. If things had been the way they are now back then, I probably wouldn’t have become a fan. While I was thinking of this, it made me sad. Who’s doing a worse job of promoting their product…the daytime soaps or tennis? I will say this for the USTA, they have readily leaned into the “booze cruise” aesthetic. A lot of half-drunk influencers taking selfies, looking like they are living their best lives for the “Gram”. Taylor Fritz’ girlfriend had her own crew, oddly enough, they were at the Dimitrov-Tiafoe match watching lol.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Did those shows archive his appearances on their shows? ATWT and GL are the two shows I am more familiar with which is why I cited them. My point though is that soaps were terrible about preservation. Even in the early 70s when even the lowest budget theater in the park had presence of mine to preserve performances. P&G’s efforts were particularly dire.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Thank you for posting this link. Years ago, I remember reading that James Earl Jones portrayed a doctor and I couldn’t remember whether it was GL or ATWT. Turns out it was both. And different characters too. On ATWT, Jones portrayed Dr. Jerry Turner. Too bad P&G wasn’t really into preserving their soaps. That really could have been something had they had episodes with James Earl Jones to show. I am glad that theatre producers like Joseph Papp had to good sense to film and archive Jones’ theatrical work. It’s illuminating to be able to see Jones’ onstage work, especially the earlier works.- BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos

An example of how mesmerizing James Earl Jones was as a performer. Sorry but there are certain things you can do only on a stage.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread
Hopefully people remember that James Earl Jones won two Tony awards out of four nominations. August Wilson who was one of America’s best playwrights had James Earl Jones as the original Troy Maxon in the iconic play Fences. Maybe it’s the nature of the business nowadays but it feels like with James Earl Jones passing away, the list of actors who excel in every media and has a legacy of moving performances across decades is suddenly very very short.
