  1. WCVB, the Boston ABC affiliate owned by Hearst Television, has announced that beginning Monday, September 8, “General Hospital” will swap time slots with “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on the station. “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will move up one hour to 2:00 p.m. while “General Hospital” will move back to 3:00 p.m., leading into the station’s “NewsCenter” broadcast at 4:00 p.m. The Jennifer Hudson-hosted talk show is set to launch its fourth season on Monday, September 8. Meanwhile, the long-running daytime drama series, which is entering its 63rd season, returns to its former time slot where it had aired for decades until September 2012, when ABC ceded the time period to its local stations in the hopes of launching “Katie,” the since-canceled and ratings challenged talk show hosted by Katie Couric that ran for just two seasons and cost Disney $80 million to launch. With the time slot change, WCVB becomes the ninth ABC affiliate to return “General Hospital” to its long-held time slot of 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT, where it followed “One Life to Live,” which aired at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT, for decades before the latter soap was ultimately canceled, having aired its final episode in January 2012. In the months following the final episode of “One Life to Live,” ABC aired the short-lived reality-based program “The Revolution,” which was canceled due to low ratings and was quickly replaced by “Good Afternoon America,” which saw some improvement in the ratings, though not nearly enough to sustain itself. Ultimately, “General Hospital” proved to be the stronger program, with the network also canceling “Good Afternoon America,” and the soap opera moving to 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT nationwide after more than 25 years at 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT. In September 2014, seven of the eight ABC Owned Television Stations announced the switch back, including WABC in New York, KABC in Los Angeles, WLS in Chicago, WPVI in Philadelphia, KGO in San Francisco, KTRK in Houston, and WTVD in Raleigh-Durham. Meanwhile, KSAT in San Antonio was the sole non-ABC-owned station to make the switch at the time. WCVB had not cited a reason for the switch at press time. Meanwhile, on weekends, the station will air the program “CityLine” at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays, beginning Sunday, August 31, which will follow “NewsCenter 5 Weekend EyeOpener” at 10:00 a.m. and “On the Record” at 11:00 a.m. Encores of “CityLine” will air Saturday nights at 11:35 p.m. after the late news starting Saturday, August 30, while “On the Record” will re-air at midnight following Sunday night’s broadcast of “SportsCenter 5 OT.” Elsewhere, Hearst Media Productions Group’s “Ocean Mysteries” and “Vets Saving Pets” will air on Saturday and Sunday mornings starting Saturday, August 30. Boston is the ninth-largest television market in the United States according to Nielsen’s Designated Market Areas (DMAs) report. 2. The initial order was for 200 episodes. They'll still air 250 or so episodes each year, regardless, unless those preemptions we experienced this year become a regular thing.
  3. As the cast and crew of “Beyond the Gates” celebrated taping the show’s 200th episode this week, reports emerged online indicating that episodes from Season 1 of the daytime drama series would air through November, with Season 2 launching immediately afterward. That information is incorrect. Soap Opera Network has learned that new episodes from Season 1 of “Beyond the Gates” will continue to air through the end of 2025, and following a brief production hiatus, filming for Season 2 will commence in September with those episodes scheduled to air in 2026 – the soap opera is roughly four plus months ahead in terms of tape-to-air, and two plus months ahead script-to-tape. In May, CBS renewed the soap opera for a second season, with the network touting the show’s success and improving its time period by +48% among Total Viewers, according to Most Current and Season-to-Date ratings data released by Nielsen at the time. “To my #BeyondTheGates family: can you believe we shot episode 200 today?! I’m so grateful for every single one of you and I love you all with my whole heart,” said Michele Val Jean, the show's creator, showrunner, executive producer and head writer, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you for your talent, commitment and dedication. Here’s to the next 200.” Val Jean’s post was in response to an Instagram reel shared by cast member Ambyr Michelle (Eva Thomas) that was later re-shared by Lauren Buglioli (Vanessa McBride), among others, which shows the cast and crew celebrating their accomplishment with a party that took place at Assembly Studios, where the series is taped in Atlanta. Other cast members also shared behind-the-scenes videos and messages for the show’s fans, thanking them for their support. Brandon Claybon (Martin Richardson) on X: “Cheers to the 200th episode on #BeyondTheGates! Thank you!!” Sean Freeman (Andre Richardson) on Instagram: “Yooo! We did it!!! Andre Richardson has successfully completed the 1st 200 episodes one of BTG!! My 1st series regular role (main cast) on daytime television. Lord u have been so faithful & your grace has been sufficient. NOTE: We don’t have “seasons” in the soap world, but here’s to the next 200, and beyond! LFGOOO” Keith Robinson (Dr. Ted Richardson) on X: “Happy 200th Episode to the amazing cast and crew of Beyond the Gates”. . . .#beyondthegates Maurice P. Kerry (Randy Parker) on X: Happy 200th Episode from #BeyondtheGates. Thank you to the fans, followers, and BTG family. With love and appreciation, I’m looking forward to season 2 from #EyeCandyRandy On Thursday, August 21, Ambyr Michelle posted a message on Instagram, giving her personal perspective on wrapping her first season as a series regular on a television show, saying, “We officially made it to 200 episodes! God is sooo amazing!! Here’s to 2,000 more! And BEYOND that!!!” She added, “Although there’s no ‘wrapping’ in the Soap World — we’re honored to go into episode 201. Stay Tuned!!!” On Sunday, August 24, “Beyond the Gates” will officially mark its six-month anniversary since making its debut on CBS (February 24, 2025) and streaming on Paramount+. Recently, Pluto TV launched a dedicated “Beyond the Gates” channel, allowing fans to watch the series 24/7, with the latest episodes dropping eight days after their premiere on CBS. 4. Season 1 concludes with episodes airing through the end of 2025. The second season begins in 2026. Production has not officially wrapped yet on Season 1. Filming commences on Season 2 in September.
