“Beyond the Gates” was named one of the best TV shows of 2025 so far by Entertainment Weekly, the outlet announced this week. The CBS daytime drama series was one of just eight shows recognized, including “Severance” (Apple TV+), “Forever” (Netflix), “Matlock” (CBS), "The Gilded Age” (HBO), “Abbott Elementary” (ABC), “Dept. Q” (Netflix) and “The Pitt” (HBO Max). In touting the series, Entertainment Weekly said, “Soap operas do the impossible. Working with a fraction of the budget primetime series get, soaps crank out 260 episodes of non-stop story a year. For those of us who grew up loving these shows, watching the networks slowly abandon the genre over the past decade has been painful. What a joy, then, to witness the birth of ‘Beyond the Gates,’ the first new daytime drama since 1999.” The outlet further noted, “ It’s impossible to summarize everything that’s happened in the 80 episodes (!) since ‘Gates’ premiered in February, but the soapiest highlights include: a love child revealed in spectacular fashion, and a marriage ruined! A steamy (and top-secret) May-December romance between a former supermodel and a playboy photographer! A promising young politician haunted by a violent incident from his past! As expected, Tracey Thomson has been named co-head writer of “Beyond the Gates” following the exit of Robert Guza Jr. (“General Hospital,” “Sunset Beach”). First reported by Soap Opera Network last month, Guza exited the daytime drama series as an executive producer and co-head writer after fulfilling the terms of his contract. Thomson was named his successor as an executive producer, one of eight, after her name was inadvertently revealed in a press release by CBS announcing that the show had been renewed for a second season. In her role as co-head writer, Thomson works alongside series creator and head writer Michele Val Jean in crafting the show’s long-term story. Thomson has an extensive career in daytime that includes writing episodes of “General Hospital” and its spinoff, “General Hospital: Night Shift.” She also has substantial experience as co-head writer or associate head writer at “The Young and the Restless” and has written numerous scripts during a two-year stint at “All My Children.” Outside of daytime, Thomson created the live-action, time-travel mystery series “Secrets of Sulphur Springs,” which ran for three seasons at Disney Channel. She also served as an executive producer on the series. With Thomson now included, executive producers for “Beyond the Gates” include Michele Val Jean, who also serves as showrunner, Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, Julie Carruthers (“All My Children,” “Port Charles”), Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld. The writing team includes includes Susan Dansby (“The Young and the Restless”) as script editor and breakdown writers Ron Carlivati (“One Life to Live,” “Days of our Lives”), Sara A. Bibel (“The Young and the Restless”), Christopher Dunn (“Santa Barbara,” “All My Children”), Jamey Giddens ("Days of our Lives," "Ambitions") and Teresa Zimmerman (“The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful”). Script writers include Judy Tate (“Another World,” “As The World Turns”), Danielle Paige (“Days of our Lives,” “Guiding Light”), Jazmen Darnell Brown (“Ambitions,” “Saints and Sinners”), Cheryl L. Davis (“As The World Turns,” “Days of our Lives”) and Lynn Martin (“The City,” “The Young and the Restless”). Gregori J. Martin, who had been a breakdown writer since the series launched, has exited, putting his focus on the tenth season of the soap opera "The Bay," which he created and executive produces. Jamey Giddens has replaced Martin as a breakdown writer at "Beyond the Gates." Episodes featuring Thomson’s name as both executive producer and co-head writer are slated to air later this summer.

I'm sorry. What? I fail to see how the network airing reruns next week is considered a spoiler. As I said, I only specified what I was talking about earlier because people were coming up with outlandish scenarios and I wanted to nip it in the bud quickly. Had that not been the case, there would have been a thread/article posted to the message boards. GH airing reruns is a contractual thing ABC started in 2009 as part of a deal with the WGA to help reduce costs for All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital. An entire week of reruns for any soap is unprecedented, outside of matters that can't be controlled, such as Covid.

Nothing solid, but I believe BTG is under a different contract somehow since Y&R/B&B only allow 2 weeks of episodes at any given time while airing originals on major holidays. Meanwhile, BTG has so far aired a rerun on its first major holiday, not factoring sports preemptions, and has all episodes available to watch on streaming thus far since its debut in February. To be clear, yes, I know CBS owns the show. Doesn't change that Y&R/B&B and GH at ABC are the only network soaps with two weeks of episodes available at any given time to stream. DAYS just has the current year's worth of episodes with one episode falling off the list each day new episode premieres.

Collectively agreed it had to be due to the Juneteenth holiday. No other reason makes sense since nothing outstanding was expected to happen on the day. Plus, Friday was its second-best day of the week, so maybe whoever didn't usually tune in liked what they saw?

Waiting to hear more on the "why" of it all, hence why I said y'all would learn the news tomorrow. That said, I doubt I'll hear anything back as I've been questioning the PR strategy for a while now.

Y'all are doing what I usually do. Overthinking. I'll just go ahead and say it. The show will be airing a week of repeats next week, so tomorrow will be your last original episode for June to discuss.

It's unlikely they give a crap about the character. Unless the character is on contract, I don't see why they even need to find money in the budget to pay a day player for a character they haven't given any real attention to, regardless of who the head writer or executive producer is in charge.
