Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I think she has only stayed on due to being the last Sugden.

I imagine some is spite toward Genie from the show, but Laura has also been such a dead character for a long time now. She just feels isolated, even as the mayor. There could have been some story to play with the return of her kids, especially Lucky, but I'm not even that sure how compelling it would have been. Admittedly I just don't think a lot of actress or character.

I suppose they may feel the only audience they have left are old conservative white people. I would like to say they are wrong...

Nothing against MVJ, it's just when two people who work with/for you took over longtime shows and ruined them beyond recognition, I'm going to be wary. I think ABC is somewhat concerned, but if they were really concerned, they'd have made more changes. Instead, they seem to have only marginalized their black characters further.

I've heard that a lot too. Given this show I am expecting it.

They won't make any effort to actually showcase their black cast but will put them on the Jennifer Hudson Show. It likely shows they don't think Beyond the Gates is actual competition. Given the minimal amount of viewers for soaps now, they probably aren't wrong, but they have given a lot of their fans every reason to move (at least if the likes of Guza and Carlivati weren't there).

Thanks. Those are such soap names, especially for that era. I wonder what his plans were for them.

Thanks! I don't really know anything about that character.- Dynasty Discussion Thread
I don't really think she left because of her marriage. She was visibly burnt out with the show. Staying would have given her more money but if she wanted to go, I don't think she was wrong to go. They got so much wrong with Fallon until the final season.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
The odd part is they haven't even tried to recreate most of the Aaron/Robert relationship, unless they think the only reason they had fans was Robert being unpleasant to people and being a Sugden. It's all so half-hearted. I still assume the whole thing is just so John will be revealed as evil or an abuser and Aaron will have to be saved from him. Either that or he will just leave town, like Pierce's son who was presumably meant to be much more than he was (a shame as I liked the actor).- All My Children Tribute Thread
Putting her in a romance with an actor over ten years her senior - a number of actresses like Sarah Polley (not from AMC just in case someone points that out) have spoken about their regrets over being put in those situations. I'd say most movies or shows now wouldn't put an actor her age, or Mick Hazen's age with what he played on ATWT, through that, but given the big rollback on any basic decency we're seeing, who knows.- Y&R: Old Articles

The "left him for dead" part makes me think someone else killed him. Given that they have apparently hinted of John Sugden killing people, my guess is it's him.- Another World Discussion Thread

I would guess it may have just been long enough to wrap up the Cecile/Iris storyline. Shelley had a busy theater career, so she probably had a set limit. She's listed in their synopses up to the week of the 7th-11th, although that may just be mentions of her - I could swear I remember a scene of her saying she's going on a cruise though.- The Politics Thread
IIRC, most of the people who commented in the article are tied to progressive groups, which means those who pandered to Trump and are getting dust (unless they just really, really love Marco Rubio) are still scared and silent.- Another World Discussion Thread

They don't care. They believe there are all kinds of people lining up for those jobs. Or, as some have speculated, they will just force prisoners to work the fields. Or once they gut Medicare and Social Security they'll put old people in the fields. I hope Maylene and Bobby are ready. And based on Trump gutting FEMA, they can just sleep in the fields instead of worrying about having a house.- Another World Discussion Thread
The first time I saw those scenes, I was repulsed. After seeing more clips and hearing audio of Beverlee's Iris being hysterical at the drop of a hat, I understand her choices more. I think the real mistakes are in the later scenes where she goes so over the top without any shading. It doesn't help that Mac is so calm, which only shines more of a light on her histrionics. She also lacks the charisma which Beverlee used to help make you care about an unsympathetic character.- Film Awards Thread
I think when you cast Zendaya then the whole fanbase and media campaign around her becomes an innate part of the story. Sometimes that can work for a film - all the baggage Demi Moore brings to The Substance, for instance - and sometimes it can't.- GH: January 2025 Discussion Thread
Given the major roles some of the writers who made GH what it now is will have at BtG I'm not sure if the shows will be as separate as we may hope. I do agree GH can never improve if risk-averse Frank is still there. Unfortunately, the ratings dropping as soon as they made any slight change last year probably just makes it more likely they will stick to what they have until they are canceled. - Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