  5. CBS' core demographic for all of its shows is Adults 25-54, with the network selling the vast majority of its ads for its three soaps with an emphasis on Women 25-54 rather than Women 18-49, though it performs better than the other networks in the latter as well.
  6. Several daytime broadcast shows were preempted on Friday, August 15 due to breaking news coverage of U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meeting in Alaska to discuss a potential peace agreement over Ukraine. As a result, Nielsen reported breakouts in particular for “NBC News Daily” and “GMA3,” and a partial breakout for “General Hospital,” during the week of August 11-15, 2025. Overall, most daytime broadcast shows saw significant drops among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, likely due to lower than expected HUT (homes using television) levels, at least among the key sales demographics and particularly on Thursday, August 14, 2025, which was the lowest rated day of the week for three of the four network soap operas — Wednesday, August 13, 2025 was the lowest-rated day of the week for “General Hospital.” For the week, repeats of “The Price is Right” remained on top among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, led by the second half-hour with its 0.32 rating in the former and its 0.48 rating in the latter. “TODAY 3rd Hour” again took third place in Women 18-49 (0.23 rating) with “The Young and the Restless” taking the same spot in Women 25-54 (0.38 rating). Compared to the same week last year, every daytime broadcast show saw significant declines demographically with “The Bold and the Beautiful” dropping the most among Women 18-49, down -0.11 (0.17 rating vs. 0.28 rating), and “NBC News Daily” dropping the most among Women 25-54, also down -0.11 (0.16 rating vs. 0.27 rating). “The Bold and the Beautiful” tied its season low among Women 25-54 (0.34 rating) and set a new low among Women 18-49 (0.17 rating). “The Young and the Restless” set a new low among Women 25-54 (0.38 rating) and recorded its second-lowest performance of the season among Women 18-49 (0.21 rating). “Beyond the Gates” set a new low among Women 18-49 (0.16 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.28 rating) while “General Hospital” tied its series low among Women 18-49 (0.16 rating). The long-running ABC soap remained on par with its week ago performance among Women 25-54 (0.29 rating). “GMA3” was the only daytime broadcast show to see week-to-week gains, up +0.02 among Women 18-49 (0.13 rating vs. 0.11 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.19 rating vs. 0.17 rating). Meanwhile, “NBC News Daily” set a new low among Women 18-49 (0.10 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.16 rating). Among Total Viewers, “The Young and the Restless” (2.959 million) was the only daytime broadcast show to see year-over-year growth, adding +58,000 more viewers compared to the same week last year (2.959 million vs. 2.901 million). On the opposite side, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.442 million) and “General Hospital” (1.794 million) saw the largest week-to-week and year-over-year drops, down -197,000 and 189,000, respectively, for the former, and down -198,000 and -170,000, respectively, for the latter. Note: HUT is a term that refers to the total number of homes using their television sets during a given period, with the tracking service expressing HUT as a percentage of the population or a number representing the thousands of homes viewing television. Wrap-Up What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of August 11-15, 2025 among Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, including week-to-week and year-over-year performance comparisons. Note*: Figures under the 2024 column for “Beyond the Gates” are compared to the performance of the former time slot occupant, “The Talk,” which aired amended repeats during the comparable week last year. “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” is compared with the performance of its predecessor, “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna.” Meanwhile, “GMA3” is compared with the performance of its predecessor, “GMA3: What You Need to Know.” With the game show airing amended repeats, demos for “Let’s Make a Deal” were not available. The show also aired amended repeats during the same week last year. “The Price is Right” also aired amended repeats during the comparable week last year, resulting in Households and Total Viewers not being available. Households and Total Viewers for “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” were unavailable at press time. 7. Honestly, I see what you mean. However, if ABC ever wants to get back in the soap game, we need a name writer/producer to get them to bring the message home. CBS gave Michele Val Jean a chance because she had the support of people like Vivica A. Fox, Shemar Moore, and, obviously, Sheila Ducksworth, with her running the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture. Eight seasons of Desperate Housewives carries weight at Disney/ABC with it spawning several iterations in other languages. I don't know any current daytime writer who would have the support that Michele had for Beyond the Gates that could get the suits to take another look at soaps. That can/will change, but after watching the Soapy episode with Marc, I think his passion for ABC's soaps could get them to reconsider, particularly with how poorly GMA3 is doing.
