  1. Season 63 of “General Hospital” will premiere Monday, September 8 on ABC, the network announced this week. The news comes as ABC’s Boston affiliate, WCVB, revealed plans to move the long-running daytime drama series back to 3:00 p.m., where it thrived for more than 25 years before sliding into the 2:00 p.m. time slot in September 2012, following ABC’s decision to cede the 3:00 p.m. time slot to its local stations in the hopes of launching “Katie,” the since-canceled and ratings challenged syndicated daytime talk show hosted by Katie Couric that ran for just two seasons and cost Disney $80 million to launch. The time slot change for “General Hospital” will also see “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” which kicks off Season 4 on Monday, September 15, sliding up an hour, airing at 2:00 p.m., with the soap opera following as the new lead-in to the station’s “NewCenter,” which airs at 4:00 p.m. WCVB becomes the ninth ABC affiliate to return “General Hospital” to its long-held time slot of 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT. In September 2014, seven of the eight ABC Owned Television Stations announced the switch back, including WABC in New York, KABC in Los Angeles, WLS in Chicago, WPVI in Philadelphia, KGO in San Francisco, KTRK in Houston, and WTVD in Raleigh-Durham. Meanwhile, KSAT in San Antonio was the sole non-ABC-owned station to make the switch at the time. According to a logline for Season 63, “Genera Hospital” continues its tradition of passion, intrigue and adventure that has depicted the ongoing lives of the diverse and evolving citizens of the fictional town of Port Charles set in upstate New York. The glamour and excitement of those who have come to find their destinies in this familiar seaport town intertwine with the lives, loves and fortunes of beloved, well-known faces. As always, love, danger and mind-blowing plot twists abound on the series, which features contemporary storylines and unforgettable characters. Created by husband-and-wife soap writers Frank and Doris Hursley, “General Hospital” premiered on April 1, 1963, and remains both the longest-running scripted drama and the longest-running American soap opera currently in production. It holds the record for the most Outstanding Daytime Drama award wins, taking home the prestigious Daytime Emmy Award a record 17 times. The show is taped at the Prospect Studios in Hollywood, California, and has produced more than 15,000 episodes. Notable faces who’ve appeared on the series throughout its run include Demi Moore, John Stamos, Jack Wagner, Mark Hamill, Rick Springfield, Ricky Martin, Amber Tamblyn, Emma Samms, Jonathan Jackson, Chandra Wilson and Richard Dean Anderson. With the 1981 wedding of Luke and Laura Spencer (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis), “General Hospital” continues to hold the record for the most-watched and highest-rated individual episode in American soap opera history, with 30 million viewers tuning in. In 2026, “General Hospital” will celebrate its 16000th episode. Frank Valentini serves as the current executive producer. Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten are the show’s co-head writers. 2. Just my opinion, and subject to change come this time next year, but I believe they are stretching the show since they ordered 200 episodes for Season 1. Like The Talk did for Season 15, the season will end in December. I would think Season 2 will include the typical 250 episodes and we shouldn't expect to see these long breaks anymore as the show shouldn't have the typical "we're only producing until..." mindset since anything beyond Season 1 wasn't a guarantee when the show was first greenlit.
  3. Since Beyond the Gates will be airing repeats next week, per CBS, at this time it's unclear what Crave will actually be airing since they note Season 1A, not Season 1. It's entirely possible they'll just have all the episodes CHCH has already aired, since Crave is a streaming service.
  4. https://www.bellmedia.ca/the-lede/press/september-2025-crave-streaming-overview/ September 1 – BEYOND THE GATES, Season 1A
  5. Per the wording, and based on my interpretation, the "rep" was someone from CHCH confirming the show will air until August 29.
  6. Jeevan Brar from The TV Watercooler website is saying it'll air on the Crave streaming service, but I have not yet confirmed it myself directly, though I do not doubt his reporting. He was the first to report CHCH picking up the show.
