ARTICLE: ‘General Hospital’ Star Maurice Benard Talks Sonny’s New Love Interest & Mental Health Legacy On ‘We’re Out of Time’ (EXCLUSIVE)
In an episode dropping Tuesday, “General Hospital” star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) sits down with Richard Taite, host of the “We’re Out of Time” podcast, to discuss a possible new love storyline and reflect on his legacy as a mental health advocate. In one clip, Benard discusses his character’s chemistry with ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor) and whether romance might be on the horizon between the two. Plus, he reflects on Sonny’s iconic past relationships —from Brenda to Carly — and shares his favorite piece of advice: “You gotta love the one you’re with.” Meanwhile, in another clip, he discusses his hopes for his legacy after three decades in daytime and the more than five years he’s been hosting his “State of Mind podcast.” “I want my legacy to be: I was the first man to come out and say he was bipolar … I’m not the first [person], Patty Duke was way before me,” he says, noting, “It’s not about the acting. I know I’ve done well, but it’s the mental health.” Recalling his appearance in a 2006 episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” where he revealed his bipolar disorder, Benard says, “I was proud to do it, but nothing really happened with mental health from that, except I’ve seen a big change with the pandemic. That’s when it just blew up, because anybody who’s never had it and thought it was nothing, now has it, they’re like…this is what that is.” He says to Taite, “I think we’re in a better place, but I think suicides are up, and I hate to even say it because I know how you feel about it. I feel the same way.” Watch clips from Benard’s appearance on “We’re out of Time” below. New Love for Sonny Corinthos? Maurice Benard Drops a Hint! ARTICLE: Zach Tinker Goes ‘Beneath The Light’ In Latest Film – INTERVIEW
“Days of our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless” alum Zach Tinker is keeping himself busy outside of daytime with starring roles in several upcoming film projects, including “The Dregs,” “Face of the Earth” and “The Toast.” Meanwhile, Tinker’s latest film, the psychological thriller “Beneath the Light” from writer/director John Baumgartner thatwas co-written and produced by Dr. Cindy Davis Seng, a psychiatrist at the Cleveland Clinic, sees the actor playing a young man who, at the end of his rope, returns to his hometown after his mother’s passing to take a job repairing an isolated, haunted lighthouse. Shot entirely on location in and around Lorain, Ohio, including the town’s iconic 108-year-old Lorain Lighthouse on Lake Erie, Zinker took time to speak with Soap Opera Network about the film, including how it inspired a murder mystery game and novelization, filming during the Hollywood actor and writer strikes, which required an interim agreement/waiver to proceed with production, and whether he’d be interested in returning to daytime soaps, among other topics. First things first: “Beneath the Light” is pure fiction, despite a marketing campaign that might make it appear otherwise. “They’re trying to make a real world out of it—a whole inclusive experience. But yes, it’s a standalone, fictional story,” says Tinker, referring to the video game and novel add-on experience that can be had on the film’s official website, beneathelight.com. As for his own experience shooting the movie in Ohio, particularly the lighthouse scenes, Tinker says the location is “very creepy and isolated and old and run down, which is always nice. The less you have to pretend and the more you can exist in an atmosphere, is always great as an actor, the less you have to be.” That said, he notes that the interior shots were done on a soundstage. Still, his time at the physical location of the lighthouse for exterior shots helped amplify what his character is going through, sharing, “If you’re on a sound stage and you’re like, ‘Okay, I’m in this creepy lighthouse.’ It’s like I was there and we were there. So it was very advantageous, at least to me as an actor, to be on the set, on location, feel the atmosphere, not push anything, and really respond naturally.” Vision Films Describing the film as psychological horror with a mystery element, Tinker points out that, for the most part, “Beneath the Light” is like any other movie, easily crossing genres, particularly through its dramatic elements and even comedic beats. In the film, Tinker plays Jacob, who is left alone for extended periods by the surly lighthouse owner, Jim Murdoch (John Pyper-Ferguson). As his isolation and uneasiness grow, he is forced to confront his past mistakes or risk losing his sanity forever. While the circumstances wouldn’t be something that Tinker would allow or accept for himself, he says his character “doesn’t have many options, and he’s just desperate enough for work and for purpose that he’s just like, ‘All right, screw it. I got to do what I got to do.'” As Jacob falls headlong into a series of mysterious and frightening experiences that make him question his sense of