  1. Honestly, I see what you mean. However, if ABC ever wants to get back in the soap game, we need a name writer/producer to get them to bring the message home. CBS gave Michele Val Jean a chance because she had the support of people like Vivica A. Fox, Shemar Moore, and, obviously, Sheila Ducksworth, with her running the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture. Eight seasons of Desperate Housewives carries weight at Disney/ABC with it spawning several iterations in other languages. I don't know any current daytime writer who would have the support that Michele had for Beyond the Gates that could get the suits to take another look at soaps. That can/will change, but after watching the Soapy episode with Marc, I think his passion for ABC's soaps could get them to reconsider, particularly with how poorly GMA3 is doing.
  2. They misread Deadline's article and have since made word changes to their original article:
  3. Also, the combined studio space is now 60,000 sq ft., up from 30,000 sq ft. while they were at TVC.
  4. Since this only seems to happen after someone makes a post, this is clearly an issue with the advertising. I'll reach out to our vendor to see if they spot any issues in the coding; otherwise, it'll be something we'll just have to deal with.
  5. According to Brad Bell, they will also soon be using Stage 6, which will house about 6 additional sets.
  6. New ARTICLE: Due to breaking news coverage on CBS on Ukraine peace talks, “The Bold and the Beautiful” was nationally preempted on Monday, August 18. As a result, the episode that was originally scheduled will now air on Tuesday, August 19, despite an earlier report from CBS affiliate WFMY, a Tegna-owned station, that the network had said it would air the episode during the overnight hours on “The network said the full episode will air tonight at 1:38 a.m., giving viewers an opportunity to catch the program in its entirety,” the station, based in Greensboro, North Carolina and serving the Piedmont Triad region, said on its website last night. Although that episode did not air in the United States, there are reports that it did air in other countries where the half-hour soap airs day and date with the U.S., including parts of Canada and Australia. In markets not impacted by the preemption, a repeat of Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn's (Tanner Novlan) 2021 wedding was aired. As for the brand new episode, now airing on Tuesday, August 19, look for Luna (Lisa Yamada) to go undetected at Will’s (Crew Morrow) promotion party and play Will against Electra (Laneya Grace). Meanwhile, Li (Naomi Matsuda) lets Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) know that Luna has given them the slip. 7. “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry is the next guest on “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart,” which was released on Tuesday. In an exclusive clip from episode seven of the audio/video podcast series, Cherry talks about his love of the soap opera genre while also explaining how each of his other projects, including “Devious Maids” and “Why Women Kill” came to be, including his earlier work as a half-hour comedy writer on “The Golden Girls,” and the one show he didn’t focus on women characters. “I have literally only had one show that wasn’t dominated by women, and it was my first job. It was a show called ‘Homeroom’ – ABC ran ten episodes before it was canceled – and it was about a guy teaching inner city school children, which I was perfect for, and the second job was ‘The Golden Girls,’” Cherry shared with “Soapy” hosts Rebecca Budig (“The Bold and the Beautiful,” “All My Children”) and Greg Rikaart (“The Young and the Restless,” “Days of our Lives”). “I was 27 years old, so it was a great job because if you’re on a show like that, and it was predominantly a male writing staff,” continued Cherry. “We had one lady, Gail Parent, who had done tons of stuff in the 70s, and so she was like an old pro, and all you needed to do to do the job was pay attention to what your mother, sister, wife [and] daughter was going through and all the guys would bring in their stories and if it was something about menopause Gail would bring that up.” Marc Cherry, Rebecca Budig, Greg Rikaart CBS “I learned on that show that writing for women is just paying attention and caring about things, and one of the things I’ve done in my career, on the second season of ‘Why Women Kill,’ we focused on a woman – a very meek, mild mannered woman – but she finds out her husband is a serial killer and that really came out of me watching one of the many movies about serial killers [where] the police are trying to catch this guy, and we find out he is married, and my thought is, ‘What is his wife going through?’ Cherry shared, recalling how his then CBS All Access (now Paramount+) original came up with storylines. “I think that’s where it starts, whenever I watch senators talking on TV shows. I’m like, ‘What is this like from the woman’s perspective? The wife who stays at home.’ Obviously, we have lady senators, but I’m fascinated by the small details that women pay attention to in life and how huge some of those small details can become, and it was out of that way of thinking that ‘Desperate Housewives’ was born,” Cherry furthered. “The joke was that it was supposed to be a comedy. I was trying to do a follow-up to ‘Sex and the City,’ because it’s like, ‘Okay, you’re spending all your time trying to land a man in Manhattan, what happens after you’ve landed him? You’ll move to the suburbs, but you won’t be as happy as you think you are.’ But I write really long, so I only introduced the characters and I was already to page 15, just introducing the characters, and I got a copy of the ‘Sex and the City’ pilot and it was like 31 pages and I went, ‘Yeah, I’m doing an hour long now. And now it’s a soap opera with comedy.’ That’s how great art is born.” Check out our exclusive clip from “Soapy” featuring Marc Cherry below. In addition to the evolution of his TV career, Cherry also notes his passion for ABC’s daytime soap lineup in a separate clip released by CBS, citing Judith Light’s role as Karen Wolek on “One Life to Live,” and the famous courtroom scene as one of his most memorable moments from watching the daypart. Check out what Cherry has to say about daytime soaps in the clip below. You can also watch the full episode below. Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, “Soapy” is the new audio and video podcast that dives deep into the legacy, fandom, and enduring appeal of soap operas. Available on Audacy or wherever podcasts are found, full video episodes are released every Tuesday through September 30 on the CBS brand YouTube channel. “We decided, since we knew each other so well, that we should interview all the people that we know, and people that we don’t know, in this genre,” said Budig in the first-ever episode of “Soapy,” explaining why she and Rikaart decided to do the podcast. Chiming in, Rikaart noted, the podcast was also a way to “celebrate our genre, coming from a place of love and reverence, and respect, for the incredibly challenging, hard and fun work that we get to do in daytime soaps.” Future episodes will include interviews with Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer, “The Bold and the Beautiful”), Eva LaRue (Natalia Ramirez, “General Hospital”), Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain, “General Hospital”), Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree, “Beyond the Gates”), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman, “The Young and the Restless”) and Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree, “Beyond the Gates”). Produced by the Paramount Multiplatform Production Group, “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” is executive produced by Mike Benson. Andrew Pemberton-Fowler serves as producer. 8. Due to breaking news coverage, CBS News preempted “The Bold and the Beautiful” nationally on Monday, August 18 during the show’s regular time slot of 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT. However, per CBS affiliate WFMY, a Tegna-owned station, the network has said it will air the show during the overnight hours on Tuesday, August 19. “The network said the full episode will air tonight at 1:38 a.m., giving viewers an opportunity to catch the program in its entirety,” the station, based in Greensboro, North Carolina and serving the Piedmont Triad region, said on its website. This would explain why Monday’s episode was not immediately uploaded to either CBS.com, the CBS App or Paramount+. In the episode, Luna (Lisa Yamada) goes undetected at Will’s (Crew Morrow) promotion party and plays Will against Electra (Laneya Grace). Meanwhile, Li (Naomi Matsuda) lets Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) know that Luna has given them the slip. 9. While rumors had been circulating for several weeks, on Monday it was formally announced that actor Ryan Paevey would be returning to “General Hospital,” where he appeared in the contract role of Nathan West from 2013-2018, though, at this time, it’s not known if he’ll reprise that role or if he’ll be playing a new character altogether. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Paevey begins taping this week at the show’s Prospect Studios set with his first air date set for some time in September, with the actor revealing that the stage was set for his return following a “surprise text” from executive producer Frank Valentini. “We talked a bit and he asked would I consider returning for awhile, talking story, floated different story ideas involving different time commitments of me, and I thought if we’re going to do this we should really do it and surprise the fans with a meaty storyline,” Paevey said to Deadline. “I was surprised by my excitement for a homecoming and reuniting with familiar faces after seven years. I still have my last call sheet from my final taping day on January 18, 2018, tacked up in my home office.” When last seen in Port Charles, Detective Nathan West was shot and killed in the line of duty. by his father, Cesar Faison, though with this being a soap, the character might have been alive and well all along considering Nathan’s sister, Britt Westbourne (played by Kelly Thiebaud) recently returned from the dead despite being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease and having a deadly toxin injected into her system just before her planned exit from Port Charles back in 2022 — she got scratched by The Hook serial killer’s weapon of choice. Since leaving “General Hospital,” Paevey has made a name for himself outside of daytime, playing memorable roles in several Hallmark Channel original movies, including “Under the Christmas Sky,” “Fourth Down and Love,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Coyote Creek Christmas,” “A Little Daytime Drama,” and most notably playing Donovan Darcy in “Unleashing Mr. Darcy” and “Marrying Mr. Darcy.” Other roles for Paevey include a guest appearance in the comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” the BET+ original “Games People Play,” and the original podcast series “Hearts of Stars.” In 2009, Paevey played Christina Aguilera‘s love interest in the music video for the song “Your Body.” He later appeared in “The Client List,” starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. 