  7. Beginning Monday, September 1, Canadian fans of “Beyond the Gates” will need to find a new way to watch the daytime drama series after a representative for broadcaster CHCH confirms to Soap Opera Network that the soap opera will no longer air on the network following the Friday, August 29 episode. Although no specific reason for the change was cited, the network noted the show will not be airing as part of its 2025-2026 schedule. According to an updated program schedule, repeats of “The A-Team” will replace the daytime drama series on the CHCH schedule beginning Monday, September 1. “The A-Team” is a 1980s primetime drama that aired for four seasons on NBC. It follows four ex-Army Special Forces soldiers who become heroes for hire after being branded as war criminals for a crime they didn’t commit. After breaking out of Prison, they end up helping the downtrodden while on the run from the Military Police. Since the soap opera’s launch on February 24, 2025, CHCH aired new episodes of “Beyond the Gates” weekdays at 2:00 p.m. ET in simulcast with U.S. broadcaster CBS. CHCH held linear TV rights to the series in Canada, while a streaming option remained unavailable to the country. “Beyond the Gates” marked a return to the world of daytime soaps for CHCH as the network previously carried fresh episodes of “As The World Turns,” “Guiding Light,” “Sunset Beach” and “The Young and the Restless,” with the latter series moving to Global TV in the early 1980s. Broadcasting since 1954, CHCH has been the news leader for Hamilton and the surrounding Halton and Niagara regions. Owned by the independent media company Channel Zero, the network is available to over 92% of Ontario households and is viewed by millions nationally each week. Soap Opera Network has reached out to reps at CBS and Paramount, a Skydance Company, for information on where Canadian fans might be able to pick up “Beyond the Gates,” if anywhere, following CHCH’s decision to drop the series. We’ll update this story if/when we hear back and provide you with the latest information on the matter. 12. Veteran soap actress Tamara Braun (“Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital”) is joining the cast of “The Young and the Restless” in the newly created role of Sienna Bacall, who has “personal connections to several characters” in Genoa City. According to PEOPLE, which first reported the news, Braun, a two-time Emmy winner, will begin taping next week at the long-running drama’s Television City studio in Hollywood. She is set to make her first appearance on screen sometime later this fall. Making her soap opera debut as a recast Carly Corinthos on “General Hospital” in 2001, Braun exited Port Charles in 2005, one year after receiving her first-ever Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal. After several guest roles on shows like “House,” “Cold Case,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Without a Trace” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” Braun returned to daytime in 2008 first on “Days of our Lives” playing Ava Vitali, a character that netted Braun her first-ever Emmy award win in 2009, this time for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and later playing the newly created contract role of Reese Williams on “All My Children.” After a short break from daytime, which saw her exiting Pine Valley in 2009, Braun returned to “Days of our Lives” in 2011, this time taking on the role of Taylor Walker, the younger sister of Nicole Walker. Braun left the soap the same year, only to return as Ava Vitali in 2015. By 2017, Braun had returned to “General Hospital,” this time playing Dr. Kim Nero, whose characteristics were completely different from her prior character, Carly Corinthos. Braun won her second-ever Emmy award for Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress in 2020 for her role as Kim on “General Hospital.” Also in 2020, Braun returned to “Days of our Lives” as Ava Vitali, a role she continued to play until earlier this year. She received two additional Emmy nominations for her portrayal, one in 2021 for Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress and again in 2024 for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress. 13. ABC’s top rated daytime talk show “The View” is returning for Season 29 beginning Monday, September 8, the network announced on Monday with a promo touting the countdown is on with all six hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro, coming back for another season. News of the show’s return comes weeks after social media was ablaze with unfounded reports that it had been canceled after comments made by Joy Behar on the Thursday, July 24 broadcast were purposely misinterpreted by certain bloggers and so-called influencers who take issue with the show’s premise. “Before we go on hiatus, we only have one more show after this, I’m allowed to say that, right?” asked Behar, one day