reality and confront his long-standing anxiety and memory gaps, a budding romance with his childhood friend, Olivia (Anna Nicolle Chavez), provides comfort for the young man. However, the key to his redemption lies with the lighthouse owner and the unexpected bond they share. Zach Tinker Vision Films Laying out the characters and their backgrounds, Tinker reveals, “John’s character, Murdoch, and my character are both very tortured, depressed, and angry individuals, at least at that point in their lives. [Olivia] is troubled, and she’s the only real source of light in the film. So, more than a point of romance. I look at it as if she’s this beacon of hope throughout the course and this source of positivity [for Jacob].” Shot in October and November 2023, Tinker says that despite the dual strikes taking place at the time of filming, “There wasn’t really a difference to be felt on set. It still felt like a normal movie production.” That said, he did mention that the main difference, if any, was that the actors “weren’t really auditioning for anything else and all your friends were at home just twiddling their thumbs.” Meanwhile, commenting on the lasting impact of that period on productions, he noted that even after the strike ended, he feels “the industry has not really returned to its former self post-Covid [and] the strike.” As for working in Ohio itself, he says, “It was interesting. It’s very different from L.A. It’s a very different world from L.A., especially in Lorain, a small, quiet town that’s rebuilding. It went through hardships, and now it’s trying to rediscover and rebuild itself. And I think that was the coolest part: when I went out there for the premiere [in early September], the best part was when the film referenced certain things. In the movie, there’s a line where I’m saying, ‘Oh, I went to Lorain High School,’ and then my character goes, ‘Go Steelman,’ which was their mascot, and the whole audience was like, ‘Whoa!’ and freaked out. And that was really charming and really made me happy to see people find this joy in seeing their town be represented.” Speaking of the premiere, we wondered how different it was from the typical Hollywood style, which Tinker recalled as “less glitz and glam, but more hometown pride and real care. It didn’t feel like —and this is no shade to Hollywood and premieres out here —but a lot of the time, people go to premieres to be seen, meet people, and network, and that’s part of the industry. I do that too, but it was literally just people going to see a film that was filmed in their hometown, or they knew people involved in the film, or they supported the director in making the film. And so that was it.” The time he spent in Lorain was memorable for Tinker, who says he’d love to go back even if just to hang out. “It’s a very quaint, smaller town, so there’s not a lot to do and explore, but I lived there for a month filming the movie, a month and some change. So really, when I went back to the premiere, I remembered my routine when I was there. I’d film, but on the weekends, I’d go to this gym, and I remember the drive and the routes.” Further, “It really felt interesting going back to this place where I lived for some time, and it’s got a real charm to it, and I have a real place in my heart for the people in the town.” Considering his background in soaps, particularly with actors mastering the skill of memorizing lines and dialogue, Tinker says he carries that experience with him in everything he does. “You’re forced to memorize not only lines, but sometimes not very natural dialogue. And so it’s always helped me in everything I’ve done. Also, you have to have your #$#$ together —pardon my French —because you really only get one take and one shot at doing it. So I think it helps me, because I’m not an actor who needs four takes to get my lines and be in it. I can hit the ground running.” Outside of “Beneath the Light,” Zinker just wrapped the comedic horror film “The Dregs,” which was shot in Canada and also stars Nava Mau, Maddie Phillips and Charlie Gillespie, among others. “It’s an ensemble comedy about this group of friends that goes to Italy for a friend reunion, and they drink this cursed bottle of wine, and then one by one they start exploding and [they try to] reverse this curse.” Another film coming out soon is “Face of the Earth,” which was shot in Puerto Rico a few years ago, as well as “The Toast,” which follows a desperate wedding party scrambling to prevent the drunk Father-of-the-Bride from giving a disastrous welcome toast. Zach Tinker Todd Williamson/Peacock Despite a thriving film career, Tinker wouldn’t say no to returning to soaps, revealing if producers called him tomorrow asking for him to come back, he would. “It’s ironic, I was there for a year and a half or two years on ‘Days of our Lives,’ and they asked me to re-up, and I turned it down and left, and then I did ‘Fire Country.’ And, at the time, it felt like the right move. I’ve been doing a lot of indie films, and they’re creatively fulfilling, but man, they don’t pay the same. So now I’m like, ‘Man, I should have just stayed there.’ But look, I’d be more than thrilled to go back and get to play with that group again, whether it be ‘DAYS’ or ‘Y&R’ and explore Fen and who he’s become, because I know last time I was there, there was a big revelation. So I’m sure he has some backstory to unpack. I’d be thrilled.” With Halloween right around the corner, Tinker looks forward to audiences giving “Beneath the Light” a chance, saying, “I think it’s a really fun ride. I think a lot of people would enjoy it, and I think it’s worth a watch. I would encourage people to watch it and try to guess the twist ahead of time, and it’s something to watch in October for sure. It’s a spooky movie with scares and mystery, and I think it’s a fun ride. I would encourage people to take a peek. “Beneath the Light” is now available to rent or purchase on several major streaming platforms, including Fandango, Prime Video and Apple TV. ARTICLE: ‘Beyond The Gates’ Grows, ‘Let’s Make A Deal’ A Steady Riser & ‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Top Soap Among Women 18-49 — RATINGS
Outside of overall rankings across the key categories, the individual shows are competing with their own past success and failures when it comes to their ratings outlook. While General Hospital continues to outperform Beyond the Gates among Total Viewers, the ABC soap's drop in the key demos compared to the same week last year and compared to the weeks prior to the baseball preemptions is what I was referring to when I said its performance during the week of October 13-17, 2025 is a bit concerning. Though, upon review, all shows' demos are concerning, especially The Price is Right, which had the most significant year-over-year drop in demos of any show. Further, GH's performance is relatively on par with its performance during the week of September 22-26, 2025, the week before the preemptions. So, it's stable in that case. That said, my "concerning" comment did not mean I was worried about the show's future. I do not doubt GH will continue to air for years to come. However, it would be better for the show to be ranked 8th or 9th rather than 11th.

During the week of October 13-17, 2025, CBS’ “Beyond the Gates” continued to see week-to-week gains among Total Viewers for the fourth consecutive week, while also attracting its largest overall audience since the week of March 17-21, 2025, and its fourth-best performance among Total Viewers since its February 2025 launch. With 1.637 million viewers tuning in, the daytime drama series was up +42,000 viewers week-to-week and up an impressive +456,000 compared to the performance by former time slot occupant “The Talk” during the same week last year. Meanwhile, the first half-hour (2.065 million) attracted its second-largest audience since the week of March 3-7, 2025, second only to its performance during the week of October 6-10, 2025. For the fourth time in five weeks (including ties), “The Bold and the Beautiful” was the top scripted drama across daytime broadcast among Women 18-49 (0.23 rating), ahead of perennial leader “The Young and the Restless” (0.21 rating). For the week, the half-hour daytime drama tied with ABC’s “The View” among Women 18-49, each with a 0.23 rating, with the former up +0.03 week to week and the latter up +0.04 week to week. “The Bold and the Beautiful” was also up +0.04 among Women 25-54 (0.35 rating vs. 0.31 rating) and +71,000 among Total Viewers (2.663 million vs. 2.592 million). Overall, the soap attracted its largest overall audience since the week of March 31-April 4, 2025. “The Young and the Restless” remained the top soap among Women 25-54 (0.39 rating), ranking third overall, and up +0.02 week-to-week (0.39 rating vs. 0.37 rating). The show averaged 2.922 million viewers, up 80,000 week to week and marking its best performance among Total Viewers since the week of August 18-22, 2025. Elsewhere, “The Price is Right” continues to lead daytime broadcast, this time attracting its largest audience of the season for both half hours, with the second half-hour leading the charts with 4.180 million viewers and the first half-hour in second with 3.644 million. Both numbers are the game show’s best since the week of April 7-11, 2025. While “General Hospital” continues to perform decently among Total Viewers, on par with its regular averages, the soap opera’s performance in the key sales demographics is a bit concerning. Wrap-Up What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of October 13-17, 2025 among Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including week-to-week and year-over-year comparisons. Note*: Figures under the 2024 column for “Beyond the Gates” are compared to the performance of the former time slot occupant, “The Talk.” “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” is compared with the performance of its predecessor, “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna.” Meanwhile, “GMA3” is compared with its predecessor, “GMA3: What You Need to Know.” Starting with the 2025-2026 television season, Nielsen formally introduced an adjusted tracking method called Big Data + Panel, which the measurement service notes will “bring human insights to the numbers in big data sets.” In addition to the 101,000 real people from the 42,000 households already tracked by Nielsen (the Panel), the new tracking method encompasses approximately 45 million Big Data households and 75 million devices from Comcast, Dish, DIRECTV, Roku and Vizio. As a result, the 2024 column is based on Nielsen Panel-only data. Comparisons under the 2024 column, particularly Households and Total Viewers, were unavailable to this publication for most daytime broadcast shows, unlessed stated otherwise, until at least February 2025. ARTICLE: Casey Kasprzyk Promoted To Executive Producer Of ‘The Bold And The Beautiful’