14. Tristan Rogers, the actor best known for his portrayal of Robert Scorpio on “General Hospital,” has died. He was just 79 years old. The late actor passed away this morning (Friday, August 15) after a battle with lung cancer, his longtime manager Meryl Soodak confirmed to ABC7 (KABC). Soodak further noted that Rogers had never been a smoker. “He loved being Scorpio and he created that role from nothing. He was supposed to work a day and he ended up making it into something huge,” said Soodak, who shared that his role on the daytime soap opera had “meant everything to him.” She added, “He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being and he loved his family.” In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), "General Hospital" executive producer Frank Valentini said, "The entire @GeneralHospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers' passing. Tristan has captivated our fans for more than 50 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio)." He added, "I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time. Tristan was a one-of-a-kind talent and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace." Last month, Rogers first revealed his cancer diagnosis, with a representative saying at the time, “Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years. This support means more to him now than ever.” Although he made himself in Hollywood for his work on “General Hospital,” it was his time playing Daniel “Doc” Smith on the digital series “Studio City” that netted him his first-ever Emmy nomination and win. He took home the award in 2020 for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Digital Drama Series. He was again nominated in 2021 for the same role, but this time in the retitled category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Daytime Fiction Program. Also in 2021, he received a nomination as a producer on “The Bay,” which was nominated for Outstanding Limited Drama Series. Rogers had his first credited acting role in the TV series “Delta” in 1969, and began making a name for himself in such shows as “The Link Men,” “The Box” and “The Sullivans” before ultimately landing the role of Robert Scorpio on “General Hospital” in 1980. The character reached icon status during that decade with his adventures involving Anna (Finola Hughes), Holly (Emma Samms), Luke (Anthony Geary), and Laura (Genie Francis). While he has appeared and departed from the daytime drama series several times, Rogers has remained a consistent fixture on the canvas, with his character learning in 2024 that he had a daughter with Holly, who turned out to be Sasha (Sofia Mattsson), who had already been residing in Port Charles, and made her the half-sister of Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough), Robert’s other daughter with Anna. The same day he announced his cancer diagnosis, Rogers made what would end up being his final appearance on the daytime drama series when Robert took in Sasha and her daughter, Daisy, who needed protection from a potential threat to their lives. Outside of “General Hospital,” Rogers has appeared in other daytime dramas, including “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bay,” and even “General Hospital” spinoff series “General Hospital: Night Shift.” On “The Young and the Restless,” Rogers portrayed the role of Colin Atkinson, opposite Genie Francis, who at the time played Genevieve Atkinson, Colin’s wife. While Colin was killed off in 2011, Genevieve remained in Genoa City through 2012. Rogers is survived by his wife, two children and a grandchild. 16. Although episodes of “Beyond the Gates” had been available to view as an On Demand option with only four episodes available at a time after a one week delay from originally being broadcast on CBS, Pluto TV, the FAST (free ad-supported television) service owned by Paramount, announced on Thursday that it has formally launched a dedicated channel for the daytime drama series which allows fans new and old to watch the soap opera live 24/7. The dedicated “Beyond the Gates” channel on Pluto TV features more than 90 episodes of the series at launch, with additional episodes joining the channel eight days after their CBS premiere. Meanwhile, the On Demand option to watch the four most recent episodes at any given time remains available. The series features the alluring tales of Gothic mystery and supernatural intrigue, as well as the iconic vampire Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid). 17. When a promo for “Beyond the Gates” was released last month featuring a crossover appearance by “The Young and the Restless” star Bryton James as his character from the long-running drama series, Devon Winters, fans were in a tizzy wondering when they’d get a chance to see the two-time Emmy award winner formally make his way to Fairmont Crest from Genoa City, at least for a limited time. Soap Opera Network is happy to report that James will appear in the Monday, August 11 episode of the Michele Val Jean-created daytime soap opera, where he’ll share scenes with “Beyond the Gates” stars Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree), Clifton Davis (Vernon Dupree) and Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree), among others. In the episode, look for Devon to have a mind-blowing proposition for Anita, who recently reunited with Sharon (Bonita Brisker) and Tracy (Maria Howell) to perform for the first time in decades as The Articulettes. The episode also features Dani extending an apology to Hayley (Marquita Goings), while Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) becomes emotional about all that he has lost. Meanwhile, Andre (Sean Freeman) lays his heart on the line. Ahead of the episode, Soap Opera Network has an exclusive first look at what’s to come with a promo that sees Vernon pondering whether music promoter Devon is offering Anita a recording contract, Jacob (Jibre Hordges) warning Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) to brace herself for what he’s about to tell her, and a jealous Hayley seeing Dani comforting Bill. Check out an exclusive promo featuring Bryton James on “Beyond the Gates” below. Additionally, check out photos from James’ appearance in the episode below. With James’ appearance, this marks the first-ever crossover to take place between “Beyond the Gates” and one of its CBS soap siblings, and confirms that the three daytime dramas (including “The Bold and the Beautiful”) exist in the same universe, something fans had long wondered since the early days of development for the new series.