before the show aired what would be its final broadcast of Season 28 (Friday, July 25). That minor slipup by Behar sparked a slew of media reports and video responses across YouTube, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), among other social media platforms, declaring the show was canceled, with many citing her use of the word “hiatus” to mean that the show would not be returning, particularly as it came soon after her comments during a Hot Topics segment on the Wednesday, July 23 episode where the hosts were discussing President Doanld Trump alleging that former president Obama “was trying to lead a coup.” “First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on January 6. Who was that again? That was not Obama,” said Behar, referencing the January 6, 2021 insurrection that took place at the United States Capitol. “The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: Trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It’s driving him crazy.” In response to Behar’s comments, a spokesperson for the White House stated to Entertainment Weekly, proclaiming that the talk show could be “pulled off the air” because of Behar, who they called an “irrelevant loser.” “Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” said White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers, who also falsely claimed the talk show had “hit [its] lowest ratings” in years, while concluding that Behar “should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air,” indirectly referencing CBS’ decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” For context, during the 2024-2025 television season, “The View” was up in Total Viewers (+5% – 2.547 million vs. 2.429 million) and Women 18-49 (+3% – 151,000 vs. 147,000) versus the comparable weeks last season (2023-2024), which marked the show’s most-watched season in four years — since the 2020-2021 season. Additionally, the show ranked No. 1 in Households (1.72 rating) and Total Viewers (2.547 million) among all network daytime talk shows and news programs for the 5th straight season, outrating the likes of “TODAY 3rd Hour,” “TODAY with Jenna & Friends,” “GMA3” and “NBC News Daily.” According to 1iota, the online ticketing firm that handles requests to attend live tapings for talk shows, game shows, screenings and premieres, as well as fan experiences (awards shows/singing competitions), premiere week for “The View” will feature a multitude of guests, including Emma Hemming Willis, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, actors America Ferrera and Michael Urie, among others. He will forever be missed.” “Tristan Rogers was a respected member of the soap opera community, and he was a beloved member of ‘The Young and the Restless’ family. I had the pleasure of being his scene parner for many years. I adored working with him,” said Walton, introducing the 2014 clip which sees their characters dealing with Colin’s betrayal. Tristan Rogers Cliff Lipson/CBS “We will miss you, Tristan, and your remarkable performance as Colin Atkinson,” concluded Walton. The story behind the episode sees Colin’s son, Cane (Billy Flynn), revealing details about his time away from Genoa City, including details about his father’s death, which up to this point had been referenced as an off screen event. Tristan Rogers died on Friday, August 15 after a battle with lung cancer. His longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, noted to ABC7 (KABC) at the time that Rogers had never been a smoker. The actor died just weeks after disclosing his diagnosis on Thursday, July 17, which was also the same day he made what would end up being his final appearance on “General Hospital,” where he played the iconic role of Robert Scorpio off and on since 1980. 17. If there are scheduling issues like we've seen in the past, I anticipate repeats to air on at least the following holidays: Labor Day Columbus Day Veterans Day There's also Thanksgiving preemption due to sports. Based on the script date and air date shown, and what we know about Season 1 ending at the end of 2025, there could at least be another week of repeats headed our way, unless the 200th episode isn't the final episode order for Season 1. We'll soon find out for sure. Note: The way it was told to me was that Season 1 was winding down, not that episode 200 was their final episode for Season 1. However, that could still mean the same thing.
  18. Local stations generally place their strongest shows in front of their local news. On ABC stations that had Oprah for decades, she led into their 5pm newscasts. Once Oprah ended 4pm became an additional news hour for the stations. General Hospital is quite strong, and so was all the other ABC soaps until Anne Sweeney and Brian Frons decided to go nuke earth on the lineup. Because GH remained strong it survived 2012 and Katie. If they’d left things alone, ABC would still have a four hour lineup of some sort to this day.