  8. They misread Deadline's article and have since made word changes to their original article:
  9. Also, the combined studio space is now 60,000 sq ft., up from 30,000 sq ft. while they were at TVC.
  10. Since this only seems to happen after someone makes a post, this is clearly an issue with the advertising. I'll reach out to our vendor to see if they spot any issues in the coding; otherwise, it'll be something we'll just have to deal with.
  11. According to Brad Bell, they will also soon be using Stage 6, which will house about 6 additional sets.
  12. New ARTICLE: Due to breaking news coverage on CBS on Ukraine peace talks, “The Bold and the Beautiful” was nationally preempted on Monday, August 18. As a result, the episode that was originally scheduled will now air on Tuesday, August 19, despite an earlier report from CBS affiliate WFMY, a Tegna-owned station, that the network had said it would air the episode during the overnight hours on “The network said the full episode will air tonight at 1:38 a.m., giving viewers an opportunity to catch the program in its entirety,” the station, based in Greensboro, North Carolina and serving the Piedmont Triad region, said on its website last night. Although that episode did not air in the United States, there are reports that it did air in other countries where the half-hour soap airs day and date with the U.S., including parts of Canada and Australia. In markets not impacted by the preemption, a repeat of Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn's (Tanner Novlan) 2021 wedding was aired. As for the brand new episode, now airing on Tuesday, August 19, look for Luna (Lisa Yamada) to go undetected at Will’s (Crew Morrow) promotion party and play Will against Electra (Laneya Grace). Meanwhile, Li (Naomi Matsuda) lets Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) know that Luna has given them the slip. 13. “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry is the next guest on “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart,” which was released on Tuesday. In an exclusive clip from episode seven of the audio/video podcast series, Cherry talks about his love of the soap opera genre while also explaining how each of his other projects, including “Devious Maids” and “Why Women Kill” came to be, including his earlier work as a half-hour comedy writer on “The Golden Girls,” and the one show he didn’t focus on women characters. “I have literally only had one show that wasn’t dominated by women, and it was my first job. It was a show called ‘Homeroom’ – ABC ran ten episodes before it was canceled – and it was about a guy teaching inner city school children, which I was perfect for, and the second job was ‘The Golden Girls,’” Cherry shared with “Soapy” hosts Rebecca Budig (“The Bold and the Beautiful,” “All My Children”) and Greg Rikaart (“The Young and the Restless,” “Days of our Lives”). “I was 27 years old, so it was a great job because if you’re on a show like that, and it was predominantly a male writing staff,” continued Cherry. “We had one lady, Gail Parent, who had done tons of stuff in the 70s, and so she was like an old pro, and all you needed to do to do the job was pay attention to what your mother, sister, wife [and] daughter was going through and all the guys would bring in their stories and if it was something about menopause Gail would bring that up.” Marc Cherry, Rebecca Budig, Greg Rikaart CBS “I learned on that show that writing for women is just paying attention and caring about things, and one of the things I’ve done in my career, on the second season of ‘Why Women Kill,’ we focused on a woman – a very meek, mild mannered woman – but she finds out her husband is a serial killer and that really came out of me watching one of the many movies about serial killers [where] the police are trying to catch this guy, and we find out he is married, and my thought is, ‘What is his wife going through?’ Cherry shared, recalling how his then CBS All Access (now Paramount+) original came up with storylines. “I think that’s where it starts, whenever I watch senators talking on TV shows. I’m like, ‘What is this like from the woman’s perspective? The wife who stays at home.’ Obviously, we have lady senators, but I’m fascinated by the small details that women pay attention to in life and how huge some of those small details can become, and it was out of that way of thinking that ‘Desperate Housewives’ was born,” Cherry furthered. “The joke was that it was supposed to be a comedy. I was trying to do a follow-up to ‘Sex and the City,’ because it’s like, ‘Okay, you’re spending all your time trying to land a man in Manhattan, what happens after you’ve landed him? You’ll move to the suburbs, but you won’t be as happy as you think you are.’ But I write really long, so I only introduced the characters and I was already to page 15, just introducing the characters, and I got a copy of the ‘Sex and the City’ pilot and it was like 31 pages and I went, ‘Yeah, I’m doing an hour long now. And now it’s a soap opera with comedy.’ That’s how great art is born.” Check out our exclusive clip from “Soapy” featuring Marc Cherry below. In addition to the evolution of his TV career, Cherry also notes his passion for ABC’s daytime soap lineup in a separate clip released by CBS, citing Judith Light’s role as Karen Wolek on “One Life to Live,” and the famous courtroom scene as one of his most memorable moments from watching the daypart. Check out what Cherry has to say about daytime soaps in the clip below. You can also watch the full episode below. Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, “Soapy” is the new audio and video podcast that dives deep into the legacy, fandom, and enduring appeal of soap operas. Available on Audacy or wherever podcasts are found, full video episodes are released every Tuesday through September 30 on the CBS brand YouTube channel. “We decided, since we knew each other so well, that we should interview all the people that we know, and people that we don’t know, in this genre,” said Budig in the first-ever episode of “Soapy,” explaining why she and Rikaart decided to do the podcast. Chiming in, Rikaart noted, the podcast was also a way to “celebrate our genre, coming from a place of love and reverence, and respect, for the incredibly challenging, hard and fun work that we get to do in daytime soaps.” Future episodes will include interviews with Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer, “The Bold and the Beautiful”), Eva LaRue (Natalia Ramirez, “General Hospital”), Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain, “General Hospital”), Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree, “Beyond the Gates”), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman, “The Young and the Restless”) and Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree, “Beyond the Gates”). Produced by the Paramount Multiplatform Production Group, “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” is executive produced by Mike Benson. Andrew Pemberton-Fowler serves as producer. 14. Due to breaking news coverage, CBS News preempted “The Bold and the Beautiful” nationally on Monday, August 18 during the show’s regular time slot of 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT. However, per CBS affiliate WFMY, a Tegna-owned station, the network has said it will air the show during the overnight hours on Tuesday, August 19. “The network said the full episode will air tonight at 1:38 a.m., giving viewers an opportunity to catch the program in its entirety,” the station, based in Greensboro, North Carolina and serving the Piedmont Triad region, said on its website. This would explain why Monday’s episode was not immediately uploaded to either CBS.com, the CBS App or Paramount+. In the episode, Luna (Lisa Yamada) goes undetected at Will’s (Crew Morrow) promotion party and plays Will against Electra (Laneya Grace). Meanwhile, Li (Naomi Matsuda) lets Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) know that Luna has given them the slip. 15. While rumors had been circulating for several weeks, on Monday it was formally announced that actor Ryan Paevey would be returning to “General Hospital,” where he appeared in the contract role of Nathan West from 2013-2018, though, at this time, it’s not known if he’ll reprise that role or if he’ll be playing a new character altogether. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Paevey begins taping this week at the show’s Prospect Studios set with his first air date set for some time in September, with the actor revealing that the stage was set for his return following a “surprise text” from executive producer Frank Valentini. “We talked a bit and he asked would I consider returning for awhile, talking story, floated different story ideas involving different time commitments of me, and I thought if we’re going to do this we should really do it and surprise the fans with a meaty storyline,” Paevey said to Deadline. “I was surprised by my excitement for a homecoming and reuniting with familiar faces after seven years. I still have my last call sheet from my final taping day on January 18, 2018, tacked up in my home office.” When last seen in Port Charles, Detective Nathan West was shot and killed in the line of duty. by his father, Cesar Faison, though with this being a soap, the character might have been alive and well all along considering Nathan’s sister, Britt Westbourne (played by Kelly Thiebaud) recently returned from the dead despite being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease and having a deadly toxin injected into her system just before her planned exit from Port Charles back in 2022 — she got scratched by The Hook serial killer’s weapon of choice. Since leaving “General Hospital,” Paevey has made a name for himself outside of daytime, playing memorable roles in several Hallmark Channel original movies, including “Under the Christmas Sky,” “Fourth Down and Love,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Coyote Creek Christmas,” “A Little Daytime Drama,” and most notably playing Donovan Darcy in “Unleashing Mr. Darcy” and “Marrying Mr. Darcy.” Other roles for Paevey include a guest appearance in the comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” the BET+ original “Games People Play,” and the original podcast series “Hearts of Stars.” In 2009, Paevey played Christina Aguilera‘s love interest in the music video for the song “Your Body.” He later appeared in “The Client List,” starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.