Casey Kasprzyk, a 22-year veteran at “The Bold and the Beautiful,” has been promoted from supervising producer to executive producer of the long-running half-hour drama series, marking the first time a non-Bell family member has held the position. He joins Bradley Bell, who was named as the show’s executive producer in February 1996 after his parents, the late William J. Bell and the late Lee Phillip Bell, stepped down. “Twenty-two years ago, Casey Kasprzyk joined ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ at the front desk,” said Bell, who also serves as the show’s head writer, in an email sent to the show’s cast and crew announcing Kasprzyk’s promotion, according to Deadline, which first reported the news. “Since then, Casey has flourished in every level of production.” Kasprzyk began his career at the Bell-Phillip Television Productions-produced soap opera in 2003. By 2008, he was promoted to associate producer, and in 2014, to supervising producer. During his tenure, Kasprzyk has received 17 Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including four wins. In 2011, he shared in the show’s win for Outstanding Drama Series with the homeless storyline filmed in Los Angeles’ Skid Row. He won three of his Emmys for Outstanding Original Song, including 2015’s “Hands of Time,” 2016’s “Lost in Time,” and 2019’s “You’re the One.” Kasprzyk played a key role in producing the show’s 7000th episode, which aired in January 2015 and featured prominent moments from the show’s history up to that point, and the two-part documentary about the show, filmed in Monaco. In recent years, Kasprzyk had been overseeing outdoor shoots across several international locations, including Italy, Australia, France, the Netherlands, Mexico and Dubai, with Naples and Capri, Italy joining the list this year. He also helped relocate the show from Television City, where it had been for more than 38 years, to Sunset Las Palmas Studios. “Casey’s commitment and dedication to ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ has been extraordinary,” continued Bell. “Casey’s creative accomplishments are too vast to quantify, as he has continually elevated the show to new heights.” Outside of his day-to-day duties at “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Kasprzyk created, hosts, and produces “Bold Live,” the original YouTube talk show that lets fans interact with their favorite stars from the world’s most-watched daily soap. With Kasprzyk’s promotion, “The Bold and the Beautiful” joins “Days of our Lives” and “Beyond the Gates” as the only daytime dramas with more than one executive producer. Ken Corday is executive producer of “Days of our Lives,” with Noel Maxam as co-executive producer. Meanwhile, “Beyond the Gates” has eight executive producers, including series creator Michele Val Jean, Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thompson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld. “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless” are overseen by just one executive producer each, with Frank Valentini helming the former and Josh Griffith at the latter. ARTICLE: Rena Sofer Exits ‘General Hospital’ As Lois Cerullo
Although the door remains open for a future return to Port Charles, actress Rena Sofer has officially wrapped her two-year return stint on “General Hospital” as her character, Lois Cerullo, shared a goodbye moment with her daughter, Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) on the Friday, October 24 episode. According to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported Sofer’s departure from the show, a source told the outlet that Lois’s exit storyline, wherein her character leaves town to head to Seoul, South Korea, after accepting a position of tour manager for Blaze, was built by design to allow the actress to return to Port Charles when the time is right. First introduced in 1993, Lois had been a much-missed character from the canvas following Sofer’s departure as a contract cast member in 1996 – she returned for a brief stint in 1997. While the show eventually opted to recast the role with former “As The World Turns” star Lesli Kay (ex-Molly McKinnon) from 2004-2005, Sofer herself didn’t return to the part until 2023. At the time, she had announced plans to move to the East Coast and that her “General Hospital” return would mark one of her final acting jobs in Los Angeles. This summer, that plan came to fruition when she and her husband, Sanford Bookstaver, a director and producer of film and television, moved to New York full-time. ARTICLE: Daytime Emmys Broadcast TV Deal Fell Through (Exclusive)