  19. WCVB, the Boston ABC affiliate owned by Hearst Television, has announced that beginning Monday, September 8, “General Hospital” will swap time slots with “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on the station. “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will move up one hour to 2:00 p.m. while “General Hospital” will move back to 3:00 p.m., leading into the station’s “NewsCenter” broadcast at 4:00 p.m. The Jennifer Hudson-hosted talk show is set to launch its fourth season on Monday, September 8. Meanwhile, the long-running daytime drama series, which is entering its 63rd season, returns to its former time slot where it had aired for decades until September 2012, when ABC ceded the time period to its local stations in the hopes of launching “Katie,” the since-canceled and ratings challenged talk show hosted by Katie Couric that ran for just two seasons and cost Disney $80 million to launch. With the time slot change, WCVB becomes the ninth ABC affiliate to return “General Hospital” to its long-held time slot of 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT, where it followed “One Life to Live,” which aired at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT, for decades before the latter soap was ultimately canceled, having aired its final episode in January 2012. In the months following the final episode of “One Life to Live,” ABC aired the short-lived reality-based program “The Revolution,” which was canceled due to low ratings and was quickly replaced by “Good Afternoon America,” which saw some improvement in the ratings, though not nearly enough to sustain itself. Ultimately, “General Hospital” proved to be the stronger program, with the network also canceling “Good Afternoon America,” and the soap opera moving to 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT nationwide after more than 25 years at 3:00 p.m. WCVB had not cited a reason for the switch at press time. Meanwhile, on weekends, the station will air the program “CityLine” at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays, beginning Sunday, August 31, which will follow “NewsCenter 5 Weekend EyeOpener” at 10:00 a.m. and “On the Record” at 11:00 a.m. Encores of “CityLine” will air Saturday nights at 11:35 p.m. after the late news starting Saturday, August 30, while “On the Record” will re-air at midnight following Sunday night’s broadcast of “SportsCenter 5 OT.” Elsewhere, Hearst Media Productions Group’s “Ocean Mysteries” and “Vets Saving Pets” will air on Saturday and Sunday mornings starting Saturday, August 30. Boston is the ninth-largest television market in the United States according to Nielsen’s Designated Market Areas (DMAs) report. 20. The initial order was for 200 episodes. They'll still air 250 or so episodes each year, regardless, unless those preemptions we experienced this year become a regular thing.
  21. As the cast and crew of “Beyond the Gates” celebrated taping the show’s 200th episode this week, reports emerged online indicating that episodes from Season 1 of the daytime drama series would air through November, with Season 2 launching immediately afterward. That information is incorrect. Soap Opera Network has learned that new episodes from Season 1 of “Beyond the Gates” will continue to air through the end of 2025, and following a brief production hiatus, filming for Season 2 will commence in September with those episodes scheduled to air in 2026 – the soap opera is roughly four plus months ahead in terms of tape-to-air, and two plus months ahead script-to-tape. In May, CBS renewed the soap opera for a second season, with the network touting the show’s success and improving its time period by +48% among Total Viewers, according to Most Current and Season-to-Date ratings data released by Nielsen at the time. “To my #BeyondTheGates family: can you believe we shot episode 200 today?! I’m so grateful for every single one of you and I love you all with my whole heart,” said Michele Val Jean, the show's creator, showrunner, executive producer and head writer, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you for your talent, commitment and dedication. Here’s to the next 200.” Val Jean’s post was in response to an Instagram reel shared by cast member Ambyr Michelle (Eva Thomas) that was later re-shared by Lauren Buglioli (Vanessa McBride), among others, which shows the cast and crew celebrating their accomplishment with a party that took place at Assembly Studios, where the series is taped in Atlanta. Other cast members also shared behind-the-scenes videos and messages for the show’s fans, thanking them for their support. Brandon Claybon (Martin Richardson) on X: “Cheers to the 200th episode on #BeyondTheGates! Thank you!!” Sean Freeman (Andre Richardson) on Instagram: “Yooo! We did it!!! Andre Richardson has successfully completed the 1st 200 episodes one of BTG!! My 1st series regular role (main cast) on daytime television. Lord u have been so faithful & your grace has been sufficient. NOTE: We don’t have “seasons” in the soap world, but here’s to the next 200, and beyond! LFGOOO” Keith Robinson (Dr. Ted Richardson) on X: “Happy 200th Episode to the amazing cast and crew of Beyond the Gates”. . . .