Some fans looking to watch “The 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” last week were disappointed to learn that the telecast would be available exclusively as a streaming-only option, including via watch.theemmys.tv and its associated apps. It turns out there were ongoing conversations to have the ceremony air on one of the big three broadcast networks, but sadly, the potential deal fell through just weeks before daytime’s biggest night. According to sources, in early September, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the organization behind the Daytime Emmy Awards, was working with one of the broadcasters to give viewers at home the chance to see their favorite stars in front of the camera, and even behind the scenes, take home the daypart’s highest honor. Allegedly, however, the unidentified network requested certain guarantees, but in the end, those guarantees were not fulfilled in time for said broadcast deal to be finalized. As a result, NATAS went ahead with plans for a streaming-only telecast. Last year, CBS opted not to renew its broadcast agreement with NATAS after airing the awards show for a record 18th time. The deal ran from 2020-2024. Despite the lack of a broadcast partner this year, “The 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” aired without significant issues, aside from a few complaints about glitches during sign-in or account registration. “General Hospital” took home the most awards during last week’s broadcast, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, Writing for a Daytime Drama Series, Directing for a Daytime Drama Series and Costume Design/Styling. Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis), Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky Spencer) and Alley Mills (ex-Heather Webber) took home honors for acting. Watch our interview below with Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS, who talked about combining the ceremony with the Creative Arts Emmys, with this year’s telecast celebrating both on-air talent and those behind the scenes, something Alley Mills celebrated in her acceptance speech for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series for her role on “General Hospital.” Note: The post Daytime Emmys Broadcast TV Deal Fell Through (Exclusive) first appeared on Soap Opera Network. ARTICLE: NBC Lands Broadcast Network Rights To ‘Wicked’, Sets Premiere Ahead Of ‘Wicked: For Good’ Theatrical Release
Less than a year since the film’s record-shattering theatrical release, NBCUniversal announced on Thursday that NBC has landed the broadcast premiere rights to “Wicked,” the global phenomenon starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, which earned $756 million at the worldwide box office and achieved the highest domestic gross of any film since its release on November 22, 2024. “Wicked” premieres Wednesday, November 19 and will air from 8:00-11:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, just two days before the release of its highly anticipated sequel, “Wicked: For Good.” In addition to its box office success, “Wicked” is also the highest-grossing Broadway film adaptation of all time and, earlier this year, secured 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and acting for both Erivo and Grande, among others. The Jon M. Chu-directed film also stars Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, with Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum. The film won two Academy Awards for Best Achievement in Production Design and for Best Achievement in Costume Design. Releasing exclusively in theaters on Friday, November 21, “Wicked: For Good” is the epic finale that concludes the untold story of the witches of Oz, Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda (Grande), who have since become estranged and are living with the consequences of their choices from the first film. When a girl from Kansas crashes into their lives, they will need to come together one final time and truly see each other if they are to change themselves — and all of Oz — for good. Ahead of the broadcast premiere of “Wicked” on NBC, the network will also air the primetime special, “Wicked: One Wonderful Night,” on Thursday, November 6 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. The two-hour musical special, which will be available to stream next day on Peacock, stars Erivo and Grande and features electrifying performances by the two powerhouses alongside their “Wicked: For Good” co-stars — Yeoh, Goldblum, Slater, Yang and Bode — for an unforgettable night of reimagined musical arrangements, cast interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, exclusive surprises and even a sneak peek at what’s to come in the next chapter of Oz. Watch the official trailer for “Wicked” below. Watch the final trailer for “Wicked: For Good” below. “Wicked: For Good” is produced by Marc Platt and David Stone.