#beyondthegates Maurice P. Kerry (Randy Parker) on X: Happy 200th Episode from #BeyondtheGates. Thank you to the fans, followers, and BTG family. With love and appreciation, I’m looking forward to season 2 from #EyeCandyRandy On Thursday, August 21, Ambyr Michelle posted a message on Instagram, giving her personal perspective on wrapping her first season as a series regular on a television show, saying, “We officially made it to 200 episodes! God is sooo amazing!! Here’s to 2,000 more! And BEYOND that!!!” She added, “Although there’s no ‘wrapping’ in the Soap World — we’re honored to go into episode 201. Stay Tuned!!!” On Sunday, August 24, “Beyond the Gates” will officially mark its six-month anniversary since making its debut on CBS (February 24, 2025) and streaming on Paramount+. Recently, Pluto TV launched a dedicated “Beyond the Gates” channel, allowing fans to watch the series 24/7, with the latest episodes dropping eight days after their premiere on CBS. 22. Season 1 concludes with episodes airing through the end of 2025. The second season begins in 2026. Production has not officially wrapped yet on Season 1. Filming commences on Season 2 in September.
  23. CBS' core demographic for all of its shows is Adults 25-54, with the network selling the vast majority of its ads for its three soaps with an emphasis on Women 25-54 rather than Women 18-49, though it performs better than the other networks in the latter as well.
  24. Several daytime broadcast shows were preempted on Friday, August 15 due to breaking news coverage of U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meeting in Alaska to discuss a potential peace agreement over Ukraine. As a result, Nielsen reported breakouts in particular for “NBC News Daily” and “GMA3,” and a partial breakout for “General Hospital,” during the week of August 11-15, 2025. Overall, most daytime broadcast shows saw significant drops among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, likely due to lower than expected HUT (homes using television) levels, at least among the key sales demographics and particularly on Thursday, August 14, 2025, which was the lowest rated day of the week for three of the four network soap operas — Wednesday, August 13, 2025 was the lowest-rated day of the week for “General Hospital.” For the week, repeats of “The Price is Right” remained on top among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, led by the second half-hour with its 0.32 rating in the former and its 0.48 rating in the latter. “TODAY 3rd Hour” again took third place in Women 18-49 (0.23 rating) with “The Young and the Restless” taking the same spot in Women 25-54 (0.38 rating). The long-running ABC soap remained on par with its week ago performance among Women 25-54 (0.29 rating). “GMA3” was the only daytime broadcast show to see week-to-week gains, up +0.02 among Women 18-49 (0.13 rating vs. 0.11 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.19 rating vs. 0.17 rating). Meanwhile, “NBC News Daily” set a new low among Women 18-49 (0.10 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.16 rating). Among Total Viewers, “The Young and the Restless” (2.959 million) was the only daytime broadcast show to see year-over-year growth, adding +58,000 more viewers compared to the same week last year (2.959 million vs. 2.901 million). On the opposite side, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.442 million) and “General Hospital” (1.794 million) saw the largest week-to-week and year-over-year drops, down -197,000 and 189,000, respectively, for the former, and down -198,000 and -170,000, respectively, for the latter. Note: HUT is a term that refers to the total number of homes using their television sets during a given period, with the tracking service expressing HUT as a percentage of the population or a number representing the thousands of homes viewing television.
